Sensational feeling i get when talking to people

OK so I've been experiencing this feeling for a long time now and I'm not sure if its normal. When talking to certain people (be it male or female) I get this tingling feeling in my head which feels immensely relaxing and soothing. Its like a mind massage through telepathy and it feels so great, if anyone experienced this before, they'll know what I mean. I just got this feeling again when speaking to a customer service advisor on the phone, its crazy.

Why am I getting this? What does this mean? Does this mean I'm connected to this person in any way? Why does it feel so good?

Please answer this I'll be grateful! :)

There's another question on here about the same thing with lots of useful replies :) Lots of people seem to get it.

I get something like it, although it sounds like yours is a little more intense..

It's usually triggered by someone saying or doing something I consider to be interesting, cute or nice. Especially when they're explaining how to do something or caring for me, like when a doctor does tests. And especially if it involves slight physical contact or they have a certain type of voice/accent... so weird and difficult to explain!!

    I think it's a good thing, though :)

Wow, I've explained this feeling to people too but nobody understands...I can't believe there are other people who experience this!
I know what you mean - it is the most soothing, relaxing feeling. I experience it when someone is giving me instructions (like at a job) that are so beyond anything I could reasonable accomplish -- I normally start getting anxious in this situation but I think at other times I experience this complete relaxation -- maybe the mind/bodies way of protecting itself from too much anxiety?
I also experience this when talking to a telemarketers or credit card service people on the phone -- It's like I go into a relaxing trance listening to their boring scripted soothing conversation.

I feel this too. I figured i was the only one :/ but it does feel amazing. This usually happens when that person is only talking to me and my only input is nodding my head or something. It makes me want it to last forever.

Until 'we' found others that felt this it seemed impossible to explain to someone who doesn't experience it themselves so speaking to a doctor about it was the last thing on my mind.
And apparently there are so many other weird brain sensations out there that go unexplained and undiagnosed. All of the ones I have seen just from a quick google search seem uncomfortable or even painful but they still have doctors looking at them like they're crazy or making it up.
When a researcher wants to start studying this phenomenon I'll gladly assist and all the poking and prodding will probably put me on such a brain-high that they'll have plenty to study.

i get it too. like this wave going back and forth feels as forceful as a boomerang. im not sure really when i get it the most, i think it's really when i realize something is familiar like something ive experienced in a past life or a memory i had never thought of before. sometimes i wish it never happened, it comes out of nowhere and sometimes feels very primal

So glad i'm not the only one, and i can't believe how old this thread is. My first memory of that sensation was when i was 6 or 7 and i was talking to a new friend from school on the phone, she was describing her house and i just felt it all over my head. i've felt it many many times since. For exanple when i watch make up tutorials or just videos of people explaining something. i notice it especially appears when i'm dealing with people i'm not very familiar with. Like when some schoolmates who aren't my friends text me to check up on me after my mom died. i really wanna know what causes it exactly.
Edit: i was also feeling it now reconnecting with a friend i haven't talked to in a while and also while reading this thread. it could be a form of ASMR

Holy crap I thought I was the only one I tried to explain it to my parents and they never understood. It happens when I get instructions from experienced people and when someone says something nice to me but that one only happens occasionally

Wow! Just googled after talk soothing and i get here. I always have hade this feeling and now I find more people feel the same. I think I even remember the first time when it happened. I was a child and I was sittning on a bench and watching other kids my age playing in the sandbox and it started to tingle in my head and a calm feeling came over me. Now im 27 and i never talked about this feeling. Love to watch certain instruction videos on youtube and I think I listened to "10 ways the earth could end" on TED talk a hundred times

I am really relieved that this is not as uncommon as I thought..my mate is a doctor and he has had patients describe it to him but there is no scientific explanation.

I started getting it when I was a kid when my Uncle used to play the piano to me...only when it was just me !!

Now there is a friend of my wife who just has to start talking to me and it starts off..I cannot control it but if you could bottle it you'd be rich!!!

Oh man I made an account for this rofl. For those saying something is wrong with you, your stupid. But I don't buy the whole spirituality bit either. In any case.

I always get it when I'm on the phone or in person with customer service, or someone is walking me through something. I think bennycat hit it dead on. Soothing/relaxing trance-like feeling. Very sensual, my sense of touch feels heightened. It reminds me of "spider crawling down your spine" as a kid.

Don't know how old this post is, but, I just discussed this with employer who also happens to be a psychiatrist. He is also Buddhist.
I described phenomena to him like this.....
Once in a great while...a very great while....when somebody is talking to me...usually explaining something.
The gender, or age of speaker does not matter
could be explaining how to start pressure washer....
or kid describing kindergarten lunch menu....
A tingling starts at back of neck.....progresses to the scalp....and to forehead....maybe even the eyelids.....very pleasant....very relaxing......

He says it sounds lite meditative state.

    don't know....
    will continue to investigate.....

