Only if you don't know how to sew or if you can't afford to buy new socks. Either learn ho to sew or buy new socks. Socks with holes offer little to no protection.
It's normal, however actually feeling that you need to ask a question like this isn't.
Do you also find it embarassing? I went over to a friend's house then realized I had a hole in my sock where the big toe is....I kept trying to cover it with my other foot by stepping on the toe haha..
Learn to darn your socks if you don't want to buy a new pair, but having holes in your socks is uncomfortable and tacky.
I have no idea how to "darn" my socks, or what that even means. Is that bad?
It's how you patch a sock. You use a larger needle and yarn instead of thread, matching the yarn material to the sock material. It helps to insert a small cup inside the sock, so that you can slide the hole over the opening of the cup. Doing that stretches out the hole in such a way that it makes it easier to manage repairing it. When you attempt to "sew" it, your not pulling the sides of the hole together, it's more like you are making a woven patch to replace the hole. It takes five minutes to do.
I grew up poor, so I know how to make things last beyond their years.
Personally, I would only do it for a good pair of woolies. Cotton socks are so inexpensive and cheaply made that it's easier to by a new pair. Or I could be like my nephew and not bother matching any pairs of socks together, just grab two that don't have holes.
