It vexes me when people feed their children crap

Too many times, obese/fat parents who don't know or give a shit about eating healthy bring their ignorant children up on appalling diets.

The parents either cave, or don't bother trying, and consequently the kids end up eating mostly fast food, sweets, or other processed foods.

They think that "vegetables are gross", because they weren't brought up eating them. The way Americans prepare vegetable dishes can sometimes be bland and unappealing as well. Too many people don't know how to cook properly.

The children often end up overweight, and unless they turn it around as they grow up, the fatuous habits that were instilled/allowed by their parents persist.

When I see adults who don't even know basic nutritional facts, especially the stuff that's on the back of their food, I think that their parents neglected that department.

I try to tell myself that it's none of my business. And while I've never criticized one of these irresponsible parents to their face, I can't help being pissed off.

    The op is absolutely right.

Another one which I see a lot here are kids, with their jobless young mothers & fathers, eating expensive takeaway bakery rubbish for their breakfast. Bags full of cheap, crappy frozen food over each arm.

You can hear the mother telling anyone who will listen about the fact that the state doesn't hand her out enough money to "feed her kids properly". Carrots, they wouldn't know what a fucking carrot looked like unless it was cut out of a tin.

And there she is, clutching her most prized posession for all to see. Waving it around like an aircraft marshal at Heathrow waves their orange batons on Christmas Eve.

    An £800 ($900) contract iphone.

  • It’s a general lack of education being passed on from one generation to the next. How can a parent encourage a healthy diet for their children, if they have never been taught themselves what a healthy diet entails.

I've seen parents that are always bringing home big bags of McDonald's and crap for their kids, or all this frozen food or snack cakes or anything else loaded in transfats, bad carbs, sugar, and fillers and additives, while never seeing a vegetable or piece of fruit in sight. Desserts, cake, or candy is ok to treat your kids to in small doses though, they are kids and you should let them enjoy sweet things, just make the rest of their diet healthy.

Ignorant people do ignorant things, and they tend to produce ignorant children who repeat the whole ghastly cycle.

Poor nutritional choices and poor parenting are complex issues. The results affect us all in one way or another, but there's not a huge amount we can do about this as individuals. Politics has a bad image these days (well, it's more accurate to say it has an even worse image than has had), but the solution to these problems lies in education and social policies which encourage healthier eating and hammer home the point to parents that they need to be fucking responsible parents.

It doesnt help that the supersized options are cheaper then going somewhere to eat healthy... it seems to be mostly ignorance but eating larg abounts of crap is cheaper for the low income than eating healthy. Even grocery stores (in america) make the shitty options cheaper. (Not In in all cases but produce and other healthier products/ brands are more $)

I can get 16oz of fresh in store ground unroasted unsalted peanutbutter for $8 or I could get the cheap store brand PB at 62 oz for $3.99 but it has more than peanuts in it... The sad part is that people will judge me for getting the expensive PB saying im posh or a rich millennial or whatnot for choosing to not consume chemicals.

Parents should care about their children's diet.

Doesnt have to be 100% vegetables, but you can as a parent find something healthy that your child will like.

You should eat more chocolate. Chocolate is better than men.

I agree. But women are better than chocolate.

But what about my steak sandwich with extra grease? That's healthy, right...

I really prefer raw or steamed vegetables, boiled vegetables are disgusting.

You cook all the goodness out of vegetables by boiling them. You end up with bland vegetables and throwing out the water they were boiled in that contains all the nutrients.

      • So true. The reason I used to think that carrots were lame, was because they were boiled.

They're approximately 10x better roasted, raw, or cooked practically any other way.

Cooked vegetables are mushy and taste like shit.
