Kids thought i was weird for not having a girlfriend in 6th grade?

5th grade it wasn’t too bad, just a few incidents of being pestered about if I liked anyone, but 6th grade is a whole different story. Dating was virtually all anyone ever talked about, and kids would ask me “who do you like in this class?” Never “do you like anyone?” Always “WHO do you like?” Even after I say “no one” they would keep asking.

I remember one instance these two boys were pestering me during reading time and they asked me if I ever kissed a girl before and seemed shocked when I said “no.” And then one asked me if I played a lot of video games and when I answered yes they looked at each other like I just said something horrifying! One of them even said “we gotta get you a girlfriend.”

But by far the most obnoxious example was probably sometime in between 6th and 7th grade when one kid messaged me on Facebook (and yes we had facebooks at that age, I’ve talked about that subject before so I’m not gonna go into it) and he asked who I was dating (again, not IF I was dating, WHO I was dating) and when I said no one he kept calling me homophobic slurs until I blocked his annoying ass (I wonder if that kid was actually gay himself and liked me but didn’t know how to deal with it).

And I would often overhear conversations about relationships and everyone took them VERY seriously! It’s just so weird to me when people act like kids don’t have sexual thoughts until they’re teenagers or that preteen relationships are always so cutesy because these kids were BRUTAL about it! Only just recently did I realize that a lot of them could have been BSing me, but I find it hard to believe people are surprised kids that age think this way. (This was in 2010-11 for context).

I had a girlfriend in preschool. Her name was Britney and I'd play with her hair in line and she'd come over my house. Never kissed her tho.

6th grade, most of us were age 11/12. Just about the time that hormones start to set in. By age 13, hormones eat you mind alive.
People forget what it was like being that age.

I do not remember much pressure about dating though. Usually the "cool kids" were involved but the rest of us, not so much.

    • In my experience I don’t recall having many hormones at 13, which I remember very vividly. 10 however.....

Kids dating in 6th grade is basically playing pretend. you just kind of pick somebody and agree that you're "dating" and it lasts a week or 2. 6th graders are also stupid and haven't developed personalities yet so they tend to think everyone should all be doing exactly the same things.

I know people my age (40's) who jump into a relationship and it doesn't last more than a week or two. It ain't just kids.

    • I really don’t know if it’s fair to say they haven’t developed personalities whatsoever at that age.

Yep this. It's all a game and attention seeking. Nobody actually gets strong feelings or has good sex at that age. It literally childs play.

Yea exactly. Alot of kids are just as sexual as adults its just got a stigma around it.

I first started dating when I was 20 though. Maybe late 19. Idk to long ago

He kind of resembles a long hair'ed Jack Black.

He does live out of state though, we get along but do not communicate much. He has no problem with TG, I mean he is well aware of how I live and has some CD friend he runs around with.

I think if he were TG himself, the best thing is if he could live as an elderly black woman instead of being the young white man he presently is. Then he could change his name to Cleopatra Squawkeisha Jackson.

I guess time feels slower when it’s full of drama. I can’t believe it’s been 2020 less than 2 weeks, feels like 2 months worth of shit has hit the fan already.

A lot of kids date in late elementary school/middle school, but it's not abnormal if you don't. I didn't date anyone until high school because I just never had the desire to before that. I remember thinking dating in middle school was so stupid and pointless.
I know a lot of my classmates took their relationships seriously which I also thought was stupid because we were all so young.

I remember being pestered about who I liked and most kids do that because they're nosy little shits.

I waited till summer after seniors year and as much as I wonder what I would have been like to start sooner, I still suspect I wouldn't have got to far. Nobody dates seriosly at that age.

"also u need to get a real gf"

Know anybody that would spend the rest of their life with someone who won't fuck them?

Every other damn profile on dating sites say, "I am not looking for sex" so you have a 50% chance right off the bat.
