When i watch people i get a tingly sensation in my head?!?

Ok basically i was watching the video on youtube and it was about unwrapping this package my friend got (no im not saying what the package was) and well I'm not sure how to describe it really its hard to explain but at the back of my head I sort of get this internal massage but its a really nice feeling and it sort of make me go numb so if im typing I lose feeling in my fingers its weird but its REALLY soothing and calming I sorta dont want thew moment to end HELP!

Is it normal? and If its a medical thing or something please tell me what it is thanks!

i joined for the same reason too. I get this feeling a lot. i guess because i look for what seems to trigger it because i like it so much. NO this is not a friggin tumor! it happens sometimes when im in a decent mood and i watch somebody concentrating on something or creating something. It happens to me nearly everytime i
    1. get my hair cut (happens everytime and feels intense)
    2. Watch somebody draw a picture (almost all the time)
    3. watch somebody writing (sometimes)
    4. listen to someone speak (happened once)

i may sound like a weirdo but its only because its so strange and everyone ive ever told about it has never felt it. this shit is weird!

holy crap. eddyydde this is exactly what has been happening to me ever since i was a kid. i also have experienced: the barber chair (every time), the drawing (this was actually the first time it happened to me when i was 3 or 4 in pre kindergarten), the writing (well actually when somebody is learning how to do something that i have already done). this is crazy because you have the same exact symptoms that i had. my symptoms have developed over the years. i feel different tingling in my head in different cases. i think that i have even met some people who know that i can sense it. if you ever read this post, email me back. i'm all over the internet if this forum doesn't work. its good to know that somebody else has had my same exact symptoms though

        hi illathruz.

i just typed into my google box nice feeling in head because i experience this too.i didnt expect to find anything coz i thought i was the only person on the entire planet that had this.i have never told anyone about this because i knew what there reaction would be.when i stumbled accross this website i was stunned that so many other people experience this.my earliest memory of this was at 17 years old. (it might have happened before this-cant remember)i was sitting in the bookies studying the greyhound form and someone sat next to me and was also looking at the form and the nice feeling happened.i just thought to myself whats that all about.the next time it happened was when i was drawing pictures with my nephew and he began to draw and wow the same feeling.he stopped drawing and i can remember saying to him draw some more son your really good lol.he was actually rubbish.haha. i am 37 now and get the feeling now and again.i get it when other people are concentrating or working or moving around me.i got it the other day when i was looking for kitchen stools on my laptop for my mum and she was looking at the screen as well.its a very bizarre feeling but wish i could bottle it because i would never leave the house.lol.

If heroine made me feel like this I would tie off right now. Amazing feeling that I can only describe as the physiological manifestation of curiosity+wonder. I bought a dandruff shampoo because it advertised that it made your scalp tingle. Didn't work. And I don't have dandruff.

I have often thought the same thing about my tingles. I wish I could figure out a way to make it happen on demand. I usually get it when a telemarketer calls me. USUALLY, sometimes I do not get it. Sometimes I get it when someone touches my hair but other times I don't. I wonder if it has something to do with the energy that is given off by the trigger of the feelings. It is the absolute best feeling in the world.

It’s ASMR. It’s amazing. I get it when watching someone look at items in my boutique, or putting on make up. I get it when I listen to Bob Ross while he paints.

Wow. Thoroughly overwhelmed that others get this too; I genuinely thought I was the only person in the world!

It seems to me that everybody gets similar euphoric tingling in their head and this is also brought about by similar triggers (mainly empathy). Personally I have always got it when somebody is 'doing something for me or my benefit', which in turn by default means they are also concentrating on that thing. For instance it seems the majority of people get it when:
    -at the doctors / dentist
    -getting their hair cut/played with
    - watching tutorials or listening to somebody explaining how to do something
    - Listening to a teacher / lecturer speak and write on the board

Similar to other posters, it helps when Im on my own and really concentrate on the feeling and make it stronger and stronger.
I adore this feeling, and almost every night find videos of walkthroughs / explanations of things to get it.

I am a biology student, and am surprised that this condition is not recognised by the scientific community. I might make it my life's work to research and define it!

I get this too, I've had it ever since I can remember, I never knew what it was and tried hard to find out. It's a great feeling, It's like my brain just pours endorphins out on in mass quantity. I get it from watching tutorials on how to do something. I get it when someone is personally showing me something.

Had to sign up to respond.

I've never seen so many people that understand this.

Basically, anytime I watch a video or in real life of someone that is focused and intent on doing something, and not distracted, I experience it.

It's almost like you are sharing the experience of what they are doing with them, and somehow that produces synchornicty or vibration (even if it's not them, just a video).

It's like they are playing the C-note on piano and you set your body to resonate at C, and as they go about their business, the sound of them playing vibrates you.

Common causes of face / head / neck tingles:

    1) Shared experience
    2) Watching people show you something when they and you are very focused and concentrating (but not necessarily intense, could be light hearted)
    3) Watching videos of people do tasks. For example, sometimes the music-sequences of people dusting things off in CSI for prints, or someone unboxing a new gadget, or someone showing you a collection of things and explaining.
    4) Scientific videos of inventions or things people have built. I may be completely uninterested in the content, but will watch for the feeling.
    5) Like others, sometimes mine come from hearing minute sounds involved in the task combined with the focus on the topic at hand. It's really, really hard to explain.

Sometimes mine last for tens of seconds, sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes much longer.

I usually also try not to move or disrupt the process, sort of focusing on maintaining the state and/or pumping it up if I can.

For videos, it helps if I'm alone and in private. In real life, it helps if it is just one other person, and you're loose and free, without inhibition.

As others mentioned, it's not really a sexual thing. It's like if someone comes up behind you and drags a pencil on the back of your neck toward your hair and you shiver, except it goes on for a long time and has to do with someone doing something (cutting your hair, showing you something, teaching you something).

Strangest thing I experience regularly that not many people seem to have.

I'd like to think--as all matter is vibrating energy--that it has something to do with a fundamental aspect of humanity or consciousness... that if you have the right frame of mind, your energy is in a particular state, that it can be resonated by other stimuli, like hitting a tuning fork. The hit may mean nothing, but the common theme of people teaching, inventing, or helping seems to make me wonder if that's not there for a reason...

I am so glad and interested to participate in a forum on this subject, which on a whim I decided to search about. Its almost as if I forget this delightful sensation exists until it happens by surprise...Today I was shopping and the lady at the dressing room caused this sensation when she spoke, and it was so pleasant! Haha I often worry that I must make some sort of face, that my eyelids must look heavy and dreamy with euphoria at the sensation.

This particular paragraph I think lays the bricks for a very enlightening conversation on this sensation, because it is so delightful, so rare, that I do feel as if it is some spiritual gift to pick up on these vibrations:

"I'd like to think--as all matter is vibrating energy--that it has something to do with a fundamental aspect of humanity or consciousness... that if you have the right frame of mind, your energy is in a particular state, that it can be resonated by other stimuli, like hitting a tuning fork. The hit may mean nothing, but the common theme of people teaching, inventing, or helping seems to make me wonder if that's not there for a reason..."

On one forum I found, someone mentions that watching Bob Ross painting videos causes the sensation...It does!!! It is nice to have a causable constant source of these sensations, hehe it almost feels deviant to purposefully seek it out. But anyways, (using Bob Ross as an example if you want to induce the sensation to explore the causes further) I have often wondered if perhaps the people that cause this sensation are angels?

The sensation is so often caused by people who seem humble, simple, genteel and quite delightful in their tranquility. I have had professors, yoga instructors, museum guides, and random employees of stores I visit cause this, so I very much like that you bring up the "common theme of people teaching, inventing, or helping".

Thus, I would like to ask some questions to others, things that I find may or may not connect to this phenomenon. Sorry if it is a bit too spiritual, but I think this sensation is too rare and delightful to be entirely hmmm...scientific? Then again, people do ask some very interesting scientific questions in their posts about sexuality and the fact that the sensation is caused by both males and females. However, I do not seem to be sexually attracted to the people causing this, it is almost as if I feel like I am a child again and would like to lie back and be read to or have my head scratched.

Are we who experience this sensation inherently students? It has this paralyzing affect on us, like we want to sit back and just keep listening, what professions/hobbies do the people on this forum have? I love school, adore learning in higher academia, and I extremely value my quiet time, though I tend to be pretty loud and the center of attention type. The people who cause me to get the chills though seem to be so calm and nurturing...

What zodiac sign are people on this forum? I am a Pisces, and Pisces tend to be considered more spiritual of the zodiac signs, and if you are into chakras and centers of energy and vibrations, Pisces tend to be more "aware". I have wondered if this susceptibility to energies, this heightened third eye, is why I experience this sensation.

Please answer!! I am dying to know more about this!!!

Happens to me too. I’ve never really paid attention to it until I came across this posting randomly. Then realized, holy crap, that happens to me…Sometimes I feel like I can control it, but other times I feel like I can’t. I don’t remember the first time I felt it or many occasions if/when I felt it as a child. I forget a lot, so not surprising. Some things that set it off:
-Someone playing with my hair, more specifically, running their fingers through my hair where the tips of their fingers gently drag across the scalp. The most effective area is the center of the front hairline running back to the top, center of the head.
-Helping someone / Teaching someone (more common)
-Helped by someone / Taught by someone (less common, but I think only out of guilt that someone did something for me). Mostly random acts of kindness though.
-Getting a haircut/The sound of hair getting cut
-The sound of scissors cutting. Especially fabric, but rope, hair, paper etc. do it too.
-Watching anyone doing something very methodically. Someone who has perfected whatever they are doing down to where there are no wasted movements or energy and everything is very precise and deliberate in their actions. Almost so much so that their actions seem soft or gently done.
-Certain types of music, a lot being electronic, but also some traditional Asian music and native American drum/flute music (as previously mentioned).
-The sound of pen across paper. Mostly ink or ball point, but also pencil and marker.
-When someone is speaking, the sounds that occur below the level of their voice itself. The accidental and uncontrollable sounds their mouth makes when they talk. Breathing, teeth touching, tongue moving etc.
-Quote from above, same for me: “It's always a pleasant surprise, but it's as if that person is making a special connection with me or I realize I have some kind of insight with that person.”
    -Moments of serious truth.

Connections to others? I am/was an artist. Spent most of my childhood drawing, painting etc. Also would consider myself more empathetic than most. I am nowhere near perfect, but realize this. Animal lover for the most part. Cynical about humans…or at least the way modern society forces humans to live these days. Also, while reading many of the above posts and the descriptions, I felt a tingle several times just reading the words you wrote and your description.

This is an amazing thread. I've thought about this sensation for many years and must agree that it is incredibly pleasurable and that the triggers are bizarre. The "whispering" videos on Youtube generate the sensation for me too. I've found that "unboxing" videos do also (look up the Dungeons and Dragons: Dungeons Master's Guide on Amazon.com and watch the uploaded fan video).

Voices that have accents or impediments, especially those that seem "childish"/immature in some way are near guarantees.

I've always theorized this has something to do with empathy, especially empathy that has a complex factor of self-projection. I too am an animal lover. I also (despite wanting to come across differently) have an intense very deep seated desire to be liked and "get along" with everyone. I don't seem to get the feeling with people I know well and I suspect that is because I already feel liked and accepted by them.

Something else I've related to this tingling sensation is a strange emotional reaction I have sometimes that is overwhelming. When I have a conversation with someone, especially someone who is an authority or who I normally get along with, but I am expecting the conversation to go poorly, or I'm anxious about it, and then it goes off REALLY WELL (they agree immediately or exceed my expectations, or respond selflessly toward me): I always feel intese emotions welling up that bring tears into my eyes. It's hard to explain, but it's always seemed related.

I was really happy to find this page too - I used to google all sorts of things to try and see if anyone else felt this way! I get it most when someone near me is concentrating on something and has kinda forgotten I'm there. The best time was at school when we had to draw each other and my friend sat drawing me for half an hour, she was concentrating more on her picture than me and it was really nice. I also get the whole hair thing!

Same as all you guys. My whole life I LONGED for this sensation. I did not know so many people experienced it! We should form a political party or something. The "tingling brain" party. My mother always thought I was nuts.

-Watching people focus on something (i.e. writing examples on a board in class and mumbling quietly to themselves)

-TUTORIALS on youtube, my Lord this works!(i.e. doing nails, drawing, measuring something)

-People asking me questions from a survey and their response "mm hmm" UGGHHHHHHHHH soooo goood!

    -Haircut

-Pretty much everything you guys have said, wow.

We should post some videos for one another that give us this sensation. I think that would be considerate.

This is pathetic but I just got WAY too excited that I found this site, you have no idea. I've been trying to find an explanation or someone else that experiences this my whole life. This is a great day in the history of me...of us.

Like another poster said "I just can't fucking explain it!" Perfect description.

Sooo weird... this happens to me too... ever since I was a little kid... It happens to me a lot when I'm babysitting and one of the kids shows me how to do something or if I watch them color. Especially if they are making the picture, or whatever, for me. I always wondered what was the cause of this and I was never able to explain it to anyone else.
I am also an artist... I went to school for Fine Arts but now I am in nursing school...
I feel like it has a lot to do with being empathic/creative in some way...

