Should almond milk be allowed to be called milk?

I think yes. The dairy industry is trying to own the word milk and take the word milk out of all the non dairy milks. so no more coconut milk or almond milk.

And i mean technically they are right it's not technically "milk" but it is indeed milky and what else do you use to describe it? You cant say coconut juice because well thats different than coconut milk. and i mean some cultures have used the word milk to describe non animal creamy liquids for a long time now , like rice milks and so on.

I say fuck the dairy industry they don't get to own the word milk!

what do you say?

almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk ,ect. should be allowed to use the word milk 14
No they shouldn't be allowed to use the word milk 7
I give blow jobs to the greedy cruel dairy industry so I vote for them 2
I let the dairy industry fuck me in ass so only they should be able to use this word 4
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

    Wow. Biased poll, much?

I mean, I'm not a huge fan of the dairy industry at large, but...

Also, a good IIN member is a dairy farmer...and she's far from evil.

But yeah. It's a MILK substitute. We fuckin shorten shit all the time, that's essentially it. The term has been used forever, it's not a new thing.

Now, Cadbury trying to copyright the colour purple was my favourite...

I believe in America you should be able to call your product whatever the hell you want. If you honestly thought Almond milk came from a cow you should be beaten with a stick.

It should be specified as almond milk and never reffered to as just 'milk'. If I say I want milk, its implied I am talking about cow milk because thats most common. Trust me, I drink a shit ton of milk when bulking, which is now. I am at 12 glasses a day already!

What you said reminds me of this video game I was playing called Ace Attorney. One of the antagonists in it drinks 17 cups of coffee a day. XD

17 cups of coffee a day is unhealthy as fuck! Depending on what type you drink, that could be death in a coffee cup from caffeine overdose.

Milk is by definition a substance produced by a mammal to feed its children. Almonds nor any kind of nut, grain, fruit or vegetable can not be labeled as a milk due to the very definition of milk.

The only reason why they put milk in the name is because it's a milk substitute, it tastes like milk but isnt actually milk.

I mean, the word has been used in reference to plant based milk since the 13th century, but lets not worry about that...

  • They use plant "milks" as a replacement for mother's milk, so it's sensible and easy to use the word milk. It lets consumers know what they're supposed to be getting.

Also "Any of several nutritive milklike liquids" is a definition for the word milk.

No, it is not real milk. Even if it looks and tastes like it, it will never be real milk.

Facts don't care about feelings. Fake milk should not be using the real milk's bathrooms.

It's not meant to be taken literally, it's like 'Milk of Magnesia'.

I have chosen not to vote on your poll, because the multiple choice options were way too biased.

Aside from actual milk from a cow, or other mammal I only refer to coconut milk as milk, because coconut milk, and the phrase coconut milk, has been around way before the other dairy alternatives were ever a thing.

I thought they were allowed to call it milk? Is that not the case where you live?

It's technically not milk, but I don't think it matters much because it's designed as a milk substitute so I feel like calling it milk is helpful to consumers.

    • Try them all! SO MANY great non animal milks out their! they taste better and heaps of studies show that they are healthier for you too! Ones that dont are always funded by the dairy industries cruel pockets! and No forcefully impregnated cows that live in perpetual pain as they impregnate them over and over again and take their babies away as soon as they are born! Just drink the lovely creaminess that grows! :)

The Dairy industry has spent BILLIONS pumping the idea that it's "normal" to drink the breast milk of a cow! It's not! it feels like it is because its so common, But it's fucking Unnecessary and gross when you really think about it. and plant milks are just all around better!

You really do have to try a variety of plant milks though, find your vibe ...not all of them will suit your taste.

Using dairy is normal. Humans have been doing it for thousands of years and dairy is just as healthy as their non-dairy alternatives. If you want to stop drinking milk because of moral reasons that's fine, but dismissing studies going against your point of view by claiming they are paid for by the dairy industry while ignoring the fact that their are many studies paid for by the alternatives is either ignorance or dishonesty.

Interesting. Was not what I expected to read. I do love milk. Always have. But your right. I just watched a video the other day about one of those companies that made me want to shoot the place up. So much animal cruelty. God I hope the people who can make a difference get on it. Hmm well I'll definitly try more of them out!
