My accent gets thicker

I just realised when I talk to people from a different area my accent gets weaker. And then someone from my area starts a conversation with me and my accent gets much thicker. Ive never noticed this until recently and I don't like it. Is this normal?

  • I've noticed this with myself as well! If I'm around someone for long enough, I start to pick up on the way they talk more, from the different words and sayings they use, to my accent getting weaker (if theirs isn't the same as mine).

  • I talk differently often. Sometimes it’s just certain words I say in a particular way. Dunno. Can’t help it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

  • Yeah normal usually accents are strongest when you're with people who have the same accent as you

  • My text speak is so different from my normal speak, which varies per person. If im talking to someone not from a native english home, i try to use better grammar to better impress the rules of English in every day conversation. Otherwise Im making up words left and right just for shits n giggles.
