  • I was supposed to have the surgery on the 26th, but it was delayed until the 31st due to an issue with my insurance.

I was provided the options of limb reconstruction surgery or have a limb amputation from a few inches above my knee. Due to the price of limb reconstruction surgery, I opted for amputation. Something I did not take lightly.

    • Hope you can get a kickass prosthesis.

Or are you the type of person who would rather do their best to hide the amputation?

Either way best of luck with the surgery and recovery.

    • I don't know what else to say, but that that sounds intense, and that I imagine the sense of loss is/will be very real. I wish you all the very best.

    • Thanks for letting us know. I was not aware that they had a leg reconstruction option. Nice to know that medicine has advanced for this kind of cancer so at least its an option.

      I'm pulling for you...

      • I believe it's also referred to as a limb salvage surgery. I'm sure the internet could explain it better than I can but it allows for a bone graft to be used to save most of the surrounding tissue. (As well as the leg.)

It unfortunately was outside of my price range but I was suprised when it was an option provided to me.

        • How much money was it going to cost?

          • After insurance paid for part of the cost, I would have been paying 55,000 USD out of pocket. Between rent, student loan debt, and that; I would be miserable.

I don't want to lose my leg but I don't want to ruin my life financially.

            • I understand your dilemma. You have my support for your choice. In reality, either choice is a much better option than dying.

            • Idk about interest rates on this but a 30 year loan would cost $151 a month without considering the interest. Thats not TOO bad. And if you miss payments what are they gonna do, take the leg? Id just not pay it if I didnt have the money.

            • Side weird question.

Do you want to keep the amputated leg or the bones/ashes.

If I got a limb cut off I would want to have it still in my possession. Idk make a necklace out of the bones if possible.

Its morbid but it's still you, well apart of you.
