Is it normal to 'trim' your nails by just ripping it from side to side?

Like I have literally never seen anyone do it. Everyone I met uses a clipper. I have 'trimmed' my nails this way since I could remember. I almost always manage to get a nice crescent shaped nail to discard but very occasionally I 'overdo' it and need to 'redirect' the tear with a clipper

I never use Clippers. My nails peel and break off.

Why do people used Clippers anyway?

I used to do it as a kid. Quite often even. Then I tore a bit too far and left myself a very sore nail. (Er, nail bed?) I use clippers for the job now.

Sometimes, if my nail is growing into the side of my finger/toe, I will chop the edge at an angle with my nail clippers, and rip an angled section down to release the compacted part.

It hurts, but it's better than letting it grow more and hurt more.

My guy does that with his ingrown nails. Terrifying

I don’t really cut my nails. I let them get really long and then they eventually break. I file them often to keep them looking nice.

If several break, I’ll bite and rip em of or use clippers. Don’t matter.