I also get this feeling and I've gotten pretty good at reproducing it. I get it most when people talk to me. It's sort of weird and it only happens with a few people, usually those where I can hear breathing or licking of the lips. It's not sexual in any way to me, it's just a very pleasant and intense sensation. I used to get it all the time when people would play with my hair. When I want that buzzing sensation, I think about all the things that brought the feeling on and I get it. It IS very much like a relaxing brain massage. Afterward, I'm calm and relaxed. It's really amazing. I'm also thinking that it has to do with endorphins. It's as good, if not better, than meditation. :)

As an evolutionary anthropologist (and someone who has experienced this wonderful tingly feeling many times before) I have a possible evolutionary framework. Having spoken about the sensation with friends and read comments here I see there is a connection between the sensation and sharing/helping/learning from strangers. I have even labeled the sensation 'the kindness of strangers feeling' when talking with others. Looking at our closest living relatives (apes and chimpanzee) I believe this sensation may have evolved to aid social cohesion and also to aid learning of tool-use. As hypersocial animals it would make sense that situations where we learn new skills and create new social ties with others should be reinforced.

i think your on to something here.my suspicion is that it is tied to the mirror neuron system that is at the center of immediate shared neurochemical brain activity.the mirror system as i understand it has delicate associations with such attributes as,empathy, vicarious feeling and trust.i think the common thread or narrative in most of these, centers around the cluster of shared experience.example:concentration, tutorial learning, expositoy learning etc.it could be a vestige of the reward mechanism inherent in mirror neurons,or a burst of oxytocin released into the bloodstream.this stuff is pretty far out there, yet it looks like the case history is consistent.

I started a Facebook group for this exact sensation - it's called 'Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response Group'. AKA ASMR - we've split the sensations into two groups in discussion: type A is a controlled experience (one you can illicit without outside influence), and type B is triggered externally (seeing, hearing, feeling something that causes it without you intending it to happen). There are a lot of us out there! Join up, add your experiences, get support from others who 'get it', for once, and help us compile stats as we work to build a case for clinical research. Don't be alone, and don't let people tell you you're weird, crazy, lice-infested, on drugs, overly-imaginative, having seizures, etc.! It's quantifiable, shared amongst many of us, and something worth enjoying for what it is. :)

Actually over the phone stuff is one of those times it is actually a lot stronger. And since I posted my first post I've been thinking and...I do not think I have ever gotten this sensation from anything my husband has done...what in the world does THAT mean? lol

Wow what IS this?? I started a profile as soon as I discovered IIN a few days ago JUST so I could submit a story (Is it normal to have incredibly pleasurable sensations in my head?) about this very same thing and all of the comments on here are just reminding me of all the things that trigger it.

But yea I would have to agree with you mmmmatt that stuff on a tv or computer screen does not trigger it for me. Also I'd have to say that when someone is focused, but actually focused at a screen, I'll miss out on it...like their brain doesn't emit the same energy at a screen as it does any other time...or that the tv/computer is somehow getting it instead of me.
I just started thinking about this now but I also suspect that there is an age or level of brain activity that is not yet developed enough to emit or cause it because I never get it from my 2 year old. I suppose a baby will focus much differently than a brain with known skills, language or patterns.
I wish I could control it like some of you can. I can sometimes hold on to it for a little bit longer but whenever I try to make it happen it sorta gets close but never quite spills over into those pleasurable waves.
Also, to fill in the same holes an many others of you, I am a musician and get big highs from very emotional music or music I know very well cuz I've actually played it before. Not usually this brain-gasm we're talking about but highs nonetheless.

Me too, since childhood. It's great to see so many people with the same experience!

I'm 42 now, and it happens only once in while, 3 or 4 times a year, because it's only caused by certain people, never from taped music or video, must be a live interaction for me. For me, the same person will always elicit the feeling even years later if they are doing the same activity for example drawing or speaking.

But if you lined up 1,000 people doing the same task, only 1 or 2 would cause the feeling.

Only certain types of people trigger the event. For me it's not just that they're concentrating, it's HOW they're concentrating.....they must be 'gentle', soft spoken, deep, kind, seemingly they are all unaware of self.

My best experiences have been in person, either watching someone draw or write or do some other physical activity. Top two experiences are
        1. an accountant, a Native American and very strange with a constant facial tic, he was drawing account balance tables out while describing in detail how our company should balance our accounts, talking through his logic in a normal voice but his voice was a near whisper. He must have though I was stupid because I made him repeat the task several times over several days;
        2. a grocery clerk, scanning my groceries and laying them out strategically for bagging. Watching him think through how he would arrange everything in the bags had me in a stupor. I had a large basket full of stuff, and he had a plan for every item...I didnt want to leave the store;

I actually AM an artist. Not for any companies or anything and I don't know that I'm very good at it, but in my spare time I draw/paint and am always doing crafty things like that... and I'm also a songwriter. I like this theory though... maybe it has to do with using the 'other' side of the brain or something...

Wow! It's crazy that others have this sensation as well. I use to get it as a kid at the library when they would stamp my book card with those electric date stamping machines. I think I get the strongest reaction when I am around a bug exterminator spraying around our house or even at work. Whoever it was that pinpointed the sensation with people doing for you I think thats it. It seems to be more intense of the individual is a professional. Like other's on here I also get it when people empty my trash at night in the office, do surveys on the phone, watch people do inspections or even a mechanic writing out a estimate on one of those greasy receipt dispenser things that they tear off. I though I was so weird with this thing that I never even told anyone about it and last night I told my wife about it and told her about reading about others with the same thing. I ask her if she has ever had it and she said no and thought it was trip that we get it.

Im at work and the cleaner just came in and washed my floors. I stood and watched it and had that fantastic tingling/vibration feeling in the back of my skull. I have had this since a little boy. I remember sitting on my pushbike at around 7 years of age and my best friend was pumping up my tyre and I got it then. It seems to me that it relates to when someone does a gesture for you that they don't really need to do. As I type this just thinking about certain times it has happened triggers it off. Fantastic feeling. I wish I could market a tablet that gave it to you!!

I too get the same feeling when I watch someone clean and everytime I get my car washed is the best feeling ever. Especially when the car is being dried. I hate when the person cleaning the car waives to acknowledge the car is ready. Thought I would mention that I am left handed. Wonder if that means anything.

I get it to! I usually get it when im relaxed and have someone combing my hair, haircuts, someones showing me how to do something. And other random times. I think the first time i felt it was when my dad would measure me against a wall. Its a great feeling i wish i got it more often!

And you know, I googled this just to see if I was the only one. I just got it, actually, which is why I looked it up, after years and years of having it. I agree with previous posters about endorphins in mass quantities. I get it when someone does something nice for me that I'm either not expecting, or that they don't need to do, but are doing it anyway. And it also happens when someone is showing me how to do something or doing something for me.

Considering that I have so little faith in people normally, maybe these make up for it? Haha. It generally starts right behind my eyes and tingles back to my neck, lasts anywhere from a second to a minute or so, sometimes longer.

It's normal for me too! Finally found out that other people get this too, ever since they were little kids. Interesting so many people cared enough about this to look it up. I've always been curious about this sensation but it's so hard to describe I don't think I've ever mentioned it to more than 2 people.
I remember getting it at school listening to a teacher, listening to music, hearing someone sing. It's always a pleasant surprise, nothing I can control, but it's as if that person is making a special connection with me or I realise I have a some kind of insight with that person. This seems to be the common denominator. I don't think it makes me special but perhaps we could try to find out what personality traits we might have in common. How many of the following would describe you:
sensitive, spiritual, artistic, obsessive-compulsive, perfectionist, difficulty relating,
empathic, lonely, non-conformist, gullible or innocent, absent minded or forgetful ??

Would be interested in reading responses

This is pretty incredible, I JUST found this page, I have wondered about this phenomenon my entire life, I had no clue how to describe it to anyone, the few times i have it was met with apprehension, a female co-worker of mine who use to join me for drinks after work all the time decided she didn't want anything to do with me anymore after describing this ... whatever you call it. I am in my early 40s and this is the first time I EVER heard of ANYONE else who has experienced this ??? whatever it is. I only read a few entries and had to post my excitement. I can't wait to read more of this page to see if anyone has a medical or phycological explanation for this. I have had this incredible feeling which I assumed finally must be endorphins upon certain triggers like someone drawing a picture, cutting my hair, drawing a map, the sound of scissors really kicks it in, there are a lot of other triggers but the oddest thing is that it doesn't work with every one and with some people it's so strong that it takes me off guard! I never know who it's going to work with and there seems to be no pattern to it. Now that I have found others who have this I really hope to see what the common denominator is between us. I'm an artist, male, born in the South but moved West, a completionist and somewhat of a perfectionist. Very self aware although I wasn't always. Very much aware of my surroundings. I don't believe in anything supernatural at all but if I did I would swear that I could tell what people are feeling, it drives me crazy to the point where I have to ignore it because i know i could be wrong and I don't believe in supernatural powers. I could go on and on, I just want to see if anyone else out there with this :feeling" has similar traits so i can hopefully make some kind of sense of this. I plan to read this entire page eventually (I'm so busy and work crazy hours that it may take a while) but if anyone out there is mediating this site or any of you want to chime in and tell me something to shed some light on this that I may or may not get from this forum I would be so grateful! I just want some answers. So glad to know I'm not alone!!!

    YES!!!!
Ever since I was a kid, I call this my "floaty feeling".
I used to LOVE IT when the nurse in school would come to the class, take each of us in the back room, and check through our hair, to check for lice.
Just the gengle feeling of her hand on my head, moving my hair around...I'd go back to my seat in a daze, trying not to make any sudden moves, so I would'nt lose the feeling. But eventually, it would disappear.

I'd get the feeling when a teacher (even the ones I hated) would stand next to my desk and lean down to help me with a paper.

I used to watch a community commercial show, with this chiropractor describing what they do in the office, and when he'd start showing us on a "patient", I'd watch, and it'd feel like he was fixing my back, and I'd get my favorite floaty feeling.

No one I ever talked to knew what I was talking about.
    It's like....a relaxing daze.
Lately when I get tempted to get a massage for the first time ever, I get the feeling, if I think about it a lot and picture myself getting the massage.

    I heart this feeling.

I've been wondering about this for almost my whole life now! It started when I was little an in the doctors office..I would just watch him get ready and feel it through my head!
When I first saw (and it still happens) Toy Story 2, the scene wheee Woody is being repaired triggers the same feelings.

    I get it when:

    - People do something right after I've told them not to. And only if I don't physically react to it and just let them do it.

    - a masseuse pulls the toes in a way that the toes might "pop".

I don't get it from observing others. Well I can understand how that would work, but I prefer to look at how things are done, not at it being done. So it doesn't feel tinglish to me when people do or explain stuff.

The tinglish feeling can become painful, just saying.

I just had a whim to look this up, and I was surprised to find this. I don't know what it is but I loooove it. And, for some reason, I never thought of explaining it to my family. They might think it's something sexual or something. Idk.
To add to the. . .triggers, the weird little clicks that mouths make when they whisper? Like a quieter version of smacking your lips? Yeah, that triggers the tingliness. And the feeling of someone playing with your hair. In addition, when someone breathes on my neck. I feel like I'm mentally incapacitated when I'm in that state, but it's oh-so-lovely.

I have been getting the same thing since I was a kid! And oh, it feels amazing! A tickling/tingling/really good feeling on the lower part of my skull or inside my brain, right at the base, and it creeps up and wraps my brain... sort of like a brain-gasm, it just feels really good and intense. Like everyone else, it's not sexual, just feels amazing.

It mostly happens when someone's doing something near me or pertaining to me. Sounds conceited, I know, but that's when it happens most. Like getting my eyes checked at the doctor's office or my ears! Oooh, especially my ears. Let's see...

It usually happens to me if someone's playing with my hair, or if someone's drawing or writing nearby, especially if they're drawing or writing about me. It happened when I was in school too, if I was taking a test and the teacher was walking by and looking over my shoulder.

I also get it when I just hear the 'sound' of people concentrating nearby. Like the scratching of their pens on papers or clicking of keyboards in the office while people are working on reports, etc.

I also seem to be able to call it up at will by thinking of any of those things. If I think about a routine check-up at the doc's office and visualize the visit in a step-by-step sequence (thermometer, blood pressure cuff, checking ears, pen light in eyes, etc.) or if I imagine someone playing with my hair or doing my makeup for me I can feel it, especially if I just sit still and don't touch anything.

Oh, and I get sort of tingley/tickly whenever I get an online survey or even one over the telephone. I don't know why. Oh. Ha. I'm getting it now too just by writing about it. Very strange. But very cool to see others have this too and that I'm not a total freak!

It is extremely disappointing that there really isn't any medical science behind this or a name for this. I just wanted to say I get the same thing when people are showing me how to do things or if I watch someone unboxing something on YouTube. Usually the person is a little weird but I just watch it and get the tingly sensation and it is soothing and comforting. I get it a lot when I go to the doctors or dentist.

I read this topic when it was first posted and there were no/very few replies, and I didn't really recognise it, but.. now I realise I've been getting it all my life and noticing it more and more lately. I never thought it was anything big enough or abnormal enough to bother researching, but now you mention it...

Things that cause it for me:
-Anything to do with my hair.. someone playing with it or cutting it, and I can cause it myself by brushing, combing or running my fingers through.
-Any procedure at the doctors, dentist etc which isn't painful but involves some sort of gentle physical contact.
-Sometimes when a person says or does something I perceive as particularly cute or interesting.
-A person I don't know talking to me in a gentle, kind voice, particularly with certain accents.

I suppose I always thought it meant I was slightly deprived of kindness and physical contact so I just appreciated these little things too much o_O Nice to know it's something enjoyed by many people :)

I have had this all my life. I never searched for it before because I didn't know how to describe it. It is a lovely tingly feeling, mainly in my throat. Something to do with thyroid perhaps? ? Mystical chakras? Weird. I don't get it with videos but I always get it if someone comes round to fix something - plumber, electrician, etc. I want to stay in the room as they work to keep the feeling but worry it might seem a bit gay! It really isn't a sexual thing.

When i watch YouTube videos on tutorials, mainly on something HANDS-on things like "self neck massage", I get them from the base of my neck to the base of my skull. It might have some medical thing with excitement or pleasure, but it is odd for it to work in certain situations. Some people have the same cause of the tingling more than others. But we all do get it, just a matter of finding what triggers it.

This is exactly what happens to me. Everytime I watch someone do something or teach me how to do something, drawing, writing, speaking, I get this weird tingly good feeling sensation. I cannot believe this many people have this happening to them, damn -- I'm getting it right now.

