What would you do if your iq suddenly dropped below 70?

Would you try to mimic your smart self's thought process as best as you could, or would you give up in frustration and start drinking heavily?

"Start" drinking? How do you think my IQ dropped so low in the first place?

Being stupid is like being dead: it doesn't bother you, and the pain is only felt by those around you.

(One of the few memes I've come across that I've found worth remembering.)

However, the OP asks about a hypothetical situation where intelligence is suddenly lost, and that's not the same as being born dumb.

The IQ bell curve means the vast majority of people have an IQ that's between 80 and 120. If you're on the lower edge of that range, then it's possible you wouldn't even notice a decline to 70. But if you had an IQ far above 120 and you retain memories of being much more able in many ways, then that would be very difficult to deal with.

Hang around iin and it will indeed drop to those levels.

Anything remotely near 70 would be a vast improvement 😂

I'm already well below average so my choice would be "no change".

If my iq suddenly dropped to 70... I'd become a politician, or a EU legislator in Brussels!

I believe being a retard is a requirement to work for the Bulgarian government, or come up with new laws for all of Europe.

If I'm still too clever for either of those positions, there is always mumble rap...

  • Hopefully with an IQ of 70 I'd still be coordinated enough to kill myself, lol.

There would be no mimicking my smarter self, at least, not to any effective extent with a borderline retarded level IQ. No matter what, I'd always be a shell of who I used to be, which in my case, might be a shell of a shell.

Drinking away my worries might be enjoyable at first, but alcohol is no healing balm. Not only does it not fix the nagging underlying issues, but you also usually have to keep drinking more and more alcohol once your body learns to handle the buzz.

Once my liver and my general health started to dive from all the heavy drinking, I would no longer even be able to feel good.

Also, I imagine that drinking combined with really low IQ would make make me extremely obnoxious to other people.

Once my liver and general health start to dive from all the heavy drinking I do, I'll be a decrepit old man and it'll be time to go anyway.

      • True, but you'd suffer on the way out.

If your IQ dropped to that level, you'd be too dumb to genuinely worry about it anyway. Planning ahead and long-term thinking would become a thing of the past. You'd lead a more carefree life wherein you'd mostly think about eating, pooping, sexing, and getting government checks.

That low and you wouldn't know the difference. So forget about it.

I feel like if someone's iq drops then it was low to begin with and they probably recently encountered someone smarter for the first time; and pretending to be smarter is realistically pretending to be that person who influenced them.

Or if someone has a brain injury or develops a neurological illness with extreme effects, then I can see them feeling as though they need to get back to their former selves, but even then their iq would still be the same because of the memory of who they once were and everything learned; otherwise if they lost their memory then this person probably wouldn't care because they're a completely new person now; unless friends/family continuously remind/mourn who they once were.

However, your choices are oddly specific...

If this happens to me I probably wouldn't be intelligent enough to be bothered with the two options you have provided. I probably would start watching more television.

Well I don’t think you’d have that much of a problem with it then
Not saying dumb people are happier but I don’t think you’d be able to grasp everything in a way that it bothers u as much as when you were smart
Around 60/70 was mentally retarded, wasn’t it? Well a mild case of it, but it would count as one

I'd love to experience that if it wasn't permanent. Obviously if it was permanent then it'd be absolutely devastating, but I'd love to see what it'd be like if it was only for a day or so. It'd be interesting cos anything you've learned already you should remember cos there'd be nothing wrong with your memory, and so you should remember how you used to understand it all as well. But would that understanding you once had gradually become more vague and confusing? Would your understanding of the entire world as you knew it just fade away? It'd be interesting to experience (though obviously only if it was temporary).

I'd probably try desperately to cling to everything I once knew by frantically revising all the stuff I already know so that I don't forget it. If I eventually gave up then I guess I'd just stick to the hobbies I have that don't require much brain power, like movies and video games.

Yeah I know losing IQ points would have no effect on my memory, but if I did eventually forget it anyway then a lot of it could be too complicated to relearn in the future.

An attitude comes along with being that dumb. I'd probably mock my slightly smarter self for being a nerd.
