That moment when my family invaded my privacy.

A few years, ago I remember a time when I used to write stories on a computer i once had.

Some of those stories were horror, erotica or comedy. So one day, my father approached me and told me that my Grandma and her friend got on my computer without my knowledge and read a story i wrote about a girl who was showing signs of demon possesion. Obviously they were shocked and had the audacity to act concerned when they should not have gotten access to my devices without permission to begin with.

when my father told me this, he asked me to not write anymore stories that were deemed "Inappropriate" and then afterwards, i quickly deleted it off my computer. I was very upset when I found out what happened and something so personal should not have been breached. If i wouldn't have done something like that to them, why would they do it to me. Of course, I chose not to bring the matter up with them and decided to move on from it, but the fact that other people have opened certain diaries or stories written by me without asking makes me think that everyone i know is a piece of shit.

My older sister for example, took a diary i had when i was 13 and read everything out loud to the neighborhood kids she considered friends. The way i have been betrayed by so many people in life makes me not want to live on this planet anymore but i continue to because i refuse to let my past destroy what's left of me.

I understand those feelings. My mom would read my journals. It is like you are being backstabbed.my mom's justification...I was only 7. Can't a 7 year old want privacy?
Prayers for your peace of mind.

    • the ironic part about this is that i actually used to write autobiographies about myself.

        That’s odd.

        I think.

I'm sorry that happened. I agree, it sucks and people should have better respect for others' privacy and boundaries. Unfortunately, I think sometimes family members tend to assume it's okay for them to snoop on other family members or otherwise overstep boundaries just because they're family. Some of mine went through my stuff when I was living at home, threw out or donated a bunch of stuff I still wanted and used, and helped themselves to some of my other things. I don't think they meant anything by it and just assumed I wouldn't mind or that they were doing me a favor (they thought "reorganizing" my stuff would be a nice "surprise", but they got rid of things, too), but I HATED it.

Is there a way you could password protect your laptop? Not sure if you would get in trouble for that if you live in a strict household in which you have limited to no privacy, but another alternative could be hiding the files in a very hard to find spot, assuming your family isn't super tech savvy.