I think it is a condition that allows the brain to release Oxytocin on the spot. I'm no neurologist, but I do know hormones travel through the body through blood. The veins starting in your brain travel through your spinal chord and spread throughout the body. The hormonal response will be more powerful closer to the veins in your brain compared the veins in your feet. Here's the thing, Oxytocin is a sexual hormone. Men have it in more abundance than women. I want to take a shot and say that most of us are guys experiencing this euphoric sensation, but Oxytocin also exists in the female hormonal system, so females can feel this sensation as well, but just not as frequently. It originates at a young age and is one of the hormones responsible for sexual desire and reward. Dopamine is the other major one. I have a theory that Oxytocin, in our rare cases, has been open for release when we WANT to feel good. Note that most of us have certain releases of euphoric sensations. Our brain rewards these certain activities with Oxytocin and possibly a mix of Dopamine, even though the nature of the activity is not sexual. We want to feel good, so our brain gives us that reward. This is rare because most of the population of Earth always want to feel good, but can't on a basis like this. THOUGH, I may be completely wrong. This is just a theory.

I believe this should further be studied by a neurologist with a study group to measure activity when this feeling comes across so we can measure brain activity and hormonal release. Hopefully we can further understand this awesome condition!

Signed up just to leave a comment. I wasn't going to, because I'm pretty sure I won't get a response, and it will be just lost in a sea of comments... But still feel my input would be useful for a bit of research.

I got this feeling the first time when my mum showed me how to draw something. I just zoned out, and got really relaxed. If I am watching someone draw something, with a pencil, and using very precise measurements or specific techniques, I get super relaxed.

I don't get this from peoples' voices. I have tried to explain this to people in the past by saying...

"I get crazy relaxed and numb when watching someone, who doesn't know anybody is watching, do something extremely precise that I don't understand."

    1. Drawing, sketching, painting, sculpting. Without them telling me what/why they are doing certain things. I would search youtube for videos of doing entire paintings, but would never find them. Bob Ross videos are good, I guess, but only ever 2 minutes long.

    2. Girls doing their makeup. It's a weird one, I know, but when a girl is applying mascara without her being aware I'm watching... Fuzzy. It's so strange, and I've explained this to girls in the past, and if they know I'm watching... It doesn't work.

    3. WEIRDEST ONE YET, and one I haven't seen at all on these boards... When I was younger, I had VERY SLIGHT pimples on my back. If someone was to pop them (can't believe I am saying this), very methodically... It was THE best version of this feeling ever.

Weird. That I just said that. Anybody else get that?

    So.
    1. No talking, VERY concentrated.
    2. Very precise, usually if I don't understand their technique/skill.
    3. They have to be doing it COMPLETELY for themselves, not knowing anyone is watching.

Hello, I have had this feeling since i was first taught how to ride a bike by my dad(that I remember). I feel strongly that is the result of more than one mind/aware consciousnesses going/striving/working towards the same interest. I get it when I play my bass with my friends, I get it EXTREMELY EVERY-TIME I am taught something. I used to go to church, and in striving to fit in, i started to attribute this feeling to god. Afterwards, discovering pot and psychedelics, I realized this was absolutely not the case. When I encounter people of a similar mind-set, open and free without inhibitions, without a heaviness to their selves(like they are tied down to this world). I get the feeling and slight paralization from an almost sensory overload of POSITIVE energy flowing down the back of my neck, through my spine, to my extremities, to where i feel like im glowing with it. the after effects last around 4 hours of a weird combination of excitement/calm serenity/amazement/ and a sense of connection to whoever im around. I am 18, generation y, and i believe i am part of the mass sudden evolution happening with this being but the beginning. I get the feeling from seeing all of your posts describing your own similar experiences, such a great feeling! I can offer much speculation on the true cause, but I really dont know why it is, but im glad it is. WE should all gather in one place for a private gathering (rainbow tribe ish) just think of how you will feel, what we might accomplish! We could possibly be the new breed, the next step from common man, or, every one could be capable of it, but they are too close minded. Being so glad of finding this page, I will stop using the word I, because we all really are the same thing. We are one.

Wow! I always thought I was the only person that this happened to. I get the sensation when I get hair cuts, but more often from listening to music. Listening to music is when the feeling is the most intense, it starts as a tingle in my head then seems to gather at the base of my skull and then move out to the rest of my body and I'm left feeling awesome and relaxed, sometimes it is accompanied by a warming sensation. I get it at other times to, but listening to music and getting my hair cut are the only two things that I have payed attention to.

I watched one of those whispering videos and it happened for me too, it was weird.

I signed up in an effort to offer an explanation. I am not an expert, but I remember watching a report on tv about Synaesthesia. There are different types - Some people can taste words and others can feel music - symphonies or concerts wear them out physically. So... Here is an exerpt from the Synaesthesia Research Group website:
...Other synaesthetes experience strong tactile sensations (itching, tingling) when hearing noises such as those emitted by a vacuum cleaner.... Their website is: http://www.synaesthesia.uwaterloo.ca/
Google this "condition" to find more info.
I get the tingly feeling usually when I am complimented on pretty much anything. A job well done (graphic design), how I look, clothing I'm wearing, etc.. I have always tried to suppress it as I felt it was a somewhat egotistical thing, which made me feel uncomfortable. I also have the hair cutting thing - but I always liked that, I think because it was not related to me. (See egotistical remark) I also get it when watching certain videos or movies - things that make me feel happy in my heart. Go figure. I will now enjoy the ego thing. Peace.

The feeling is like laying down in a hot bath tub and feeling that amazing tingle all over your body, especially behind the head. There's nothing sexual about it, in fact the moment I start to think about sexual things it will begin to go away. When it comes you just want nothing else but to sit still and enjoy, nothing else matters in the moment, feels good.

Decided to finally search for this and can't believe how many people have the same thing. I'm not sure how old this page is or if anyone checks this post anymore!

I've had this for as long as I can remember and like most people on here thought I was the only one.

The earliest memory I have of experiencing it was when I was about 10 or 11. My best friend was round and he started randomly drawing a little model I had in my room. The waves of feelings I had while I watched him were unlike anything I had ever experienced before. I didn't want him to stop. After that, I would get other people who were around to draw the same item telling them I wanted to see how different people interpret the same item.

For me it's always watching people concentrate doing things. Sometimes its heightened by them maybe not aware of my watching. Not in a creepy, outside the window looking in kind of way! But a kind of side glance at a colleague doing something or seeing someone across the office concentrate on something. Like I'm seeing them at their most intimate. It's sounds really strange writing it like that but it's really not!

I thought for a while that this feeling was linked to whatever my 'true calling' on this planet was. If I found a career or job that would let me feel that all the time, that's what I was put here to do but I can't work out what it is! You hear of people getting a buzz from work and thought for a long time that this feeling was what they were having.

I love randomly getting this feeling. Yesterday I got it. I was staying late after work and the cleaner came in. He swept up around me and then when he was sweeping up into the dustpan and concentrating on it, I had a huge wave of it! And then it was gone.

It's amazing hearing other peoples stories about how they get it and theories on what it may be. I'm a very empathetic person and can nearly always tell if something is up with someone. Some of my friends and family get sick of me asking if something is wrong because I can tell instantly if they are not their normal selves and something is troubling them.

I'd love to explore this further with people here.
    Mikey

Like many of you I always had this happen when I was a kid. Mostly when someone would help me with something at school that involved drawing or writing.

A had not thought much about it until a while back when I came across an article on gizmag.com. It turns out the there is a name for it. It is called Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response.
I have not tried what they mention in the article but supposedly there are videos online that you can watch and it will cause the response.

I had completly forgot about it until I saw this post.

I will see if I can find the article and post the link here.

    Hi:
So I googled this question myself today and stumbled upon your question. I'm so glad I'm not alone on this! Personally, the little euphoric tingling sensation is on the back of my head and down the back of my neck. It's brief for me and when it isn't, it comes in short intervals.

So, what kind of stumped me is the cause. You say it comes from watching others, possibly if they're focused, like in a YouTube video. That's one trigger for me, though it's a bit more than that.

I find that for me personally, the most common trigger is hearing a certain sound I find pleasing or relaxing. It can be a person's voice, or footsteps, or something miscellaneous. Does this also apply to anyone, or is it just me?

Hi, I think this is an amazing site - I have experienced this (ASMR), though not through any media itended to invoke it - I wasn't aware until now that any significant number of other people had experienced it. I would say that it's caused by [quantum mechanical] entanglement with another person or or a real or imaginary event (as in role playing). I'm a British electronic engineer living in China and I have been researching dreams and the paranormal for over 30 yrs, I have found that such entanglement can affect the value of E zero, which in turn can amplify the intensity of response and may lead to an orgasmic type of reaction by positive feedback. I believe such virtual events exist in 'the dreaming', a term used by the Australian aboriginies to describe the virtual [probabalistic] world outside of normal space-time, and I believe this is where dreams occur, as our consciousness can exist here as well as in the part of 'the dreaming' that we call reality. I'm not religious, but I think that this could explain 'afterlife' as quantum mechanical processes work just as well in virtual spacetime as in 'reality', i.e. our consciousness could exist in virtual worlds just as well as it does in the 'real' world. Don't worry, AliceinWonder :)

I've been researching this for years now...off and on, but my triggers aren't all or always involuntary I can control them if I want. They're more intense when I close my eyes and focus, but less intense when my eyes are open. After voluntarily doing it for a while I start to yawn for some reason. Some call being able to control this sensation Kundilini, Voluntarily induced goose bumps (VIG) for short, or focused orgone energy being absorbed and released.

I haven't had time to read all of the previous comments, but WOW, the ones I have. I've been experiencing this indescribable feeling since I was a child, I am now 37. I Googled a series of such feelings with the same surprise... I'm not alone.
I remember feeling THIS as a child: when Mom was vacuuming, Grandma was cooking, Bob Ross was painting, while getting a haircut, a "lice check", someone borrowing my pencil in class and watching them write with it, the teacher writing on the chalk board, keys being made (grinding metal), window washers squeaking and tapping their squeegees... It seemed any regimented, animated action gave me a tickle in the back of my head... that tickle made me relaxed and I wanted it to go on... forever. Now, as an adult, I think it must be a gland releasing dopamine. I still get it now and then during a haircut (or watching a haircut), Bob Ross (still), a massage (or watching a massage), cooking shows, building shows, medical exams...etc. I venture to say it might be that "Safe Place" that has become a joke in our vernacular. That "Safe Place" that we're all told to go to when things get rough, stressful. Is it a memory of comfort and security? Whatever it is, I want it all the time.

OMG this is the most epic topic ever. I get this!! I honestly didn't know anyone else ever got this, or that there was a name for it even. It's a lovely warm, relaxing, fuzzy, tingly sensation that spreads from the top of your head down into your neck and shoulders :D It's so nice <3 I get it when I'm happy and cos;. I used to get it when I watched people in my art class drawing, or when people played with my hair. I don't get it often any more though. I think one must grow out of it, sadly.

I just recently happened on to the ASMR term and the idea that I was not the only one this happened to. All these years I thought I was just a freak. It is the most amazing feeling in the world. And no, it's not sexual at all. I know what that feels like and this is totally different, and in my opinion, much better! I get it by watching peoples hands, mostly people I'm close to, but sometimes it can be someone famous I admire on tv or something. When someone is holding their hands and rubbing them, or touching something lightly or rubbing their fingers on something. When Someone is reading out loud or speaking softly or singing softly. Sometimes even when someone just has a certain look on their face or in their eyes. It's like it starts in my face and neck and goes through my chest and my arms and stomach. It's like warm and calm and just so wonderful. It's like an intense feeling of holding my fathers hand as a kid, or the feeling you get when your at total peace with someone. I also think it involves empathy and sensitivity and trust. It's like being vulnerable and safe and just in total euphoria. It amazes me that all of you guys feel this. I always thought I was so alone in this. It's great to know I'm not a freak!! So yea I just had to post too!! :)

From what I've read from the above comments it truly does seem to be some sort of link between being creative/artistic and perhaps being a genuine, understanding person. I did not have this feeling for a long time and honestly forgot about it or just thought it was a normal feeling people got. Something triggered this the other day and i suddenly remembered i used to get it all the time when i was younger. Some searching around the internet finally led me to some ASMR page. Its amazing to find out how many people get this and have looked into it enough to find this page. We need to figure this out! if it is some sort of evolutionary response to helping our fellow humans out or showing genuine interest in each other than my god this is truly important. If we all join the experience project page we could find a way to communicate and find some common denominators and exchange ideas.

Me again, I think I know what it could be. Looked into it and found web sites on tuning forks and the vibrations. Every cell in our body is a sound resonator. Every cell lives in a dynamic rhythmic pattern. Each organ has its own cycle and its own pulse. Each and every system has a cycle, rhythm, pattern, and pulse that exist in resonant harmony and sympathy to the cycles of the earth and the heavens. These body systems respond to sound vibration, as do our spiritual, mental, and emotional states of consciousness. —

Wow! So many comments to even read at one time since it's late, but praise God I happened upon this question and all those who share this feeling! My personal times I have noticed this started when I was very young and I would be with my mom as she picked fabric out at the store for some new project and the lady at the counter would unfold the bolt of material and measure and cut it, I would get the most amazing relaxing sensation in the universe! Since that time all sorts of seemingly mindless tasks would produce it, some of these have been happening upon random late night cable tv where some random makeup was being sold or hair product and just watching people put the makeup on the model or cut someones hair. Totally bizarre things like someone washing windows as well. Shhh so cool to know this is out there with others! :)

I am so happy to find this...

Unlike a lot of posters I don't get it when my scalp is touched or when I go to the salon...

I get it only when I watch someone concentrate on something and not know I am there, especially someone reading intently yet calmly...

I love this feeling, it's not sexual just relaxing, calming, soothing and pleasurable... Nothing compares.

