The usage of "inhumane" doesn't make complete sense

I get that the word has the meaning of "lacking in pity or compassion", so in one way, it makes sense that you would use a word that connotes being animalistic. Since many animals naturally can't comprehend or don't possess empathy, or simply can't be bothered to care.

What I find ironic, however, is that the word "inhumane" (appearing to mean "not human-like") is only used when referring to violence and cruelty perpetrated by humans. I've never seen it used on an animal.

Humans are the most violent creature on the planet. I bet any horrible act that you can imagine, some person has realized it.

No animal could do, and some would probably not do, the kind and the scale of violence that humans do, so if anything, extreme violence should be referred to as "humane".

We have a very broad array of personality types, more than any animal, I think.

One person may have compassion, altruism, and kindness above what any animal could, yet another could be crueler than an animal could probably imagine or take pleasure in.

I believe these things are just different sides of humanity. I don't really believe in calling horrible people "monsters", because it just strikes me as a pretense for people to hide from the darker side of their humanity behind.

I don't think that is helpful to the root problems. Taking a more objective, outsider's kind of look at mental health and psychology might be controversial, but it may be necessary.

Environmental factors and brain defects can all play into how a person turns out, but they're still just variations of human.

I don't think any of us can understand the full extent of what we were and are capable of becoming at any given point in our lives, good or evil.

If you were raised from a baby in some shithole, and grew up around peers and parents who regularly murdered and raped, maybe you'd be "inhumane".

I read a YTB comment that said something like this, "A certain degree of prosperity is required to be able to afford humanity."

At the end of the day, I don't excuse the actions of evil people, but I want to view them realistically.