But Psychiatrist friend unfamiliar with this phenomena

I ABOUT FLIPPED. i had no idea anyone else experienced this!!! :D i compare it to the feeling i get when my mom used to pet my hair when i was little.in fact i get this feeling anytime someone plays with my hair. Also, i get it when listening to instructional videos or reviews of products. (weird i know) like, normally the persons voice has to be very even toned and relaxed and it has to be kind of boring so i m not really listening, i sort of feel like i enter into a trance, i can hear whats being said but im not understanding it at the moment.

I've had this all my life as well.

Usually people who talk with an accent in a sort of monotone voice does this to me. A calm voice with a British accent can easily bring this out. Also people who tend to talk perpetually lower and slightly raise the volume of their voice gets me to feel really really REALLY relaxed as well.
Male or female, it doesn't matter.

Oh I discovered a great website that brings this out recently: http://www.KhanAcademy.Org

It's a site made by this uber smart guy who creates free instructional videos on a lot of subjects, most of them math.
He has an American accent but the constant increase and decrease of his voice's volume is so soothing PLUS the way the numbers and diagrams are drawn on the screen make it even more so relaxing!

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN! Not even a massage is as relaxing as that feeling! It usually happens when someone is speaking in a veeeeery gentle way, or when he whispers. Last time it happened to me, i was in a jewelery: the lady who worked in there was speaking that way while showing my mother some objects. I was like -> *~*
Unfortunately this happened many years ago...

    Update from the ASMR group:

    - We now have a research team formed!
    - A forum and research website has been created: www.asmr-research.org

Note: if you can't reach the link, just Google "Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response support & research", without quotes - sorry, mods don't allow direct links on this forum.

    Should see in search return:

    ASMR Research & Support

Welcome to the research and support site for ASMR. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a physical sensation characterized by a pleasurable ...

    - We are using the Facebook group, website, and forum to build a portfolio for proposing micro-financing of an independent clinical research effort. :) It's going to take a lot of convincing, and a lot of community participation, so if you have the time, please stop by the forum (it's on the website, under the 'Support' tab), and add your basic stats. Anything will help, and if you're feeling really adventurous, we'll be looking for volunteers soon for some online data gathering and experiments! You can be part of a very ground-level group trying to explore this sensation and document it for what appears to be the first time!

    SOOO Happy others get this!!!

I honestly thought I was the only one and have also tried to explain it to others and they've just laughed..

It seems a common theme that people get it when they are listening to just one person and not really giving any input themselves.

Thats what happens with me... I often think its just the voice, it seems soothing and I HATE it when It goes away..

Sometimes it travels down my spine from my head, its an amazing feeling.

And i've had something very similar during very sensual, sexual but loving sex. When the girl and I have been very close, holding tight and almost being whispered to. Its truely awesome.

Hi-five to everyone out there who gets this!

From what I gathered, this might be originating from a somewhat lost reward system in our brain that is supposed to make us feel good when we groom (the fur/hair) or get groomed. Since we lost most of our fur, the reward system became more sensitive. No science has been involved in this paragraph.

This account exists because of this post. Spent 4 years trying to explain and ask about this after I stopped keeping this to myself , with no results. I remember it as something that happens when someone tries to solve a problem or is explaining something. The most profound "tingle" was when it was a direct conversation and my interlocutor was trying to sort 9 cards by different properties into pairs (which is impossible), I couldn't hear half of what they were saying. I hope to be able to reproduce this "tingle" at an 80% success rate.

I have found an article in Russian. It mentions a set of common triggers. Among them is the attention side of ASMR. https://pikabu.ru/story/asmr_chto_yeto_takoe_i_s_chem_yeto_edyat_6179548
      The paragraph in question:

      Smooth hand movements
The focus of the observed person on some kind of work (drawing, problem solving, programming, etc.)
      Massage.
The third group of triggers includes situations associated with the manifestation of personal attention to a person:

After this it lists a number of situations where you are being given attention and at times instructions/explanations.
This is 100% ASMR, but I guess we have low sensitivity and that is why we don't react to the soft whispering/noises ASMR.
Best Of Luck we all need it.

So to the comment that mentions getting the sensation with really loving, sensual sex, I have felt this sensation with men when just really intensely making out. It was so wonderful that it was like sex was not necessary.

Very specifically, I am a Pisces and this has only happened to me when I have made out with Cancer males. I understand that being kissed on the back of the neck would be erotic and pleasurable for just about anyone, and it is for me with men who are not Cancers...however, with these Cancer lovers (two that come to mind) when they kissed me on the back of the neck I got the same sensation, heavy eyelid euphoria, that I get when I watch instructional videos on youtube (Bob Ross, painting, make up tutorials), when certain professors or yoga instructors have spoken, and random people such as a lady today at a dressing room who was talking to me and I did not want it to stop. Anyways, when these Cancer males have kissed me on the back of the neck I felt like I was going to pass out, I could not talk. This might be caused by a different phenomenon, just plain old sexual attraction, but I believe this tingly sensation associated with these different triggers to be so rare and somewhat spiritual. I have often contemplated if the people causing this are angels? They are so genteel and humble it seems. Cancer males are the most emotional of the zodiac signs, so I wonder if there is a connection. Please post your zodiac signs!!!