I've had this for as long as I can recall.
For me it tends to be the voices of older people. (men most of the time)
Bob Ross can cause this feeling almost 100% of the time. His voice, the sound of the paint tools on the canvas, even the sounds of him breathing and swallowing. LOL

It is not a sexual feeling at all and starts from the back of my head and moves over my whole body. Can't/Don't want to move at all when the feeling hits. My ears tend to raise *crack* and pull back and maintain a pulled back position during it all. (the crack is almost like a bone crack. Not an altitude *pop*)
Now this might sound strange but my whole life I've always been able to remember lots of memories from my youth. Images and feelings from when I was really little like 2 years old and under and around that time.
One of which causes this feeling of euphoria.
This is a very strange image/feeling. As crazy as this sounds I feel like its a memory from inside the womb. I can recall being young and thinking of this thought and just laying there and feeling great. Not a sound or an image but it is... The easiest way to describe it would be to say its like opening your jaw but keeping your lips together. Then opening your lips. But all the while there is a very loud silence all over your entire body. Its like being underwater but still hearing the sound of lips being opened.

Wow, this is the first time I've tried to write this and think this is the best way to describe it.
I would love to know what these chemicals are in the brain that are being released and what its all about. I love it.

This is the first time in all my searches online for this phenomenon that I've actually found what I'm looking for! So happy to know I am in good company and there are others who experience the head tingles. :-)

It's facinating there are so many different ways to acheive it. With me it is most often soft voices, but I also felt it in high school band class when we were playing particularly well.(Been a loooong time since those days, LOL)

My first memory of it is as a child listening to the voice of The Friendly Giant and also the narrator of Tales of the Riverbank. Later in life, I discovered the one and only Bob Ross and his magical, soothing voice! My most recent discovery is Lita of massageclips.com, her videos on YouTube are wonderful.

There are so many comments above that mirror exactly my state of mind/experiences. Hopefully someday we will have an answer as to what is going on neurologically!

I’m laughing out loud right now…it’s so amusing and strange that so many people know exactly what this feels like. I’m 23 and I’ve been experiencing this sensation my whole life. It’s very difficult to describe it; I actually think I enter slight state of hypnosis. I just completely zone out and I get a wonderfully pleasant feeling at the back of my head, the outside world totally disappears and my eyelids feel heavier. It happens when a stranger is doing something for me or explaining something to me in a gentle and very detailed way, particularly if they are using their hands in the process. Someone playing with my hair causes it as well, but it has to be a stranger or an acquaintance. It never happens when the person involved is someone very close to me like my mother who “has to” be nice to me / do stuff for me…that sound terrible haha, but it’s true! Most recently it happened when a makeup artist at a bobby brown store offered to apply the eye shadow that I had just bought, I totally went into a hypnotic state while she was doing my makeup. I don't know whether there is necessarily a causal connection between this and being artistic. Even though I'm artistic, I think its got more to do with being sensual. I experience a slightly similar sensation when sitting at the edge of a bath with the tap running. Not a sexual thing at all.

Ever since I was kid, I got this as well. It's the most amazing feeling. I get it when I watch people clean or vacuum or when they're concentrating. One time, I was watching some painters paint my factory.I was watching these two old guys painting and I just stood there literally transfixed. I kept this feeling going for almost 10 minutes before I called it quits. It was so good, I went back home at 5 in the afternoon.Went to bed and woke up at 7 the next day.As many of you have stated, it definitely not sexual. It's just a tingling sensation you get when you watch people doing things. For me, watching people doing mundane tasks like cleaning or vacuuming.

Wow, I know everyone's been saying it but I really can't believe how many responses this has got - I get this too! I never thought to explain it because it sounds so weird to most people.
I get this feeling a lot from people whispering or speaking really softly, like in a library or an examination hall. I also get it when I get my hair cut or played with, or when people touch my back.
I get it when people are explaining something too, like in a video make-up tutorial, or if a person is showing me how to do something personally. Sometimes I can't concentrate on what they're actually saying because of the feeling, ha :) It's really nice though.
Some people have said it may be down to creativity? I am an artist, writer and musician and a lot of other people have said they're artistic or particularly creative, so I can see the link.

I don't want to pick a fight but I think this "feeling" we get is just that and nothing more

So let me pose a theory, what if we find it weird because we get this feeling so little?

what if what we call weird is normal to everyone else cus they get it whenever the close their eyes to go to sleep ?, so to them it does not feel so unique like it does for us.

It's like two people side by side the both
have two buckets of water person "A" one cold (bucket 1) and one hot (bucket 2) person "B" has one warm (bucket 1) and one hot (bucket 2)

    both people have their hand in (bucket 1) and than place it in (bucket 2) the relative difference in temp would be greater for person "A" {which is us} as apposed to person "B" {the non tingly people}

Let's see if I'm right How many people here
consider themselves to be "Relaxed" ? as in this is public perception of you.

I am not this, I'm a very intense person, I think I'm relaxed but I know I'm not.

My mind races alot , I don't remember most of my dreams, on times I'm nervous for no reason
I can feel tension, from large groups of people

I have a very short temper, but I hide it well
I would love nothing more than to be up Dusk till Dawn it's when I have the most energy and concentration.

In closing if this sounds like you then I think
that we have a different rhythm then the people around us.

You sound the same as me dude. A bunch of the posters above are talking rubbish at spirituality and the bible and shit - I'm a scientist, I know psychics etc are just liars. This is fascinating.

I am a "wannabe" documentary film maker who would love to make a project out of this. I'm trying to get a sense for who might be interested in participating. If you are, drop me a line here.

I experience this but at a MUCH more infrequent way and seemingly atypical to most of you on here. I have the sensation in the front of my head when I go into concentration overload. Times when my concentration is so focused that I feel like the front of my brain/skull has been highly excited as if blood flow has been significantly increased to provide more processing power. I wish I could experience it as most of you have but mine is limited to very rare experiences and it's usually when I'm under stress - such as my boss drilling me about some urgent matter that I have to produce results on quickly.

Sorry #bodwin, even though you touched the theme 7 years before me, I think that your story is bs, and that you are faking it. Especially with the baby steps bs story to enlightment.
I'm affected with the same affliction as all of you on the msgbrd. Started experiencing it at primary school. Mostly from watching my school mates maticulusly writing or drawing, or watching school cleaning lady moping the hallways. I get the same surge of endorfin today, 20 yrs later, when watching the cleaning lady that does my apartment wash and wipe my windows.
What I can tell you as a fact is that tingling sensation at the back of your head/neck is a surge of endorfin that your pituitary gland is releasing. Why it happens, I really don't know. All I can tell you is if you tax it too much (chase the events that produce it), it will fade and it will be harder to achive (the high, the tingling).
The experience is very similar to abusing opiate drugs. While the whole ordeal drove me to it, I would highly recommend everyone else to aviod it (abusing opiates).
As everything in life, this natural high should be consumed moderately and with respect.
If anybody figures out the reason for this phenomenon occuring, please let me know.

    Z.

if this is the feeling i am thinking about.... i can turn it off and on in the right circumstances, all i do is focus really hard on that memory and imagine that everything is the same in the room i am in, that someone is giving me a haircut, touching my head i hear the sound of the blade in my ears, feel it moving slowly from the front to the back of my head......this feeling, the tingling in my arms, legs, the back of my head, even goosebumps, its like even though time is moving around me,i can just think and freeze the world into place. holding on to it for as long as i can, as if my heart and soul is at peace at the same time. like anything could happen to me right then and there.... and it wouldn't matter because i have this feeling in the palm of my hands. and then when its gone, i didn't realize how fragile it was, like a bubble popping. it used to be that i can feel it lingering but i couldn't hold onto it. this is the way it feels to me anyway. also to me its a blessing and a curse.... a blessing because me soul is like.... completely at one with the universe and my true nature tends to shine through, my ability to adapt to both my environment and the people around me. it is also a curse for a number of reasons, when i adopt... its like i lose apart of myself. idk how but i think this also ties into depression to. not the way you think thou, if i start to feel this way and one of my friends are around me who is depressed, i absorb it and when i snap out of this peaceful state, i feel depressed and they miraculously feel like the world was set right for them. But then again, i also absorb people who are extremely energetic, in the same way, so its give and take for me. also, i think this is tied into astral projection, i have these dreams that are between being awake and being asleep and this same feeling is present, i know that i make the choices, where i go in these lucid-dreams, like i force my body to walk to the door, then i open the door and i appear some where random and not always some where i know, i have googled and found these streets and they look exactly the way they where in my dream, i just thought it was me being off my rocker but was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience?

Yep, happens to me quite a bit. It's a great feeling as well and I always wish it lasts longer than it does. I tend to get it when I see good work done, like even a waiter / waitress cleaning a table well, while I don't get it when the work done is poor, sloppy or done too quickly.

I'll get it watching a crafts person carry out a task but it has to be done slowly, carefully and in a relaxed way. Too much speed and it stresses you and you don't get the feeling.

It's completely normal as you can see from all the responses.

It seems like this thread is old, but I have just stumbled upon this for the first time. I thought I was the only wierdo in the world who got a strange pleasure out of watching other people work.

My best example is when I worked in the Okavango Delta on some game lodges. One of the best things I did was spend hours watching the mechanics service the landrovers in the work shop. I would just sit there and watch them expertly clean and replace parts of the vehicle. They would sometimes describe what they were doing and this would add to the sensation. I didn't want to move or say anything to disrupt them.

For me the pleasure arises when watching someone dedicated or fully focussed to their task, proficient or expert in their field, unperturbed by external distractions. I wouldn't venture to say its origins or meaning, but it feels good and produces peace.

Some else above described it well:

"Watching anyone doing something very methodically. Someone who has perfected whatever they are doing down to where there are no wasted movements or energy and everything is very precise and deliberate in their actions. Almost so much so that their actions seem soft or gently done."

I laughed so hard when I found this page. Ive had this for several years but never dared to speak about it because I had no idea of what kind of response I would get if I asked family or friends, and now I feel like there are millions of us. Really nice to see that im not alone. Ill maybe dare asking my doctor the next time I stop by.

I havent searched enough for this so I dont know if it got a name (maybe a psychologist know this?) but Ill try to conclude what is trigging these emotions and why.

After reading through alot of comments here it seems that the feeling comes everytime we are getting help or at least getting acceptance from someone.

    - I get it when im getting my hair done ( A stranger is helping me by making my hair look better)

    - I decided to finish som classes since I havent finished school yet, and I wanted to finish them by studying home, so when I got called up by one of the employees (from the school) that helped me through what I should send in to them, how to register etc I got this feeling sooo bad. Here, as at the hairstylist, the person I talked to were a stranger to me but wanted me positive progress.

    - I got it when my uncle (pretty new to the family) draw a riddle for me and wanted me to find out. Allthough we have a great tone together and all that, I allways hope for making a good conversation when I meet him. I have a tiny fear of the meeting to go bad, maybe because I dont meet him often enough to be 100% secure on him.

I can watch my mom write the shoppinglist and I wont get it, so it seems that it got something to do with people we dont know very well. Its like a whole new person is "interested" in YOU. They are using their time on you. You are being prioritised by a person who comes out of the blue.

I think this feeling is what people refer to as "the warm fuzzies", but only some people actually feel it as a physical Chang rather than a metaphorical one. I've felt this my whole life, a very pleasant warming sensation, my head tingles, I getgoose bbumps and my hair seems to stand on end, all in a good way. It usually happens when someone is helping me...teacher, eye Dr...even at the dentist. Definitely during a massage...but even at ridiculous times, like while on tech support. As a kid I had a lot of sinus headaches (teenager) and I learned to generate this feeling for myself at will to ease the pain...along with it comes a surge of adrenaline over my brain and if I do it long and hard enough I can feel it in my arms and legs and down my spine. Anyone else on here have similar experiences?

Omg this happens to me all the time! It's such an amazing feeling that is so hard to explain. It usually starts at the back of my neck and then goes up my head. I always get it when someone cuts my hair, when someone does my makeup, when people are explaining things to me, or when someone gives me a compliment. One time I got it after I did something nice for a random stranger. I think that time it was triggered by me feeling good about myself for being nice. lol

    Hey!
I have these feelings as well and I also really wanted to know if things like that happen to other people. When I tell my husband about it, he just laughs at me.
I decided to give it a search, and I found this! I am so glad I am not alone! :D

It happens to me only with certain people. But I never know who it can be.
The following acts have that effect on me only when some people do it:

    1. When somebody pages a book or a magazine in front of me.
    2. When getting haircut or watching somebody get one.
    3. This is certainly the weirdest of all. When cleaning ladies clean the office. I feel it even more when they chew gum while cleaning.

I am sitting in my office now and can still hear the cleaner's broom sweeping the rest of the office. He just left my office and I am feeling extremely relaxed and sort of hypnotized.
The good thing is I love this feeling! But it is always so short. :/
Anyway, I just wanted to share it, whether someone reads it or not, I don't care, but I am really glad I found others like me too! :)

I registered specifically to reply to this! I have had this feeling come over me since I was four years old, and nobody else I know seems to know what I'm talking about, so it's wonderful to see so many people here who do!
I get the tingly feeling in the back of my skull, down my spine and into my stomach, and it also feels like my skin tingles. My triggers have always been someone asking me questions (like in a survey or interview) or touching the backs of my shoulders. It's never been sexual, just pleasant, and when it does happen, I usually sit as still as I can and regulate my breathing to try and extend the feeling b/c it's so nice.
So glad to see other people who know what I've experienced since I was a child!

    Hi again
Just keep reading more blogs. It's so weird that everybody thinks that they are the only one. I think this thing is quite rare and so when you try and explain it everybody else thinks your weird!! One thing is for sure the 'hair' thing is a really common thread with everyone who is lucky enough to experience this great feeling. I looked it up on Wikki and have decided that a 'brain orgasm' is a great way to explain it.

