Is it normal to sleep 16-18 hrs a day after an insomnia phase?

For the past couple days, I have gotten at least 16-18 hours of sleep each. It's stange, because I'm normally an insomniac, but today, I've been asleep for the majority of the day and I still feel like falling asleep. Same thing happened yesterday.

Is it possible that insomnia put me in so much "sleep debt" that I've needed to sleep this much?

Another thing: I recently switched antidepressants (Effexor to Cymbalta), so that may have something to do with it, but withdrawal from Effexor isn't supposed to cause hypersomnia.

i used to have the same experience on a generic of concerta. I still have mild insomnia (it is nearly 12am currently) but maybe try drinking tea or take magnesium if it doesn't affect your meds

I love sleeping, and I take Cymbalta.

I do that after I stay up for 2 or 3 days.

I get this somethings. Sometimes the subconscious brain and my physical body give out and just need copious amounts of sleep (also an insomniac)
