My dad beat my stepdads ass

While joking around with my mothers boyfriend as a teen, i got a very pronounced black eye from the muzzle of my rifle that we were playing with. While my mothers bf was a total psychopathic asshole, this one time was an accident. My adult cousin got very angry about it (tired of the abuse) and called my father in ohio and sent him pictures of the black eye i had. My father drove down to north carolina and walked into our cabin (which belonged to him, my father) and began hitting john, my mothers bf. John was not able to defend himself and was on the recieving end of the beating. Dads only words as he left the house were " this is my sons house... you live by his rules".

While my dad was never there for me as a child, he really gained my respect when he defended me. It did a lot for our relationship. Is this normal?????