Hi, this feeling happens to me all the time when I have my hair done or played with, when I have my legs waxed especially when they get the tweezers out, when I listen to some people talk and when people are tapping on the computer keyboard. I have just looked at some you tube ASMR and it is useless. I don't get this role play thing at all. It's a bit pervertish! Listening to it without the visual sounds like they're making a porno movie! Not my experience of ASMR at all. After reading loads of blogs. I really think it must have something to do with tuning in to other people concentrating. I also think the hands are quite important but not sure how or why.

Wow! I didn't think when I googled my tingles that anything would appear. My "tingles", come when someone is touching my personal belongings, I ask people (friends) to look through or organize my wallet or touch and act interested in perhaps my makeup bag or other things... I love the feeling, not sexual... More like a soft head massage. I believe it's our interconnection and some of us are more in tune with our energies and psychic abilities. I love it and am pleased to read that others have experienced this. I do get the same feeling when telemarketers call, or when I'm listening to a calming voice.

This is so awesome seriously thought I was the only one to have this euphoria, everyone that I talked to had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. I really love this feeling and try to recreate it any chance that I get.
This feeling occurs the most when
    -someone is drawing me
-I am talking to customer service on the phone and they are typing
-when I take a phone survey
-or when I am a test subject in some sort of school experiment or psychological test
-at the dentists (I love it!)
-at the doctors when they take my blood pressure
-at the chiropractors being adjusted (rare)
    -when I donate blood
    -getting a hair cut

ASMR! It's called ASMR. I don't know if anyone has already mentioned it since I didn't read every single comment. But if you go on YouTube and search ASMR you'll find tons of videos about it and videos to watch that will trigger it. Just thought someone might find this helpful. Trust me, there are a lot more people in this world that have it. It's not a bad thing either. YOU'RE NORMAL.

Wow I just thought I would Google this also and this was top of the charts for what I Googled. Mine seems to be triggered by raw singing (really good opera seems to be the biggest). I have never had it happen to anything but music yet. I am surprised to find so many other who know this feeling as no one I have met has had this feeling either!! Would love to hear more on other peoples triggers and the exact feeling. Mine can vary depending on what I can only describe as the quality of the singing sometimes its right at the back right side of my head (that's more raw non opera singing) and whole rear of my head when it's what I think to be an amazing singer. Post back soon as I look forward to hearing about you! (Also I totally made an account to post this!)

    Oh. My. Gosh.
I never knew this was a thing. I had no idea other people get this same way!! I too have felt this tingly feeling in my head since childhood. I remember being in 2nd grade and a guest teacher was showing us how to do an art project.. I remember wishing that she wouldn't stop talking! Her voice, it was so calming. I tend to feel this way if I really like someone's voice when they're explaining something. I've favorited many videos on youtube simply because the person explaining makes me get this feeling. Sometimes when friends and I are playing a game I'll feel this way too, or when a teacher is teaching.

To the original person who posted this question and others who are reporting similar sensations:

This is a real, studied condition with a name! It is called "ASMR" which stands for "autonomous sensory meridian response." I suppose it's not "normal" in the sense that it's not experienced by the majority of the population, but it's a real thing that many people have and it's normal for YOU. You don't have to take my word for it, just Google ASMR. But even better than that, there was a great story broadcast on the radio show "This American Life" just the other day, told by a woman who has this condition and thought she was the only one her whole life - until just recently. I urge you to go to YouTube to listen to that radio story. Just copy and paste the following into the YouTube search window:

[Media & ASMR] NPR 'This American Life' broadcast about ASMR US radio

Just be patient with the minute or so of introduction by the host and then her story will start.

If you're feeling the things you've been talking about above, you will appreciate this, I PROMISE. Hearing this story together is what made my husband finally tell me - after 13 years of marriage - that he experiences ASMR and never told anyone. I personally do not experience it, but I'm so glad to know this about him and so glad he doesn't have to feel strange or alone anymore. You don't have to either!

Now that I'm thinking about it, this be why I love cooking. I love watching people cook on youtube and also makeup tutorials. Cool :) Do any of you like to cook? Also what are some movie scenes that trigger you?

Holy hell, this is crazy! I've been getting these sensations ever since I first watched Matilda in the scene where Miss. Honey is making tea for Matilda and she's telling her the story of when she was young, OMFG. And it just tingles like in the back of my throat kind of and my head. Such a good feeling! Or when people talk/read aloud low. Omg now I've been reading all this and I've found a bunch of forums where people share their YouTube videos. And people always look at me funny when I try to describe it to them. Hopefully my future husband has "the voice" lmaoo!

I completely get it too. The haircut thing doesn't happen to me, but I hate getting haircuts. It hits me when I'm learning something or someone else and I are demonstrating knowledge to each other. I knew I couldn't be the only one who experienced this, but I've never heard anyone else mention it. It happened to me today at work so I googled it. As far as I know there's no name for it. It doesn't feel like a positive emotion even. It's a physical sensation that is extremely enjoyable. It's a pleasurable sensation at the back of the head right above my throat. Sometimes I'll think back to situations that I've felt it in just to experience it. It's that nice, really. I just wish I knew what the heck it was about, or at least a name for it.

This amazing... I never new I had it until my brother told me he had this feeling when watching someone concentrating on something. He said he often found tutorial videos on youtube to relax himself and to feel like this.
I told him that I thought that it must be nice to be able to feel like that. The next day I kept thinking about what he said and googled it and stumbled upon this thread.
I Feel it strongest when I get my hair cut or get a massage. I also get it when I'm at the doctor. And sometimes when I'm with people that concentrate on something that I'm a part of.
I've never thought about this as being weird or strange and i wonder if there's people that live with this without knowing about it, because it never occurred to them that they were different...

Ok so i dont know if people are still reading these posts. Its the first time I came across it and like most i did not know if others got these feelings of comfort when certain things happen. So it has happened to me since i was about 4years old. I am now 22. I think it has to do with energy but also its like you get captured into their (other people's) thought process (energy waves) and it sends a soothing sensation to your brain. the thingly/"could fall asleep any moment now" feeling is located in my eyes and front part of my brain and face. sometimes even in my neck. it happens mostly when people around me are concentrating or doing a task. or thinking with an action or trying to find a solution to something. it can happen when its me and 1 other person or if its me and a few other people. When i was little I use to ask my mom or the girl who worked for us to find something for me that I had "lost" and knew they would not find so i could watch them dig through the draws and places cuz it gave me that soothing feeling. it only happens to me in real life situations and im almost positive has to do with the other persons thought process. I got this feeling earlier today which was the cause of me finding this site. my work college was paging through a file looking for something (thought process) paging through it and i get the feeling without even having to look directly at her. i can look infront of me and she will be in the corner of my eye and i get that soothing feeling. i get this very often. so does anyone know the scientific reason why this happens?

HOLY COW!!!! I seriously can't believe this.....i always thought this was normal for everyone. It has also happened to me since I was little especially when I watch ppl draw pictures.....the only reason I looked it up was because it has been happening to me A LOT lately and making it hard to concentrate in class. It happens every day in my art history classes, and usually happens when I am just sitting calmly not thinking about anything and just observing ppl. It is so intense! I love the feeling but it has been happening so much that it has been freaking me out so I asked my friends and no one else ever feels it! WHAT IS IT???? why do we all experience this and other ppl don't?? I want to know!? :)

In 90% cases it's with an opposite sex (female).
Usually it happens when I do not expect someone to be helpful or do not expect someone to make a present to myself and they do it anyway.
Also foreign accents set the feeling off.

The feeling usually lasts for 15-30 minutes. :D

I've just been refunded on ebay by a chinese shop, and am experiencing it:

Things that trigger my feelings are deep instruments, sweeping, someone elses pencil on a piece of paper, the turning of pages when someone is reading a book.

Only thing I can't figure out is if I enjoy the sounds more with my eyes closed or open? :)

WOW. I can't believe there are so many of you out there that feel this like I have since I've been, oh I don't know, alive? It was only recently that I started to ask cause the more I grew up, the more intense it got. I always thought everyone felt it. As it turned out, no one knew what the hell I was talking about. lol

I've been so addicted to this feeling since I was wee small that in school I'd have friends draw fake tattoos on me, or ask every adult to help me out with my math even though I knew the answer. From story telling to watching parents/grandparents clean house. Good thing my Grandma enjoyed reading palms cause I would drool every time I would ask her to read mine. I'd even swallow my pride for a tradeoff and tell my Mom that there was a kid at school that had lice and ask that she could check my scalp. Haha. I just loved this.

For those of you who have never felt it, it's more of a physical high that immobiles you. I can only force myself to talk when I want that other person to continue in whatever it is that makes it happen. IT'S SO AWESOME!!!!! Better than sex.

    Anyway,
when I got older I found a job as a collector. I started to feel it over the phone while the other person on the other end would write down my number and ext. Sometimes I wouldn't feel it at all and would ask the other person to read it back to me. They would hang up or confess that they didn't write it down. I sorta realized that it had to be from someone concentrating or staying focused while doing something. For me, I guess it didn't matter if a person was physically with me or not.

But now I've been practicing on keeping this "high" feeling throughout the day. I realized it's now coming and going sporadically out of nowhere. Please don't think I'm weird but it happens a lot on Facebook. Especially when I get a Friend's Request. Maybe at the exact time that person or someone is looking through my profile pics. Or maybe I'm imagining they are in my head so that I can feel it again. hahaha Ah your probably thinking I'm crazy with a backwards K.... But I'm glad this site exists cause now I'm not alone. :)

Does anyone maybe feel that this has something to do with what other people claim to be: A 'Psychic Vampire?' Cause I almost never believed in that. I always wanted to believe in a real blood drinking vampire so that eternal life would be possible as I'm tragically scared of death...... (ramble)

Ok, back to the Psychic Vampire thing! So then I started connecting the dots and I'm thinking maybe we are? Maybe that's what it is?

I asked a Christian once and he said it was the 'Holy Spirit.' Hey, believe what you want but I'm not convinced!

Wow so I know I'm all late to this party haha but i was reminded of this feelin the other day at work. And now I can't stop thinking about it haha. Im a 29 yr old male from redlands Ca, After finding this site I started asking other ppl I know if they got it and no one did. Go figure, but it's so nice to know there are more ppl who get this amazing feeling. I have to ask if anyone of you gets migrains. "I got them at 5yrs old - 22" after I cracked my head open one time. "5yr old boys what can ya do" haha anywho I'm just trying to find a connection.
I find if I'm able to clear my head and relax my body and zone out on someone who is concentrating on a physical task I can get this. Over and over it will pulsate. So good haha I Love watching ppl in person play music because it will give me the feeling. I wonder if some electric device will trigger this, if so I'd buy it ASAP. Anyway good to meet all of you :D

I've been experiencing these sensations for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I didn't know the trigger, so I would just get really happy when it finally happened. Now that I know the triggers, I can experience this more often, on purpose and it's awesome.

I noticed there are many creative minds and empathetic hearts here. I write stories for fun and am pursuing a career in nursing. I also love animals and have a dream of owning my own shelter someday. I wonder if our creativity and empathy plays a part in all this.

Like everyone else, it's mainly just a very pleasant tingling in my head, but it's hard to pinpoint exactly where because it's as if its moving all around. I feel very relaxed when it happens. I feel like this calmness is just flowing into me - it's very surreal.

The main triggers are tutorials and when people are doing anything with a lot of concentration. (Like a child drawing me a picture). I also feel like the sensation is more intense when the action is FOR me. Like drawing a picture FOR me, or recently, my sister was using an app I had been telling her about and watching her use this app.. I got that tingling.

I recently just found a site dedicated to the research of all this. I really hope they find some answers and tell more people about this wonderful phenomenon.

    Siigh.

I think I might go watch some tutorials on youtube. Peace. [:

I have just joined up to say I also experience this, I have had it since I can remember, some of the triggers are, having my hair cut, watching people do things, painting, washing my car, DIY etc and people explaining things to me, the strongest one I had and the one I always remember Is when I was at school and a teacher was leaning over me and correct my work, when I do get them I can sometimes control them and make them last a bit longer before they fade away, my theory is its endorphins being released, i have tried ecstasy which gives nice feelings but no where near as nice as the natural head tingles, If somebody could create a pill that could trigger that feeling they could make a lot of money.

I am amazed! I have tried to explain this phenomenon to others and never could.

For me it started when I was very young. My cousin and I would trace the design on the song book at church with our fingers while the other held the book. I would get that tingly euphoric feeling. I would tell her afterward that when she traced the design while I held it that it made me feel "funny". That's all I could describe.

Since then (I am in my 40s), I have found some other triggers.

    -someone writing on a whiteboard
-when certain people talk (low talkers usually)
-if someone is drawing or really concentrating on something

There are others I am forgetting now. But like many of you I never want the feeling to go away!

I wish someone knew what it was.

It's called ASMR.. I get it when people with a slight lisp or distinctive voice speak, or when I watch tutorials on YouTube among other things. Not everyone has it! But I talked to my step-mom and she also gets this feeling. I find it enjoyable and I try to experience it as much as I can. Search ASMR on YouTube to find videos that induce this feeling, and I encourage you to Google ASMR to read more about this wonderful thing you have been blessed with.

Lol didwnt expect to find anything on it. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

Not sure i agree with the whole spiritual side of it.

I get this feeling mainly when i watch other people concentrate on things! I used to get it when i got my hair cut but not anymore.

It could be anything, some reaction in your head when you are captivated by another persons focus. Maybe a rush of blood due to the intense nature of the feeling.

I don't know, but just for my own piece of mind i want to throw this one out there, so that maybe i can create a link between this and the religious side of things,

Does ANYONE keep on seeing the digits 11:11.
Strange i know but its something that for years i keep noticing, for some reason every time i check the time its that time, or i look at the clock at a football match and its exactly that.... ive researched and apparently its some kind of religious angel looking down and letting people know they are there.

Sorry I'm off topic but it there is a religious connection i would like to know and that is the only connection i have, IF I BELIEVE it.
Im not religious at all believe more in science but if other people who get this AWSOME feeling also get this i would be interested to know.

