Should confederate statues be torn down?

If the Civil War veterans who fought against them were okay with them then I'm okay with them.

No, it's history and wehther you like them or not many were great generals. Robert E Lee even to this day is considered one of if not the best general in American history. Alot of confederate officers served in the Mexican American war. They studied at west point with the union offices they fought against. After the war the confederates were not demonized too much by the US except for the voting thing. They did not go to jail. They were basically pardoned mostly out of respect Grant had for Lee who was a fuckin legend even in the north.

The civil war was a big event for the south and changed the south in ways that still effect it today. The richest state in all of the United States then was Mississippi and is now the poorest state in the United States and the all the poorest states in the union is in the south.

I dont know why its such a big deal for these people for the south to have some statues and have its own flag.

And lets be honest a lot of the people complaining about it arent even from the south or any of the states where there's these statues. So their opinion means jack shit. These ppl love to move to the south for its low taxes and cheap land and then they start crying about it once they get there. Crying about statues and shit. If its so mean and racist why even move there?

History is history and how people feel about it is irrelevant.

Most of those status were erected well after the war and if you look at the purpose behind why they were erected it was not fully about honoring the civil war; and there was a lot of racism and false superiority at play.

The earlier ones erected shortly after the war were in fact usually placed to honor the sacrifice or to honor a truly great man.

My position is that you have to look at when they were erected and the reasons behind the organization that did so.

In most cases the later ones should in my opinion come down. I've not seen a single case of an earlier one that warrants removal. Many of the earlier ones are in military cemeteries - and I do believe that they have not been disturbed by the modern removals.

Yes. The confederacy was a revolt against the Union and shouldn’t be idolized. As for being history, there are plenty of museums in which to remember the past, which should be done, instead of giving the rebels a place of honor in public places.
