My dad always told me a story. where is it from?

So my Dad and my Grandpa always told this story. I believe my grandpa learned it from one of his parents, as I think I heard it from someone on that side of the family once.

I know that this is almost certainly fake, and he told me this story to get me to learn how to use a can opener.

The story goes like this;
There is a family of one Mum, one Dad, and two sisters, one six and one eight(?). One night, a murderer comes into the house and kills the mother and father, and flees from the house, leaving the two little girls unharmed. Unable to get help (I forgot the reason), they are stuck with the food in the house. After a while, the un-canned food is gone, and all that is left is the canned food. However, they do not know how to use a can opener, and they starve. A long time after, people come and search around, and find the bodies of the sisters, with their skin wrapped drum-tight around their bodies. Upon investigation of the cans, there were bite marks on them, showing the struggle to get them open.

Anyway, if anybody knows about the story also, who told it to you?

    Gruesome, vaguely plausible stories that don't mention a specific place and date and have some sort of moral (in this case, that parents should teach their kids basic domestic skills) are usually urban myths.

    If you think about it, this story doesn't make a lot of sense. Six and eight year-old kids don't have many life-skills, but there aren't many who are so dumb that they'd stay in a house starving rather than figuring out a way to get outside and seek help. And they'd have to have been born with super-power levels of stupid not to be able to figure out how to use a can opener by trial and error.

    it's a pretty stupid story anyhow. like... even if they could open it, what the hell were they supposed to do after they ran out of the canned food too, if they were stuck there anyways???
