My mom wants to abandon my niece

Years ago my mom received a call from the police and they said my sister was arrested for child neglect because her neighbor phoned the police for noise complaints. Her child was taken away and my mom said she would take care of niece until my sister gets her life together. Years pass and my grandpa died. My mom said she will drop my niece off with her mother and leave her there. If my sister loses custody of her child again my mom will not take her and she will be put up for adoption.

Well you could always take care of your niece.

It's normal. She was probably tired of dealing with her sister and didn't want to deal with the financial woes that could come with a potential child custody battle. Plus when it comes down to it she was never obligated to use her resources to help her sister or your niece in the first place. Sometimes self preservation needs to come first.

I guess your mom is tired of dealing with the situation.

That is no excuse to abandon a child. You're depraved.

She's probably tired of feeling like she's being used.

So that gives her the right to abandon a child?

I dunno, I'm not offering an excuse, but rather more a reason.

Unfortunate situation. These things happen, and there are always reasons for it. The key reasons may be hidden from you.

Caring for anther's child can be difficult - especially when the real parents exist and want to regain custody.

You also may not be aware of other issues that your mother has to deal with. Adults tend not to tell children about a lot that's going on in their lives in an attempt to protect the children (which sometimes works, and fails badly other times).

I pray that your niece finds stability in her life and that you find comfort even if learning that things in life can be difficult to understand.

    • When I was still in high school my sister moved back in with my parents. And she would say that she will kill herself if I don't drop out of high school adopt her kids. I don't know if I could deal with my sisters drama

I feel you. Your mom also shares some responsibility in this because she's the one who raised your sister.
