Is it normal to smell your ear wax?

I have this habit of smelling my ear wax whenever I can. Whenever I clean my ears, I take a large chunk of my wax on my hands and I start smelling it. It's got a very unique smell and sometimes I do this almost every day.

Smelling bodily substances may seem gross but it is actually very healthy and very traditional.

In medievil times doctors used to smell, taste, touch, forment and mix bodily substances, (feces and urine included), with diffrent chemicals to aid the diagnostic process. Smelling your earwax is a very good way to indicate weather or not your ears are healthy or not.

If your earwax smells like it normaly does then your ears are healthy.
If your earwax smells like candle wax then chances are you have a bacterial infection
If your earwax smells like mild chedder chease then you probibly have a viral infection
If your earwax contains dark red spots then chances are you have a perfirated ear drum
If your earwax is dark brown then you have an infection of the timpanic membrain

  • It is normal, it just means you like the smell of you ear wax. A friend of mine for example like to scratch his balls and smell it all the time (and he does it a lot) , he say he likes his own stink.
