Is it possible to tell things about people just by looking at their habits and faces?

There are some people I work with and when I look at the way they dress, move and talk, how loudly they talk and how much they talk to people who aren't in their entourage, and when I look at their particular arrangement of wrinkles and skin blemishes and their facial features and their skin type, I tend to imagine that they will be a certain way.

Like a person with a pudgy face, large eyes and oily skin, who smiles often and talks loudly to everyone might be indulgent, relaxed and/or greedy, whereas a person with a thin face, small eyes, dry skin, a restricted circle of people they fraternize with, a tendency to only speak loudly enough for those people to hear, and a tendency not to smile, might be cold, perfectionistic and/or stingy.

    You sound like my friend, she notices a lot of details about people and can tell a lot about you without you saying anything, knowing how they're doing without talking. I'm not the same at all, but it may be a skill.

    Nah a face can't say much tbh. Their body language sure but not the location of wrinkles. Maybe how much they were out in the sun but that's it. Some very depressed people smile a lot to hide their depression and have the ( ) around their mouths while others with depression don't. Some shy people have no wrinkles some have many. It can't reveal much about who they are.

    I have resting sad face and people think I'm sad all the time, i typically am but in the past I wasn't sad and my face still made so many think I was on the verge of tears lol. Also i was near underweight a little over a year ago with severe depression now I'm slightly overweight and still have severe depression so even weight doesn't hold much meaning

      I would have said, chipmunk. It's the teeth and the lips. I get the impression that his problem is temperance and indulgence rather than avarice and meanness. He's very expressive-looking. He has the look of a political huckster about him.

    I don't know if it's just the way you wrote it, but it sounds off. It seems superficial

    I do this stuff too, but I base it off psychological cues. One thing I do is try to mimic their face to see what it feels like to make that face, then I think about how it must feel to make that face naturally. It kinda let's me see into their mind if they make a face at something being said or if something happened. I look at the shape of both eyes, the pupils, if eye muscles are being forced or look natural. I also look at lips and their muscles and listen very carefully to tone.

    For anything else I try to observe trends and when they occur, like the types of actions they may take, how they introduce new topics or information, their demeanor towards their life and their surroundings.

    I accept I'm not omniscient and that I am fallible, my assessments are more like guidelines for me to interact with my environment. And you know in some sense you have a point, trends of people typically have trends of appearances as well, but this line of thought most certainly can lead to dogma. You would be presupposing so much based heavily on factors outside of people's control. Now I mean I usually do think I'm accurate with my assessments, but I always have this thing called the benefit of the doubt so things are usually proven slowly to me over time. Even people I call shitty, I give them time to earn that classification

      I entirely expect criticism, but it's not smart to be crtical and then promote your own supposedly superior skills in the same breath. Irrespective of whether you had meant it 'like that', it doesn't look good.

            My biggest problem with your method is that it seems shallow and it seems the funniest answer for you is what you think is correct

            Not everyone's fat because they lack self control. Some people eat big because they work hard. That's not really lazy or self indulgent, is it? That's trading aesthetics for performance

            And in general someone's physical traits like how their face looks isn't going to tell you as much as what you sharing that opinion will reveal about you

            I've studied psychology, philosophy, spirituality... If someone says rude things about someone I think they're self centered. People who talk loud don't all enjoy a sense of power, sometimes it's because they're not really listened to a lot

            And your assessments look more like lists of adjectives than actual assessments

            I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt in that maybe you wrote this weird and that I don't fully know how you read people all the time, but this is how I feel based on what you wrote

            I've had people look at me like I know I look at certain people, but I can't help but think how silly they are because I know I'm not as bad as they could think and I see them transparently and openly digging around. That's how problems start. One of the most important things to rid yourself of if you're going to try to read people is to drop your presuppositions, forget what you don't know, don't assume you do know.

              There is one thing that is concomitant with my method, and it's being gracious and patient with people - especially towards those who have just eaten humble pie for me - and to remember the log in my own eye as I point out the sawdust in someone else's.

              You have many qualifications and arguments - good for you. I will continue to be who I am and do what I do in my way.

    If you had a bad leg and walked with a limp or had a birth deformity only 1 had or half a foot, how would you feel about someone judging you WITHOUT KNOWING THE FULL REASONS FOR YOU DOING WHAT YOU DO ?

            Interesting, thank you. In terms of your question most people judge by appearances at least to a degree, so long as you don’t take your interpretations too literally I see nothing wrong with them.

              Thank you. A lot of it is in the expression in the eyes, and the skin condition - there are too many variables to know from here if someone who looks 'like' a person, looks like them in spirit, or just on the surface.
