The sims 4 is not as great as people make it out to be

Basically I've stopped playing the Sims 4 although I only decided to purchase the game last year. I bought it when I had my Acer swift 1 laptop, but then came to realise that the amount of storage space on the device was not compatible with how much DATA the game itself would require.

It was a pain in the ass downloading and installing the game, on top of that adding mods and customs content and then you have the expansion packs. It was fun for a while but eventually it got boring and I spent less time playing the Sims..

This year I gave my laptop away to my sister because she needed one for her school in case if we went back into Lockdown. Her phone doesn't work as well as it used to so I decided I'd give away the laptop to her to keep..

I don't mind, as I never used it much anyway and I have my phone so it's no big deal.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I played sims 2, 3 and 4 and can safely say, you're quite right. Sims 4 is lacking in many ways. While sims 3 had major crash/lag issues that were mostly addressed for sims 4, there's many aspects to the game that are super finicky or just impossible to do as freely anymore.

Rooftops have a more free shaping mechanic which for younger players can be a challenge getting used to (let alone mastering). They went and made a simple system for just placing a flat roof option in sims 3 to being hidden amongst heaps of other buttons you need to click around to locate. When I first started playing it took watching a few YouTube videos to find out how to properly use the new mechanics to the fullest and admittedly, I miss the way it worked in previous games. Oh and don't get me started on how little variety you get.

Many expansions are a blatant cash grab which, (although did happen in previous sims games) is targeted at specific ethnic groups, such as the Hindi culture expansion and other Middle Eastern garb from one of the clothing packs. Sure you could skip these expansions but then you also miss out on some furniture that may be required to make full use of the gallery option.

They even shortened some expansions and gave it a different name and would have it add only 12 items to the game. Couple this with again, lacking full use of the gallery due to not having all the expansion items, along with the hugh amount of bugs in multiple expansion worlds and you find yourself wondering if its worth it given how either way you're you're not gonna get your moneys worth.

After waiting for a Steam sale, using 1,000+ mods and 5 console commands as well as editor tools, I found the game to be enjoyable enough to get my moneys worth at least. Sims as a whole though isn't something I'd recommend to many people even with what appeal the game type may have. The company that owns it just doesn't try. Once they get the game out you'll be lucky if they fix a game breaking bug before having to be threatened by legal action.

  • Never got the sims games. Why make a videogame charicter be a normal person? With social lives and coworkers.

    • I would make sim farms where I would breed armies of children, if they disappointed me they would be sacrificed. I would make the house a normal bungalow on top with a secret sprawling all-metal basement lined with beds and cots.

If your adult male sim got abducted by aliens he would sometimes return pregnant with an alien baby and I tried to make farms of those but it would take too long between the births for them to feel like a proper cohort.

I’ve been accused of “playing it wrong”.

      • Theres no way to play it wrong if the point is to be a god to your sims.

My gf keeps on getting frustrated when she has dozens of kids and she cant multitask them to do exactly what she wants them to do (too many kids)

Me? I stopped playing after my sim got an exciting high paying job and farm grapes on the weekends. Finally getting the dream home I designed for him... a castle because it's me. :P

        • I always wanted the castles expansion pack as a child. Imagine raising aliens in one of those.

I remember one time my sisters’ sim was an old man and it looked like he had reached the end of his lifespan but he didn’t die, she was annoyed because “I already made him make love one last time!”

  • The only somewhat simish game I played was a spin-off call the Urbz which was pretty much the Sims in the ghetto.
