Leaving parent's house: is it a western thing?

In my country someone will leave their parent's house only when they have built their own and it is normal for children to stay there even if they have a job. It is regarded as stupid to leave when you have no property.

Why do young people leave their parent's house to go rent when they could live there and save to make a purchase? Is this just about culture or are there other reasons that I am disregarding?

I will only leave my mom and dads house when I feel ready to do so and when I'm independent on living on my own.

My mother has major balancing issues so I choose to stick around in case she falls.

To be frank, you're typically seen in a childish light for not leaving your parents place over here...unless you live in a major US city. People who live in cities have different views on the subject due to the cost of living difference.

Our parents didn’t want us to begin with. They certainly don’t want us after we’re legal adults. Silly goose!

Finding a healthy relationship must be hell with parents hovering well in to adulthood.

It's sort of a hold-over from the Boomer days when shit was affordable - you read "Death of a Salesman" and the adult sons of Willy Loman are all in their 30's, hanging around in their childhood bedrooms and having meaningless hookups. It wasn't always the case that Americans would move out and when they did, usually it wasn't far from the nest.

Culture and the ability to do so. If you live outside of a city in the USA its pretty affordable to buy a house and most of USA is just wide open space