    ENJOY THE FEELING

wow absolutely amazed I found this thread!
As most others here, I've had this feeling since childhood.
First experience I can remember is reading a book when I was 7-8, and now almost 20 years later it gets triggered sometimes by reading a good book (only very few out there that can have that effect), architecture, music, a painting, doing/participating in something good(whether it was doing well in school, work or just giving to charity), being in love, anything thats exceptional and can excite me. maybe its exceptional to me and maybe I feel so strongly about some things because of this feeling I've gotten, even if its just happened once.
but it doesn't always happen and I can't seem to control it, it just comes and goes whenever it wants to I think. Even just now when it happened less than an hour ago I was lying in bed thinking about something. But it's the most amazing feeling I know, it can start in my head or stomach and its a quick tingle, almost like a hot flash, going through my body up and down in an instant, it feels like someone just poured a bucket of water over my head... And it'd end in my feet and leave an ending tingle that makes me flick my toes. Sometimes it gives me goose bumps, depends how strong it gets. its so difficult to put words to it!!

been reading these post for the past 30-40minutes and I'm still amazed I found this, I tried explaining it to my family and some friends a couple years ago but no one understood what I was talking about. I dont even know what Im talking about for sure! At the time, I thought everyone probably got it, but instead just got strange looks so I stopped mentioning it to any one. I better start again and send a link to this site whenever I get another strange look in the future!
How lucky are we to get to feel something so amazing, whatever it may be!

Oh, this is so cool! I haven't read all the comments, so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I get a similar feeling sometimes, but it's in my back, or like over my shoulders or neck, it's hard to explain, and I get it when I see someone concentrate on something (or creating something, like drawing, as someone wrote), but most easily when the thing people are concentrating on is me myself or something somehow related to me, weird I know. Like, when I was a child and we went to the doctor, I felt the same thing, because everybody were concentrated on me, so I never wanted the visit to end, lol.

Just signed in just to comment. Didn't google it, just found this totally by accident. I have been aware I get this for a long time, but it was such a vague sensation that I never even considered sharing it with someone. But I, too, thought it happened only to me!!

I started thinking about it when this one time I was reading/checking/poring over something and a friend was watching ME. And he said, "You know, I have this weirdest feeling..." And I didn't even let him finish, because I knew what he was talking about.

I just want to add that I don't think it's related to watching people do things FOR YOU. It's more about people who are really concentrated and "surrendered" to the thing they're doing. But when the person is aware they're being watched it doesn't work for me: I mean, I got to a lot of classical concerts, where people are intensely concentrated, but they are hyper-aware of being watched, so I get nothing. My boyfriend is a pianist, and when I watch him play I don't get it, mostly because I know he knows I'm watching.

I usually get it with "strangers". Teachers checking my homework. My trainer at the gym designing my training set. A seamstress cutting fabric with scissors. People explaining things in a very slow, melodic tone (especially if I can hear mouth sounds!).

I think it's related to the fact that we think it's beautiful that the person is so vulnerable just with the love/attention they are giving something.

As to trying to find a common denominator, I would say I am also artistic. I am Literary Theory graduate student, and I love literature and theory. Also, I'm gay.

Oh my god! I commented below and said that I mostly get this sensation when people are very concentrated, and especially when concentrated on ME, but now that you said those examples -- I could almost feel it again just by you describing and referring to such situations! But I don't know if the person being unaware is the same for me, maybe, I haven't thought of it. Will have to think about it next time I get this feeling!

Oh man, I'm definitely glad I found this. I told one person about it and they had NO idea what I was talking about (maybe I just explained it poorly?), and ever since then I never asked anyone else about it. But i saw a comment on a youtube video of a person just talking where somebody said it gave them this feeling and i thought to myself "GOTTA LOOK IT UP NOW, I'M NOT ALONE". I used to fee like a complete freak for getting a pleasant feeling from just watching someone draw or listening to them talk, (drawing seems to be really common with everyone I've noticed). I also get it alot when kids are reading or showing and explaining things to me. I read that from a few of you also, so strange..

OMG - yes I get that too! But I really get the relaxing sensation more from hearing the sound of an industrial cleaning machine at work. I get to hear this at work sometimes and wish to hear it all day, it makes me feel so relaxed that I could do anything and not feel tense in doing so. I thought I was weird and just Google it to find out and not to be the only one which is great.

Hey guys. I get this sometimes as well. Has anyone heard of orgasmatron. It's this metal hand held massager that you put on your head and move it up and down. It has long metal like spikes that dig gently into your head and gives the best tingling sensation. Google it and maybe it will come up with a picture. I'm from Australia and I have one

Wow, I am so glad I found this. This is so incredible others have this feeling. I had always wanted to google this feeling and I finally did while currently on the end of this 'love buzz' as I call it.

The times I experience this feeling is the same as most of you. I can remember getting it when getting my hair cut at a salon/barber(I buzz my hair by myself now). I also get it when someone would explain something to me while using their hands. However, I'm pretty sure I use to get the feeling while around family members, but not as much now. I can remember getting the feeling alot when I would have someone explaining some homework solutions to me.

It always seems to come at a personal level. It is a relaxing feeling and is soothing and tingly like. Like a massage, but I use to have my g/fs give me a massage and they would say my muscles are so tense. I'm just like the rest of you all, its a feeling I never want to go away and I am always looking for ways to relive the feeling. I feel I have been able to extend the feeling just by concentrating on it, I can almost feel it go through my body. Its an unbelievable sensation. I wish someone could explain the natural cause of it.

Watching others draw seems to be common
with a lot of us.Ive also experienced this for as long as i can remember. My earliest memories are of my friends sister brushing my hair and not wanting it to end.I get the feeling particularly if im on a train or the underground and a girl next to or opposite me is applying make up. It can make a journey pass in no time, and im often quite disappointed that i reach my stop.
Its sounds a bit 'pervy' but i dont think its a sexual thing although you could maybe suggest its arousal of some kind.
    Im also very artistic

I have this feeling all the time! It's very much linked to sound for me. Normally I get it when there is a quiet sound but you don't have to strain to hear it. For example, I'm at university and I get the tingly head feeling whenever I am in a lecture and the lecturer has a crisp, quiet voice that you can hear because the room is silent, or when I'm in the library and you can hear every little sound.
I completely agree that it's non-sexual, even though it sounds like it should be arousing.
I'm studying neuroscience and I've never come across anything that could definately explain it. I really like Johnjoe McFadden's CEMI field theory of consciousness though, and it would be a small leap from his theory to propose that the brain's EM field could be depolarising sensory receptors in your scalp, causing the tingly sensation. Maybe it's something to do with a particular EM field conformation brought about by these situations people are describing?
In answer to the person who asked if people here were artists ages ago, I'm a musician and a sound engineer. I suppose that's quite arty?

This is a relief to find I'm not a complete freak and that there are others who experience exactly the same sensation.

I'm no artist, I have almost zero creativity (a point supported by how I dress). I find that it doesn't matter what the person I'm watching is doing as long as they are taking great care in doing it. I'm in my early 30's now and have had these sensations all my life but lately they are less common and don't last as long. I once watched someone doing calligraphy in silence with just the sound of the nib of the fountain pen in contact with the parchment, I almost had an out of body experience from that!

Although, as I mentioned, I'm no artist, watching "The Joy of Painting" with Bob Ross used to stimulate this feeling every time as he was very careful with his paintings and he spoke in a very mellow manner. Conversely I was prompted to search for you lot by a maintenance chap disassembling and reassembling a heavy duty printing machine.

I have only read through about 20 replies, has anyone got close to finding a physiological answer amongst the remainder?

I as well can relate to all of these comments. I wonder though if anyone has another sound related phenomenon, that I have as well, called 4S, or severe sound sensitivity, where the complete opposite occurs: a sense of panic, anger, the need to flee the situation usually brought on by eating sounds, scraping forks, popcorn eating in movie theaters, or certain "s" sounds in a person's speech patterns. It's amazing that sounds can both create such amazingly pleasurable experiences as well as such desperately awful sensations as well. Anyone else experience both?

Amazing... so glad I found this... have always wondered about it. Earliest I can remember was watching someone draw a picture for me when I was young... I have always been an artistic person and LOVE being in a colorful, graphic, vivid, aesthetically pleasing environment. I get this sensation EVERY EVENING when I watch my local weather man... he is not like most weather men who just whip through the report barely moving or looking at the audience... he is VERY animated... ALWAYS interacts so entertainingly with the different things that pop up in the background behind him... he exaggerates his movements and REALLY gets into it... feels like he is talking to his viewers personally and explains things in a way that makes it interesting and enjoyable to watch. I also get the sensation when talking to telemarketers or hearing/seeing people explain or demonstrate something to me in specific detail... it only happens when someone is being very genuine. It's really cool and I always thought I was the only one who gets it.... very awesome... glad I found you people! :o)

The earliest memory of this tingling sensation is when an old lady patted my head when I was about five years old.

I haven't talked about this to anyone and kept it to myself. It's quite a discovery that so many people also have this sensation, I've never heard anyone speak about this before!

I get the feeling when a person really cares about what they are doing and try to do everything in a proper way and put attention to little details. Sometimes just when someone talks in a really calm voice as if they are really putting thought into their tongue movements. I start to admire them and get all happy like and probably look like a vegetable to others while just standing there with a blissful face. I start to feel like everything is in the right place, enter a kind of slow-motion world, like I just want to lie down and curl up for forever.

But sometimes completely unrelated things trigger this sensation and it can make me feel like the tingling causes the calmness, not the other way around.

When it goes on for too long then I start to feel a little bit sick and it can get unpleasant.

I get this feeling too! I mostly get it when someone is doing something to me - playing with my hair, giving me a massage, anything that involves touching me (not in a sexual way). I also get it sometimes when somebody is asking me a series of questions (like a survey), or when I'm teaching one on one and the student is explaining how they're working out a problem.
I love it! And sometimes I can recreate it (playing with my own hair, etc.). I've had it as long as I can remember, I used to get it when I was a little kid and other kids would draw on my back or braid my hair.
    Best feeling ever.

i have had the feeling for as long as i can remember, and i come about when i am watching someone do something while really focussed, or listening to certain sounds.

Sounds such as a paint brush painting, or the sound of a pencil writing on paper while i have my ehad to the table, these things give me that tingly feeling.

    (continued)

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned that I tried just to try it one night: Moving the sensation around. In fact, I went a step further. I wanted to make sure the results weren’t part of my imagination or something so I didn’t say anything to anyone at the time, but I suspended any disbelief in what I was trying. Here’s what happened:

My wife and I were lying in bed watching TV when she mentioned she had a headache. I happened to be feeling that tingle from something we were watching and got the idea to try and ‘move’ it to her to see if her headache got better. I closed my eyes and concentrated really hard. I pictured what I imagined “waves of energy” looking like and I focused on moving them from the base of my head down my neck and arm, out of my hand and into her head all while focusing on positive, loving thoughts. As soon as I felt like I had accomplished this, she looked over and asked me what I did. I said, nothing, why? And she said her headache just went away. I was shocked. Thought maybe it was a coincidence so I did it a separate time a few weeks later and it worked again. Still could be a coincidence or exaggeration...I am a logical thinking person most times and I liked facts, evidence, reasoning etc. So I kind of still don't believe it. Any thoughts or experiences with this?

It's a great feeling.

I hope people are still watching this post, I'm very excited that other people get this feeling! I inherited it from my mother, She and I felt like the only people in the world!

I get it most strongly from having my hair gently played with, but also strongly from beautiful music, usually stuff in minor, watching people paint or get makeup put on and thinking about all those things. I downloaded tons of Bob Ross videos and watch them when I am not feeling well and it puts me in a trance. The sound of the paintbrush against the canvas is amazing.

I agree that watching someone concentrate seems to evoke the feeling too. And I definately have gotten it from people cleaning as well.

I don't know if anyone's still watching this post but I think what is happening is just your head/brain relaxing from stress and the blood vessles and muscles in the back of you head and neck have relaxed and increased blood flow which is that tingly feeling. Watching other people concentrating and doing things for you, listing to someone whisper and getting you hair cut (basically massaging your scalpe) call all tringer this peaceful relaxed feeling. It's a physical response and I have it too. Even while reading the comments on this post.

I think everyone has had it, they just haven't all noticed it yet so they don't think about it.

i have been gettin this feelin since i was about 8 (25 now) triggers are when someone i dont really know is showing me something .

i would say its somethin with the serotonin glande releasing endorphines for some unknown reason or something chemical like that .

i used to get a very similar thing with certain ecstacy pills when i took them back in the days ( not any more cos i got pretty messed up... i was lucky). The mdma in ecstacy releases a big hit of serotone when your high and you get a very similar wave effect.

would love it if scientists research this so glad i am not abnormal

I think a lot of us do! The ASMR Facebook group is growing, (I think I mentioned on this thread already, but it stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response - a term we've used for reference to both controlled and uncontrolled sensations) and we've just created a team of people all interested in getting a real study done on the phenomenon. If anyone here is interested in helping, your stats and comments are a big first step in quantifying this and getting clinical researchers interested - drop by, join up, and help us figure it out! We're also sharing triggers, and just enjoying a little, rare company (like-headed as we are :D) - everyone is welcome.

We should also very soon have a legitimate research site running - a link will follow once we get the information and front page up.

    Hey :)

Like many others i found this forum and was totally shocked to find out that many others felt this feeling of such pleasure, also the reason as to why i signed up for this page.

I, like many others, get this feeling when someone is explaining something to you in a personal situation. I get this feeling very intensely when someone is like touching you or something, like a whole sense of euphoria that just tingles my head in extreme pleasure, but i think many others get this... Also I seem to feel its the noises in a quiet situation that trigger this, like if someone is sharpening pencils or drawing in a quiet situation i get this feeling, and to be honest I love it, although i cant seem to trigger it myself by perhaps watching a video, just certian situations trigger it. I dont really seem to get the emotional side of people's theory, i feel like the sounds of the particular moment provide this euphoric feeling, but i could be wrong I JUST LOVE IT!!

