To feel like life was actually easier a couple hundred years ago?

I mean yeah like the oregon trail probably sucked but think about it. You could literally legally own slaves, be drunk all the time, shoot people and nobody could do anything about it, beat your spouse, murders were never solved...

Basically whatever hardships people faced back a hundred years or so ago get cancelled out by how much everyone was a colossal fucking piece of shit and probably deserved it. What do you think?

Yeah, and as a drunken, bad-ass, slave-owning, wife-beating gun-slinger, you could die from something as trivial as a splinter in your finger causing an infection that turned into septicaemia.

That's assuming you didn't die in childhood due to smallpox, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, scarlet fever, diphtheria or pneumonia. Or malnutrition, child abuse or parental neglect due to your mother having died in childbirth and your father being an alcoholic or addicted to opium. And if the splinter or some other stupid-ass infection didn't kill you, you could watch your body literally rot as you went insane due to tertiary syphilis you'd picked up from your whoring days (or acquired at birth due to your father's whoring). Or you might die of cholera, rapidly die of malaria or suffer recurring bouts of feeling utterly crap because of it for the rest of your life, or be murdered by some other idiot who was an even badder ass than you.

The world has plenty of problems today, but believing that things were wonderful or even better in the past is ignorant.

    • Im not saying Id want to do thos things. But it was the norm back then so nobody gets to bitch about diptheria and malnutrition while they literally get away with owning slaves.

What if you were a slave, someone who was shot, a spouse that was beaten, or someone murdered? Was life easier for them?

    • No but basically everybody was a dirtbag back then so they got away with a lot of fucked up stuff. They dont get to whine about dysentary

It depends on what you care about. For example: If, let's say... chairs, where popular in the 1900's, but not in the 2000's, and you like chairs, you may say that the 1900's were better. But another person who doesn't like chairs might say the 2000's are better.

Each century and year has its ups and downs.

But I have to disagree with your statement.

    It is not normal.

I'm fond of toothpaste, deodorant and toilet paper.
Although with today's social distancing we can get by with less of it.
