Men: is it a turn off if a 35 year old woman sounds 16?

I have a really young sounding voice. It runs in my family as my mother in her 60s also sounds much younger than most women do at 60. People say she sounds 20s. It's not something I can help and I'm wondering if it's a turn off? Should I try to change my voice?

Thanks

  • Just be you if they don't like your voice (something you can't control just like height) then they aren't the one for you.

  • You probably needed to include a sound recorded wav file so we could take a listen. But I would say with 99% certainty that it’s not a turn off, and even often cases would be the opposite, a turn on. That 1% of doubt comes from whether you as a person regard a 16 year old voice to be somewhat of a shrill, grating whistle, in which case you may have some shallow, sensory sensitive people who will find it a dealbreaker. As with anything though, it’s the way you carry yourself, who you are and how confident you are as a person and how in tune you are with your sexuality that will override any surface superficialities of judgement

  • You sound a lot like me OP, except I'm 25. I look, sound and act like a kid (as well as mentally), so I always find it unfair when people treat me like an adult or expect me to know things adults do. Whenever I post my picture online, most people will say "you look 12". I can't count how many times it has happened.
And also my voice sounds much younger also, although my voice is very versatile. I can make my voice sound like a man, or a 4 year old girl. (Both things that people have said) this is because I am a singer and voice actor as a hobby. (I only voice act my OWN things)
I'll send a link to one of my songs on youtube so you can hear if you want?

  • Not possible. You're deluded.

Anyone who thinks they look or sound younger than their age is deluded.

    • Not necessarily. I've met many people who look and/or sound way different from their actual age (either younger or older). People are all different and have different qualities, and all age differently.

      • Exactly. I'm literally in my 30s. People mistake me for under 20 all the time. My genetics are mostly the reason as all my family have and continue to get mistaken for younger but I also do yoga and intermittent fasting which I think helps my skin stay younger looking.

When I was in my 20s people thought I was a child. I had someone even ask me where my parents were when I was 22. They thought I was a kid. Some people naturally look younger for longer than others it's just genetics and then what you eat and do :P

    • Uh no you are. I'm 30 and so many people comment on how I sound like a teenager. When I make a doctor's appointment they ask me if I'm an adult. When I speak to someone anyone over the phone they ask me if my parents are home. I sound 16 oldest. When trying harder especially during interviews I still sound so young that some interviewers have commented on it saying wow you sound so young. It's a teenage voice. Google is free. Other people have this too. Here's one video of someone similar:

And looking younger? Many people look younger than their age. Grimes is 34, have you seen her in person? She's my favorite artist. She looks and sounds 16. My neighbor I had a crush on when I was 20 turned out to be 39 I thought he was 25 oldest. Yes people do look younger than their age. It's quite common. Especially Asians.

      • Yeah, I'm going to be 34 in September and no one believes me when I say my age. You're just fine, OP. Don't worry about it.
        XD

        • This only gets better when you are 44 and people are shocked to hear you are over 40.

        • Yeah I'm in my 30s and people always ask me for ID even to buy lotto ticket. A few weeks ago a teen at a convenience store said he couldn't give me the lotto ticket because I left my ID in the car and he said I have to at least look over 21 and he asked the owner of the store for me and the owner said sorry you don't look old enough (the age to buy lotto is 18+) and to come back with ID. I feel this lol

          • I sometimes get hit on by young guys that think I'm 20 or some shit. They never believe me when I say I'm 33. My new go to comeback when they get aggresive has become "lose some collagen in your face and then we'll talk." It seems to confuse them but it works. XD

      • So she has a unique voice that sounds like a kid, that's the nature of her voice (if it's her real voice). But still her voice must be aging like everyone, has the same changes that happens to everyone of the humankind the same gender at the same ages.

As for looks, also same changes happen to everyone of the humankind the same gender at the same ages. As the guy in Titanic said "It's a mathematical certainty." No one is special. Some people style and behaviour could trick people to suspect they are young.

As for the celebrities you mentioned, fillers.

        • Lol no many people age differently than others. Some age quicker physically, some age slower. I'm in my 30s people don't believe I'm over 20. I still get ID to get lottery which is 18! You are probably an introvert which is completely fine but maybe you don't leave your house much if you think everyone looks the age they are. I have many friends who also look younger and friends who look older. It's genetics, exercise, nutrition, etc. :)

Hope this helps make you less stupid.

  • It's a little unusual, but there's a dude in one of the grocery stores I shop at with a high woman's voice, he has it much worse than you.

  • Sound is not the big issue, it is what it is and you may not have a lot of choice about it, however the words you use, the way you dress, or act.
I see many 30+ that are dragging their feet leaving their teen years behind. Certain words, clothing, hair styles and actions are pathetic at 35 or 45 y.o.

    • Which words should be abandoned by 35 year-olds? Society should have a comprehensive list.

    • shut up bro, I will wear whatever I like whenever I like

      • Evidently I ruffled a few feathers.

I agree clothing, words, hairstyles, are your choice.

The question was about voice and I think you need to be yourself, I would say the same to the other issues but it could and may be a turn off.

When a 30 to 50yo talks like they're texting and doesn't even realize it. Can make them sound stupid or that they are purposely trying to act younger.
Colored hair( pinks, purple, green) and some side shaved again appears out of sorts for a 30 to 50 unless you are trying to advertise I'm different.
Clothing, rock it if you got it but spandex shows everything and cottage cheese legs and bat wings don't always look great in mini skirts and tank tops.

Just my opinion but to each their own.

  • Sounding younger is ordinarily in the accent and the way you say your words more than your voice itself.

    • No that's not what I mean though. Here's a video:

This isn't me but my voice is similar. I always sounded younger too. When I was 16 I sounded 10.

      • Like I said its the way she says her words more than the sound of the voice itself. She has that little child like slur.