I am however not really arty or a good drawer so im not sure about the creativity link I just find the whole matter fascinating. And if a specific reason or term could be said as to why this happened to certian people it would be good because i really want to understand! I've tried explaining this to many people but no-one understands me.

I too have had this, remember being a child (about 8) and my friend whispering something to me and feeling it and have regularly had it since (aged 23 now).

I get the feeling when there is a cool breeze also, which is great and makes it easy to recreate :D

Whispering, loved revising in the library because of this.

I also get quite alot of bad headaches, not sure but its probably not to do with this,

Also when someone is explaining something to me, love it, makes me tingle.

when im feeling all 'head nice' its good to gently run my fingers on my arms.

Also i spoke to my brother and he says he also gets this.

I am SO glad that I found this site. My brother and I were speaking about this because none of our friends/family ever understood what this undescribable sensation was. I'm so relieved to know that we aren't the only ones- and that we aren't crazy!

Also in regards to previous posts about being creative- I would believe that. Most of the time it's triggered by watching someone do something and most creative people seem to be visual people also.

I would love to see someone do a study on this situation because it's an awesome feeling- and there HAS to be a name or explanation for it.

Relieved to find out other people have this; even more relieved to find the Bob Ross stash on YouTube that I now get high with before I start work. I suppose I'd class myself as artistic in that I read, own Criterion Collection DVDs and review music whenever I'm off shift, but I don't wear corduroy trousers and have never once paid more than three pound for a coffee.

For me, the "jacuzzi feeling" takes the shape of a fizzy crucifix imprinted around my shoulderblades and running down to my forearms (if I was religious I'd check my palms for stigmata, but all I've got there are callouses from years of opening pallets). I used to think the feeling was either a) embarrassment b) a whiteboard fetish c) flashbacks to ravey chemicals, but maybe it's something more neural, and if it turns out I don't just need haircuts to trigger it I'll happily grow my grade one out. I'm a screenwriter (budding), and have written a ten-minute short about the feeling called Goose Looping. I wouldn't know how to get it made or anything like that (though I reckon the soundtrack should be The Feeling), but if anyone wants to read it let me know.

This sensation you are all explaining and I myself have had since I can remember is very similar to the effects the Pill commonly known as "Ecstasy" or in medical terms "MDMA" had on me in my teenage years. Although the mental effects of MDMA (Euphoria and well being) were either exaggerated or not the same, the physical effects were definitely very similar; Tingling pin pricks in my head and neck, hairs on the back of my neck standing up, all things you have all explained. I am 34 years old and still get this feeling regularly, most of the time when i am watching youtube, in fact i have become a youtube unboxing watchaholic as this feeling i get comes back while watching them. God bless you all.

Anyone else find that foriegn accents or emails from people whos english isnt perfect can set this off? Thats the main trigger for me. For example this email I once got:

I agreed instantly with eddyydde's comments about the triggers and then couldn't stop reading all these posts (although I don't know what bodwin's on--still, seems to mean well).
I'm a creative person, and one of the first triggers I remember as a child was watching a friend slowly drawing. I also used to love university lectures involving a dark room, a slide show/media presentation, and a professor explaining works of art. These were so intense...although I was barely taking in the information, I didn't want it to end. Haircuts/someone playing with my hair always does it (I think this one must be terribly common, maybe even among those who don't get it any other way).
Lately I've been watching a fantastic video series, and many of the talks provoke this feeling. Great, interesting talks, and I recommend this site to anyone regardless of whether or not they trigger the feeling: http://www.ted.com/. So many different topics. Something there for everyone.
If this exact sensation came in pill form I'd be an addict. For a brief moment of this "braingasm" (or whatever you like to call it) there is extreme calm, everything is alright.

Like Xivilai I had a sudden whim to look this up on the net.

Thank God there are others like me. I did mention it to my brother and he gets the same sensation!! It was a relief to know it wasn't just me or him!!

I've been getting it since I was young, when the teacher drew chalk on the board.

It happens when someone is inspecting something, packing, or being delicate with something. It's like an invisible sound, that doesn't make sense I know!!

But voices, especially on the phone can set it off, not friends but strangers, i'm on the phone alot for work and it happens alot. Whispering as well.

When I watch the window cleaner wipe the excess water off with the wiper, the cleaner wiping the desks.

The hairdressing one seems to be common, I get it then especially when she uses the clippers around the back of my neck!

I imagine it's the feeling a dog gets when you scratch the top of it's head!

As others have said it's not sexual at all just a really nice feeling!!

So glad to have come out!!! Keep the faith Brothers and Sisters!!!

I have a theory on this "feeling". I believe what we are experience is the same feeling one experiences during hypnosis. The symptoms are pretty much the same and it's usually triggered by an event in which we concentrate heavily upon. It's the same idea in order to hypnotize a person using a voice or object. Some kind of sound or event relaxes our mind and we fall into a pseudo hypnotic state. We don't want to move since the state goes away. We are not in a full hypnotic state, but mearly the beginning stages.

Also, forgot to add, I am also a creative person. And empathetic towards animals, while being cynical to the human race.

    Gonzo:

"I believe that animals are the only true innocent living things on the planet. When one becomes conscious, they are no longer running on instinct, which means they can be held accountable for their actions.

I don't pretend to be an angel though. I know I'm just as much of a douchebag as the next guy, what makes me different is that I can acknowledge and admit the fact.

    After all, I'm only human."

    I completely agree.

I would love to believe that this sensation somehow makes us unique or whatever but it is starting to look slightly more normal than not.

That being said, Bodwin, I think you are just lucky enough to feel it much more strongly than most of us which is why you think of it so much more profoundly. I mean look at you...throughout all your posts you can barely type so I gather that you get it much more intensely.

I'd still like to think we are special or that there is something in common with what we are all feeling but I doubt it is as big a deal as you are making it.

Unbelieveable. I too feel the same as others on this thread. I get it when I am getting my hair cut, or when the windowcleaner is washing my windows. I also get it when someone I do not know closely is playing with my hair, and from random actos of kidness from strangers and people I do not know very well.

There's a trend in these comments that people do not get it from their significant others or family or people they are close to, which seems to suggest that it definately comes from strangers and people we are not so close to. This could suggest it comes from our usual low-faith in humanity being challenged through a kind act, an empathy for something we never really thought existed or had little faith in.

Like others on here, I don't get it when watching TV or google, however I have a backround in TV and film and have always thought of both sides of the camera.Perhaps this is to do with how different people's subconsciousness perceive television. I have studied it and work on sets, so the illusion is broken for me.

Someone said it had only been noticed really recently so it's a recent thing. I don't agree, I think it's always happened but was too rare to be really to be documented or understood because its hard to explain to anyone who doesn't get it, however the internet has changed that. All we had to do is type in how our feelings and symptoms into google, and we found this post. This option never existed in the past.

Hello, I also experience this feeling, but only when I watch someone concentrate, I work in a grocery store, and if I happen to be in the same isle as a customer who is concentrating intently on an item I get this strange euphoric feeling that is hard to explain, but I never want it to end, I see others experience it for a variety of reasons, but I only experience this sensation when watching others concentrate, and listening to the quiet little noises they mite make, The only way I have ever been able to trigger this feeling on command is by watching cirtain scenes of movies over and over again, the one that seems to work the most for me is David Cronenbergs "CRASH" There is a short scene where one man examines the injuries of another man, this scene triggers the sensation for me every time.

Just to check in and say I am another who feels this.

There is an old man who sells me sheet music of the classical repertoire. EVERY time I buy something from him I get the feeling. He is so careful with the way he handles the music and it touches me deeply every time I see it.

I agree with the empathy/concentration thing. For me, the most powerful trigger is being helped or taught by someone. I get it when reading, and I feel I am being taught by the writer: being taught by another has something to do with it. I am a musician, I wonder if the `creativity' hypothesis is correct above? Also, I am very `intense' and think deeply a lot. However, I think this feeling is primarily to do with PEOPLE. When someone else touches my head, not me, I get the feeling.

I have just signed up and called myself `interdependency' because I think this is what this feeling arises from: the (subconscious) realisation that we are dependent on each other for our own survival/wellbeing.

One last thing: Despite having this feeling fairly regularly, I am also going through a long-term depressive phase. Are there any others out there who are depressed in the long term but, even so, have moments of sublime happiness found through this feeling of `good mind'?

Yes. Me. I have had this feeling for as long as I can remember and have a couple comments posted above.
My first bout of depression was about 4 years ago and has been on and off to varying degrees since then but I still get this sensation all the time from many different things.
I'm also stuck with how thought-oriented all these comments seem to be and I suspect that we all do have something more than this wonderful sensation in common.

I used to be badly depressed in my teens for about 3 years, and I still get it seasonally in winter. I too get it when being helped / shown something / hair played wit etc. I'm not buying all this religious / psychic / spritualism crap - it's obviously some chemical produced when we feel empathy with other people, perhaps still existing in some of us from when we were lesser animals living in groups.

Hey =) Idk if anyone else is still commenting on this thread but I have some input as well and I registered just to comment on this particular topic. I used to have this happen to me all the time while growing up I am now 23 yrs old and for me it usually occurred when someone was playing with my hair or telling me something nice about myself or taking a particular interest in one of my crafts/talents. I sing sometimes and I also get this feeling when I hear other talented singers singing with feeling and it's one of the best feelings. It is a tingly sensation in the back of your head from the base of your neck and travels up all over your brain. I never felt I had control over it and I always told my family about it which usually they agreed with because most of them are highly sensitive we also all are mainly females =). I still get this feeling when watching Michelle Phan do her make up tutorials on youtube or when I encounter someone who does something nice for me as well. I dont judge people who have experiences like this and other kinds because scientific or not I do believe we all have special qualities most that can't be explained. But thats why they're special. No, I'm not weird lol =). Good Luck to everyone trying to figure this out..hope they coin a term and continue on researching this topic, it's interesting.

I despise most human beings also, but have all the love in the world for animals. I should've just said SMART & CIVILIZED are our common denominators. And you're definitly right that we are more observant and aware than others. That's a given.

      Yes, very much so.

I believe that animals are the only true innocent living things on the planet. When one becomes conscious, they are no longer running on instinct, which means they can be held accountable for their actions.

I don't pretend to be an angel though. I know I'm just as much of a douchebag as the next guy, what makes me different is that I can acknowledge and admit the fact.

Poster above me is on the right path, I think. However, I get this feeling and I am in no way empathetic. I really couldn't care less what happened to people.

    However.

I do think that we are more observant, and aware than the "normal" people.

Like Sheepshank said, we have a different rhythm than most people. I think we are the more open minded ones. Perhaps the few whose minds are not clouded by modern day issues and technology, not to say we don't love modern day technology.. It just hasn't taken us over and made us forget our, instinct?

  • 52pokerkang

    YES!!! This is awesome!

In my opinion, I betcha that everyone that is lucky enough to have this "whatever" are ALL SMART, CIVILIZED, EMPATHETIC PEOPLE. Hard to explain my theory,,, jus what I suspect.

My earliest memory of this AWESOME feeling was when I was in the 3rd grade and we were all learning to write cursive. Every morning, a few students would have to go up in front of the class and write. I used to just sit there...IN ECSTASY!!!

Always thought it was extremely strange, but now that I read all the other responses,, I only think its mildly strange. lol

2 things that really trigger it 4 me these days... watching the cleaning people at my work, getting my shoes shined, and of course a hair-cut. Once as a kid I actually fell asleep while getting a haircut because I was in such a transe!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Gonzo

Oh, also be aware that you can forget how to do it. I think it has to do with the open-mindedness of children, and if you stop doing it you will just eventually forget about it and your brain will forget how to do it. So try to remember it and trigger it every now and again.

I've discovered something. I have been experimenting with this feeling for about 2 years now, seeing what I can do with it. And like most of you, one of the easiest ways of getting this feeling is by watching someone draw.

Well, I found out that I can "control" what they draw, to an extent. Its not like controlling their hand movements or anything, but I can subconsciously (yet on purpose) take their drawing into a specific direction, or tone.

Like others, I had to sign up so I could reply to this. No one I know understands it. I get the feeling when someone helps me do something and when my hair is played with. I just got it on the phone because the person was very calm and understanding.

When I was in high school I had a math teacher who let me check his mail for him. Every day when he wrote the note and handed it to me my head whatstart to tingle. I would hold on to that feeling as long as I could. I wish I felt it every day now but it seems to be rarer the older I get.

    This is BIG, amazing fantastic!!!

Hello all! Finally! I am so happy and excited to see how many others have experienced this awesome state! Im not alone!!! i knew I wasnt, looks like convergence and rendezvous is on its way everyone! Times are changin and people like use are destined to meet!

About me, I am about to turn 26, ive been experiencing this feeling for about 11 years now. In my attempts to ask what this feeling is about to the people throughout my life (friends, family, etc.) nobody had any idea what I was talking about.

It happens to me every day, my triggers are:

%%u2022 Emotional, (empathy).. i definitely feel this when I know what im hearing or saying is relevant to the person im with.
Emotional too when I feel happy about making plans or im working on my art, or when Im listening to a documentary about the consciousness movements from alternative media.

%%u2022 Music - Bjork for sure, its the electronica/ trance/ ambient genre's that are available to us in this generation. Also, older styles of music like tibetan singing bowls, native american chanting, all those things do it for me, and that kind of sound in some hindi music where the two different sounds make the third tone in the middle of the head.

I've read... a lot of reading. Over the course of many years of research finding these matches based on the keywords describing this experience, and with finding that there are hints at these explanations to this feeling. I felt like yes, it is an absolute blissful awesome experience, and at this point its become so normal to me. I felt like it has a deeper purpose, some way of utility to integrate this into what its leading into.

My biggest question is what would happen when two or more people who have this "ability" were together? I feel like something amazing and awesome would happen.

