Is it normal to having such a sense of freedom playing text roleplaying?

For instance i would log in on a foreign roleplaying server where i would roleplay having a 'tea party' with other characters, to end up killing, skinning them and some attempts were however not very successful until many arguments that i don't carry any lethal items without properly roleplaying but still convinced them.
