Kinda losing touch with reality

Man what the fuck is this thing we call consciousness? These kinds of philosophical thoughts among others are causing a change in me, and it's scary because I can't identify this change i just feel.. different, it's foreign territory to me. I don't know if it's positive, negative or just part of growing up but it's definitely a little overwhelming. It's I guess a feeling of existentialism but it feels more rooted I can't really explain it. Does everyone go through this and ever feel like maybe they're losing grip on reality from time to time

Is It Normal?

  • You cannot deny your own existence. This realization is consciousness. It's not a big deal.

  • You need to get out more.

  • Definitely normal.

I really can't describe it. But sometimes I get that really weird feeling that drove me insane. I hate that feeling and I hope it never comes up again because I feel so horrible--I really can't describe it--during those times.

I can't describe it. It's weird. It's like, you feel really meaningless and empty, and everything surrounding you becomes extremely unfamiliar as if you have never seen them all in a sudden.

And I feel like I doesn't really exist and I don't feel like I am myself. I really can't describe it with words...and I HATE this feeling. I HATE IT. I hope it never ever comes up again. If you experienced it you'll know the horror of it...

      • ...anyways, the weird thing is that it comes for no reason. It just...comes. That's it. With no war or extreme violence.

To be honest I'm kind of weird. Sometimes I also experience a piercing pain on me, as though I was sliced open by a knife. For no reason. My emotions can become extreme and magnified all in a sudden for no reason, and I often fantasize about murdering my friends.

OMG, ikr, I'm weird. but whatever, I've been hiding my feelings for a long time. Only anonymous people on internet know.

        • To clarify would you ever act on those fantasies about killing your friends or are they just fantasies?

          • Just fantasies. Don't occur often, but sometimes it happens.

            • Ah right, I have a friend who's the same, but I think he said he hears voices with homocidal thoughts sadly :( but he's one of the best people I know and he bares a lot of weight on his shoulders

      • OMG, I read that and that's EXACTLY HOW I FELT. As though I was in some sort of dream. Hard to describe but anyways.

I first experienced it when I was like, 11 or 12. I was in the car and that feeling just came all in a sudden. I was literally suffocated by it so I told the adults about it. However I could not describe it with my plain words...so I said, "I feel as though I'm not here."

Nobody thought that I was experience something like this. So they just laughed and told me that I had nice imaginations. I knew that it wasn't just a story I made up...there was such an empty, unrealistic feeling in me, but I just stayed silent.

I don't experience it very often, fortunately, and it usually only last for a couple of minutes. It's still annoying if it comes though.

  • I'm dealing with something similar to you. I have a mental illness which is fucking hell, and partly because of it, I had extremely high highs and low lows in my spectrum of emotions.

However, shortly after I turned 20, I got a job that stabilized my mental health. Now everything just feels... dead. It's like, the world has OFFICIALLY ended, but everything just... well, seems to be continuing for some reason.

I'm asking you because I need help, too. Do you relate to this at all?

    • Can I ask what mental illness and idk what it is I'm feeling but I stopped smoking weed for a few days and that really helped calm me down and get back in touch with reality. So if you are experiencing something similar maybe if you're using any drugs go sober for a few days and see how you feel it helped me

  • You could probably study consciousness for the rest of your life and still have no answers. I'd just accept that you exist or you'll drive yourself mad.

    • Perfect answer. I looked into that abyss and there is nothing good that comes from it, other than possibly a new found respect for normalcy.

    • That's right. There are no clear answers, it is just best to accept it is what it is.
