Is this mental (verbal) abuse? and iin?

I have low self-esteem. I don't really have good hygiene or health because of this. I have a hard time getting to shower, brush my teeth and hair, or even do chores. They, my parents, even claim I have bipolar schizophrenia just like my birth mom because I don't act normal.

They say things like: "you're fat, ugly. You have no friends. You have no life." This is almost every day. It lowers my self-esteem even more.

I also wanna be an artist but they want to force me to be a lawyer or doctor.

Is this verbal abuse or corrections? Also, is it normal?

    Sounds like abuse

There are better ways to try to motivate you besides being mean to you

It's not normal for them to treat you like that. I would consider it verbal abuse. The thing that really caught my eye was that they wanted you to not be an artist. When you're old enough, leave them and become whatever you want.

They're bad parents. Don't believe the disgusting things they say.

Some people just know how to brighten up your day!

Sadly, they have plenty of company out there.

Well, you know, I was just thinking...Since you have an aptitude to do art, and since they want to force you into becoming a doctor or lawyer; just wait until they go out, then paint live-action portraits of doctors and lawyers all over their walls.

It is mental abuse, but even though they are saying things like this to you, they may not realize exactly how damaging it is. I had parents who loved me more than anything, but growing up they did use mental/verbal abuse at times. I don't feel they done this to hurt me or anything else. I think they did it because they hoped it would push me from doing the things they were saying. Sort of like tough love, I guess you could say. If I were you, I would sit down with my parents and talk to them about it because it is very damaging. Although I don't feel mine did it to be damaging, I can say it did damage me in ways.

They shouldn't condemn you for the effects of mental illness and help you deal with it.. they knew your birth mother had a mental illness and knew the possibility that you could have it too. Sounds like a bunch of narcissists who just adopted for a cash cow thats why they're forcin you to be a lawyer or doctor.. or maybe they ain't that bad but still toxic parents for talkin to you that way daily and ruining your mental health even more..

Good lord. I almost wish the abuse was slightly worse so that you could call CPS and get out of there

I never knew that there was such a thing as verbal abuse growing up. I feel like it never really bothered me. Why are you so upset about it?

    First off what's normal?

Second. Is that really what they say? Or are you turning around in your mind? If that is what they really say then yes, it is abuse. If not then they might be attempting to motivate you.

And if your a teenager. It's so normal. You sleep allot, you hate everything, your parents don't understand you, and they are ruining your life. LOL. Trust me it's totally normal.