I have to say this... I feel it has a connection with the great unseen etheric metaphysical quantum whatever you wanna call it, outside our spectrum of our physical limitations.

Here's an example... how do you explain what color is to a person who can only see in black and white? and then all of a sudden one day the people who can see color figured out how to flick a "switch" within the black and white person. How miraculous it would seem to that individual, and the people who can see in color are glad and grateful to have done this for that individual. It had something to do with the limitations of the spectrum with the black and white person I theorize.

Kundalini - Yoga and Tantra propose that this energy can be "awakened" by Guru, but body and spirit must be prepared by yogic austerities such as pranayama, or breath control, physical exercises, visualization, and chanting. It rises from muladhara chakra up a subtle channel at the base of the spine (called Sushumna), and from there to top of the head merging with the sahasrara, or crown chakra. The awakening is not a physical occurrence. It consists exclusively of development in cons

I bet we might make something magnificent happen, like make objects levitate, bring other ppl's mind into peace, by touching them.

Im just guessing, but it seems like we MIGHT be psychics that can help spread good and kindness and stuff, since this massage happens whenever we are at peace and calm.

It also occurs, when someone explains something to me in a calm peaceful manner, at that point i stop listening to them, and just focus on the massage feeling in my brain.

I just decided to call this feeling "Pulse Cranium", its like my brain is expanding, but tingling inside, similar to the feelings when my arms and legs fall asleep.

I don't know what this is, but i would like to know too. I posted a vid asking for help, so plz help me.

It happens to me quite often when someone uses something of mine such as my pen, or when someone is explaining something to me. It's weird I get it when I watch someone showing me something in a book. There are many instances from it, but I was shocked to find others. Once this occured and the sensation was so strong that I actually lost binocular vision and went into a kind of hypnotic trance where I could barely speak! Some individuals, for whatever reason, have the ability to do this more than others, even though they may not be aware of it. Curiously, religious types or zealots of one kind or another appear to have it more often - a kind of assuredness that what they are saying is the absolute truth or a kind of precision and purposefulness in their actions. Is it charm, charisma, magnetism? I am certain though that it has more to do with sounds, certain noises are triggers for me such as anyone who speaks in a whispy way or who pauses and breathes rhythmically, has certain personal mannerisms involving the face, mouth or tongue, or performs certain daily routines/rituals in a stylised, thoughtful way. I also think that, as the feeling starts in the back of the head/neck area, it is the primitive part of the brain that is activated, but I could be wrong. It's like my mind has been hijacked, but I want to go along with it!

Very hard to pin this thing down! Definately worthy of study!

I thought I was so weird for getting this, thank god it's so normal. I distinctly remember getting it for the first time. I was in first grade and there was a boy drawing a circle on the board, concentrating really hard on making it perfect. I get it when
I see someone concentrating and very focused
I see someone putting a lot of thought in choosing something, like a book from a shelf or an item from a menu
    Sometimes from "How to" videos
It happens not nearly enough because it is a great feeling. I try not to move. I would describe it as a rush of blood to the skin in my scalp maybe? So hard to describe but I am so glad I found this page and that so many other people get this for the same reasons.

I have no idea what this feeling is, and I'm trying desperately to re-create it! Some say endorphins, some say it's a tumor (Which I highly doubt). I've been spending a lot of time lately trying to find a trigger, but so far the closest I've come is watching someone solving a rubix cube blindfolded, and that only gives a faint feeling. Does anyone have any secret way to trigger it for sure?

What a great feeling it is finding this page - almost as good as the tingly, fuzzy buzzing feeling I get (and many of us on here get too).

The feeling for me is most intense when I hear somebody speak in a very gentle voice. I too get it when people call me for market research. I love it so much that I don't actually concentrate on what they are asking me!

I try and enter things so that I get more of these calls! How sad is that?!

I also get this feeling when I watch someone do something like packing a bag - but it almost always has to be in a calm, relaxing environment such as a library, and I assume that the person must have a gentle, calming aura about them for them to give me *that* feeling.

It feels so good to find people also have this pleasant sensation. I have been googling it for ages but because of the way I describe the sensation, I only get websites which diagnose epilepsy!

Many thanks to the original poster and everyone who has shared their experiences.

be cautious, heroin blocks it/ stops it entering yer body, it somehow shuts that part of brain down, i know 10 yrs smack addiction (after kundalini...how mad!!!ive missed ten yrs of workin on it) you will never feel the kundalini on smack, infact....the only ones that dont override it are grass n achohol (when not too pissed) evry other drug overrides it.but x switches it on (id consider taking it very unwise as its false, not natural, but i found x much less damaging than k coke or speed...in short, drugs fuk with yer brain chemestry so i wudnt touch em......but u gotta do what yer gonna do....at 30 ive finaly waved goodbye to all of it.....

oh theres lots more in the line of symptoms/ things that cause it......people like bjork sing about it......all is full of love, wiked video....and big time sensuality....all the lyrics she trys to get you awake...as i said just communicating it helps amplify it....you instantly get wiser wen in the zone.....oh goldfrappe as well, look at happiness, utopia ect, she gets it too, i think.
...but other stuff to do :)

dont u all find that jus talking about it........researching it, wakes it up?????
just aknowledging it wakes (connects) it.

jus to add my symptoms of what makes me connect

    teachers
1st as a kid in primary school....for some reason some teachers (the good, unconditional ones) are sooo good at gettin yer head buzzing..... at art school in the early 2000's one teacher was so good id never listen to a word he said, cos i was so busy "gettin off" offa his vibe, dam that stuff wud run down me head to me feet...

    hairdresser..
i reckon the reason for this is as the hairdresser is not only focusing on yer head, but you would b opposite a mirror which helps reflect n amplify the energy.

    listening to music.
switch off, belong in the now, n do what i like to call "surfing sound waves"......feels gud dunnit! the more you like the tune, the better, as itll zone you out better.

having an amazing appriciation for nature, trees, flowers ect.....it was wen lookin out the french windows of house at amazig view (im lucky) that i had my kundalini....now this i think important.....this is as i wasnt getting it off another person/music stymulous/any outside influence........all the other ways of eeling this energy stuff (its tinglin in me head now) were human based...ie created by humans or got directly from human behaviour (music.)
nature is a force outside of us so the connection reaches the next, higher potential.......

i now always walk with a perma grin on me face.....i once saw a lady on london tube who had the very same perma grin....u can tell it cos it looked peaceful....i was only a teenager, n always regret not askin "you can feel it better than me!" but diddnt av confidence in meself or me ability......
you guys its everywhere.....damb i even got it when teenager (not dun 4 ages i swear) n used to webwank with other folk.....thats why even thou religions touch on it....they all seem mixde up in beurocracy n red tape...cos all this thing cares about is positive, charged behaviour......itd b a sin in christ....but no....this one dosnt care if i wank....or if im gay! cool!

I LOVE that so many people experience this. And I wish that everyone could could share this. If we could get someone the a scientific society to view this, perhaps we could get someone to start researching it and providing us with answers and what this might be. If you know anyone talk to them and see if we can get something started. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences. It's truly made my morning. :)

I have also been getting this since I was a kid and I just watched the weather and got it while being told there is a chance of possible snow! How weird! Love the feeling and glad to see I am not totally abnormal!

    Sweet Jesus I'm not alone.

I get the same feeling when someone runs their fingers through my hair, but I think this is common.

The weird trigger is when some people speak ,like a teacher explaining something,

or the little clicks from a mouse wheel or keyboard, if their is no other sound.

Im glad to have foundthis page. I had tried to describe this to someone before to no avail. It certainly seems some sort of an emphatic reponse as it seems to happen when observing other people work or do something. Someone demonstrating or teaching me something usually causes it. Not in a group situation but usually one on one. It's a very strange sensation. like waves of positivity washing over the neck and back of head. Very pleasant feeling. I'm surprised there is not a scientific explanation for it, or doesn't seem to be. It's no doubt chemical and possibly the observation of someone teaching or working releases serotonin or endorphin or some sort of brain chemicals. It's like a natural high. I think it can be considered normal enough if so many on here describe exactly the same triggers and symptoms of the sensation. It's very difficult to explain to someone who does not know this sensation. Maybe its like the natural nirvana state that buddists can tap into. It's the most pleasant non sexual feeling I think is possible. I hope to find out more. If anyone finds a scientific or medical term for the physiological happenings, please do reposnd. thanks
    J

Dude I know every one said this already but it
Is cool to know I'm not the only one feeling this
And every one I tell looks at me like I'm NOT NORMAL
And it is a bad ass feeling I get this from watching
Myoko an asian american chick she makes me get the feeling
Its just the way she talks and makes the "S" whistle
And when I'm feeling it its almost as if I took something
To get me the feeling cuz its strong even my eyes
Start tripping kinda like getting up real fast after lying
Down for a lil while you know.

I don't think its synaesthesia. I did a little research and although there are varying forms, synaesthesia seems to revolve around colors. What we are talking has more to do with the feeling we get when observing high levels of concentration. I personaly think that when people concentrate on something it emits an energy that we sort of pick up on. It seems out there and trust me I am not an "artsy" person but it has to do with the transfer of energy of some kind. There is literally no research online about this condition which is frustrating.

i dont think this is a common thing for people as iv asked family and a few friends and they have no idea what im on about, this should definetly be looked into if it hasnt been already.

  • FlakeyFoont

I get it too, for most of the things listed above, like watching someone concentrate, or having my head touched, etc.

I also notice it especially when my wife is cutting fabric. The rhythm of the shears kicks it off and it feels good. I've also experienced it when people are clipping their nails, which I know bugs a lot of people, but for me it sometimes sends this signal.

I randomly looked up this feeling expecting to find loads about it, because I've had it since I was a kid and I was curious to see what it was. This is the only thing I've found! It's not something which is talked about either, weirdly, but I do think it is quite common. For me, I get it with haircuts, watching people draw, etc as well, but it doesn't always work if the sound is not present. It's something to do with the sound and the motion together. And I think it also may have to do with concentration. I'd love to know if this has ever been studied, and if it hasn't why not? Anyway, it is a lovely feeling!

It is incredibly difficult to describe other than a sense of pleasure from observing (visually/audibly) people who exhibit a high level of concentration on something. I work in a position where I'm basically be sold things all day and once in a while I'll get the sensation when a sales guy is describing the intricate characteristics of the product. So its def not all visual (at least for me). Its like the anti-OCD because I actually get the feeling watching a guy clean his desk rigoursly (who has OCD) every day at work at the same time.. If we figure out a better way to describe it I think theres a better chance of figuring out what is going on..

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • bison10

Yup I get the same thing. Eddyydde I agree with your 4 reasons exactly. Shireboy, the cleaning story rings a bell also as I like to watch the cleaning people clean every day at work. So weird I know - but WHAT is it? I remember being 6 years old and watching kids color in the lines because it gave me the same feeling. Not sexual at all just like a rush/lightheadedness and the hairs standup on my arms. Diagnosis please.....

you lot do you realise theres a combination of how lucky we are yet also being suseptable to this because of our genuine nature....i think we all need to stick around to guide each other through this....im in the process of making a collage of music videos ect that all explain this (bjork has deffinately been through the....hummm...what shall i call it....the beggining of the "full transformation"....i am at this stage....(as i said before...a tiny tiny baby step ahead of you guys)....as i said...this thing has intelligance...it will give you more and more the more you cultavate it, untill a time will come (as it did with me) where it will floor you...what happens that day (as hopefully it will for all of you)for me it was after 20 years of these glimpses were all having, a lightning bolt of divine electricity made out of unconditional love will strike the very core of your body, my feet collapsed from under me and my body and soul was overtaken by this power...imagine what your feeling through these glimpses times a million...for ten minits i was on the floor laughing, crying (positive tears)...and ....well...it felt like nothing in the english dictionary....utopia, rapture..call it what you will....and after this experiance...your body opens up to it in a way where you can begin to develop it at will....control it at will.....but it has its rules....appriciation....empathy...goodness.....to be honest...im not religeous in the orginised sence...and would never condone giving in to the fuked up blatant wrongness of many of the messages in the religeous texts...but the main points, once you boil it down to the few bits of what holds true...is right...rejecting the blazze novelty of a lot of consumerist capitalism (this system was designed to keep us drunk in products ect to keep us easyer to control) being alturistic in nature...while still having to keep up with pop culture in all forms...jus to keep sanity...but its like im doin it from an outside perspective, rather than being consumed from within by all personal DESIRES...thats important....keeping check on your desires....do you waste time desiring that car..that person, coffee machine, sterio, lamp, table sofa??? as i said..we all need these things,n the last thing id wanna be is turning in2 sum sorta ned flanders character, but we need to keep perspective over whats important...this thing..this divine energy...i believe..really wants us to completely give ourselfs to it...idealy our society would focus on every action, bit of work, being done for others...we'd constantly be supporting one another to enhance the vibration (realise our structure at the mo is the complete opposite, n designed to personal accumilation and personal gain...is this accident or by design???) i think we all on this page understand all of this deep in our core...you guys...i dont do conspiracy stuff ect...but perhaps the mayans were on2 summot(2012)...i think a time has come where we are shifting....the resonance of

rite if you lot read this far well done....seems from what ive researched from just tonight......were coming to the end of one stage of evolution....but there seems plenty of time left still......kinda like reflecting the message of both them bjork songs.......
seems we need to "kill" off the ego to get to the next level, but there seems lots of disadvantages too to awakening early, like having to feel all the pain intended for you to go through on the final stages of this timeline evolutionary state.....
....i dunno guys...as i sed im only a baby step ahead of you lot but ive also been getting this side affect i read in a really interesting webpage (not yet finished reading.)

    I experienced such humming, only as an occasional sound during awakening. Others sounds included beautiful mystical sounds like tinkling glass wind chimes; short, immensely loud discordant blasts, like the powerful, loud BUZZZ you get when a microphone jack is only part-way plugged into a PA system;
but on this 1 page im readin
