What came first? the spoon or the shovel?

Which idea came first? For someone carve a stick into something to scoop soup/broth into your mouth. Or to build a tool to shovel dirt/ debris out from the ground.

Spoon 2
Shovel 7

  • I bet the shovel, since digging probably would have been needed before fine dining

How long would it take to make a spoon vs a shovel? Spoons just seem so easy to make vs a shovel.

      • I mean what do you think a caveman is gonna need first, something to move dirt around or something to eat out of a bowl with? Even a stick in the ground would constitute a shovel if we define shovel as something that's stuck in the ground to remove dirt

Yeah but a spoon is less necessary than a shovel. When people wanted to eat soup they would just drink it directly from the bowl.

If anything, spoons needlessly complicate the task of eating

I'm pretty sure it was the shovel.

Shovel. People ate with hands before modern eating etiquette became a thing
