I just found out that my girlfriend of 5 years lost her virginity at 14 to my best friend at the time. I don’t know wether to be put off by this or turned on.

We've all got a past, if you dwell on things, they will weigh heavy, after 5 years with this girl, i would assume you feel that you have some kind of future with her, don't let this affect the way you are with her.
Who she lost her virginity to is immaterial, as is whoever you lost your own virginity to.
Its in the past, let it stay there and move on.

If you had been mature enough when she was 14 maybe you would have been the one. She's not with him now or for the last 5 years, he must not have been that great.
Everyone loses it to somebody and very few work out to be married or long term. Some that do end up long term, end up looking for a little strange or different later in life.
Look at the positive side at least you know who it was and don't have to wonder about every close friend she has.
