Realosm to abstract?

I used to enjoy drawing realistic drawings & sketches of people
but now I feel like I have to start drawing abstract artworks, and feel like realistic art is a junk because there is photography as a better version of realism

Art is matter of taste. Even photography can be abstract. For example, black and white photos are abstract, because we see the world in color.

But a photograph cannot slightly modify the subject and create interesting effects and concepts, or alter parts of the picture into things that cannot exist.

The Milwaukee Art Museum has a fantastic section on photo-realistic paintings the show just how powerful these modifications can be.

Note that the building itself is a fantastic work or art.

WiKi has a good selection of photos - which does not even capture half of it.

What is really unique about this building sculpture is the detail and how well finished it is. Most cities find that building "works or art" structures run way over budget; and as a result corners get cut and planned items never get build.

Milwaukee was well aware that they had no idea what this building would really cost to build - and did a truly unique "cost + overhead & % profit" series of contracts with all vendors so no one would try to cut corners. Then they found the money every time that it came up that something was going to be more expensive than expected. They also got the Unions to agree that certain finish details could be done by real artists/craftspeople that were not union members. If I recall correctly it cost about 75% over what they thought was a conservative high estimate at the beginning of the process.

The results speak for themselves for anyone who visits in person. It's truly a Wow! experience and they get visitors from all over the USA and from a number of foreign countries because of it.

    Come visit...

  • I prefer abstract styles, there's more freedom and liberty in what you can create
