Is it normal to want to be a fictional character?

I made this account because I couldn’t find any answers on Google and I’m worried if I tell anyone, they’ll think I’m crazy. Is it normal to want to become a fictional character. I’m not gonna say what character I’m talking about for personal reasons, but I feel a very strong connection with them, to the point where I wish I were them. I’m not crazy, am I? Is this a normal thing?

All my life I've always had a hard time staying true to myself. I've always tried to copy my idols and people I look up to. It's not normal because you should technically be happy with being yourself and who you are as a person already.

Very much normal. We all want to be something or someone else.

Actually, there is a good chance that we are all living in a simulated universe, so that means there is a good chance we are all fictional characters.

I think a lot of people wish they were a fictional character, like me. Rather to escape reality and live in your dream world or to live the life of a certain character, or even be the romantic interest for another character. It only starts becoming abnormal if you start blurring the lines of fiction and reality, and even become harmful. As much as we all WANT to be these fictional characters, we have to leave that only in our dreams, and make sure both of our feet are grounded in reality first. I will never stop say dreaming of being whisked away into a Wonderland of my dreams, but I also know to keep my dreams and reality apart.

Yes, it is normal in my opinion. Fictional characters are created to look good to an audience. Just think about any fictional character and remove any quirks or abilities that make them special. The show or media that they are in would not be even close to as interesting without the characters being special.
Fantasizing about being a character makes sense because of this. We consider how much more interesting life as a character would be than our mediocre lives and it psychologically makes sense. A yearning to be something out of the ordinary, something better than we are now; it is entirely understandable.

Yes there’s quite a few animated characters who I find attractive and cool, am obsessed with and aspire to be like, someday would like to get back into sewing so I can make cosplays of them

  • In a way we are all fictional characters. We are creations of our own minds.
It's not that strange to fantasize about being a fantasy character, but I think it show that you are not satisfied with yourself or your life and wish to be someone else or be in a different situation.