Oh my god there is a whole bunch of people here who feel the same thing I do. I am so happy. I felt like it was just me who gets this feeling and I never told anyone because I always thought it was oddly shameful? Most of the time the sensation starts when I am being instructed or watching/listening to someone else is being instructed. At this very moment, I am at the library and the girl on the computer next to me is getting help from the librarian and the feeling is just rolling in waves. It starts as a slight tingle and the more the instruction continues the more pronounced this feeling gets. And I swear I am not trying to be crude but its almost like an "orgasmic" feeling. (I think that is part of my shame about it - cuz I didn't think it was normal) I can remember being in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL and we were having a guest talk to us about strangers or something. We all had to sit on the floor and he stood at the front of the room and as he talked, I was sooooo calm and sooo relaxed and it didn't stop till it was over. I am actually disappointed when other people end their conversations or the talk ends because the feeling goes away. I can't MAKE it happen...(wish I could). <BR>As I have matured, I have found it happens on its own when I listen to other people conduct business or give instructions about things....I am 35 and as I type I am experiencing this. Can anyone tell me why this happens? I don;t want to get rid of this ...in fact I wonder if this is what heaven feels like....but why is it happening?

dudes this movement is getting bigger by the day...and the sensations are getting more powerful....look towards envelopes facebook page, research "kundalini awakening" but DO NOT take all the info as fact,(spesh the negative effects, obcession with irrelevent meditation ect((unless its yer kinda thing,as it will help, but not at all needed, i hate "meditation..though often daydream...spesh with music...alot!)) as theres a lot of shit surrounding the spiritual way of dealing with this..along with a lot of wise words..and even more confued ones (spesh by me as i had a massive hit n babbled it out on the other tingley link)so use yer intuition well, you'll know whats right for you...i believe this is special, EVOLUTIONARY even...just develop it in any and evey way you can wichever road you take.ps strong positive mindset n high beauty subjectivity have been key for me, but its a very individual experiance.(this is true individuality...not yer materialistic, capitalist bollocky version...) good luck folks x

I get this. Posted on another thread about the same thing, and wanted to share again:

I started a Facebook group for this exact sensation - it's called 'Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response Group'. AKA ASMR - we've split the sensations into two groups in discussion: type A is a controlled experience (one you can illicit without outside influence), and type B is triggered externally (seeing, hearing, feeling something that causes it without you intending it to happen). There are a lot of us out there! Join up, add your experiences, get support from others who 'get it', for once, and help us compile stats as we work to build a case for clinical research. Don't be alone, and don't let people tell you you're weird, crazy, lice-infested, on drugs, overly-imaginative, having seizures, etc.! It's quantifiable, shared amongst many of us, and something worth enjoying for what it is. :)

Holy crap this is the closest thing to an answer all of us have ever had! I hope you also posted this information on the other 'tingly sensations in my head' post because that one has a TON of responses on it an most of them are wondering what the heck this is and why nobody is studying it. These awesome sensations are what brought me to this site in the first place.

Wow, ok this is more precisely when I feel it, too. I just had it happen while I was watching my truck get an oil change. I've had it during garage sales when people are looking at my stuff, or while someone's trying to diagnose a problem I'm having with something by studying it. Mine is a tingling sensation behind my right ear, near the back of my head. It feels crazy-good. I got it at the Apple store when I took my computer in with a problem and the guy was standing there working on it, too. Very strange.

im concerned a physician would place you on meds and block it out....have a scan by all means (make yer brain/body glow if ya do n yer feeling naughty!)....get checked out by all means....but DONOT go on meds unless theres real cause or issue...because in 99.9% of cases (n im still unsure bout the other .1%) its a beautiful thing thats happened throughout the ages...yet for some reason, right now..theres an explosion going on) a physcian cannot help those going through this experiance......nor can anyone ...youve got to develop all the spectrum of positive emotions/characteristics,independantly, using intuition, awareness, and intelligence.....good luck all who read this.

Do yourself a little favor and discuss this with your physician. A 'Tingling feeling' in your head can be nothing, it can be wonderful, and it can be a precursor to something serious.

After you have ruled out any physical abnormality, by all means explore and discover!

no offence george but im afraid if yer not going through this you cant make such rash comments...its something only understood by those experiancing it,,,,there are certain triggers that put this outside the relms of science....fear will block this wonderful thing guys....its not a brain tumour guys.... yer not going crazy...and its well documented...those truly going through this know its primal almost...the glow washes over us when talking to people...perciving beauty...listening to music....dont fear...dudes this is the reason buddists medatate..to awaken this "glow"....this is why churches have music (before home sterios) to awaken the tingle....its true freedom from the chains of materialism.....your on a path towards "free" whilst those around you stay "enslaved"....just trust it guys!
