Even though it's common, it's kind of scummy for a person to keep pursuing someone who's in a relationship.

Guys like competition. I've picked up several women just for the "win' of it..They probably do want you, yes, bf or not. But it's also about the win. Two weeks ago, I got invited to a sports bar after my younger, hot female friend was off shift at my usual place. I said yes, and met she and her two guy friends across the street. The guys talked to each other, and, threw out fairly sad hits on my friend, so, I figured..Game on.. I paid her enough attention, bought her two drinks, made her laugh..And stole her right from these guys. Even if they wanted her..I left with her.

While I do like her and think she's unbelievably beautiful and sweet, and, would probably have had her at some point anyway, yeah..Stealing her from these 2 guys was very fun for me. I won.

Yes it is normal even if you are average looking so to say. Use it to your power, milk them of their gifts and dump them later on. Selfish but then again they are dumb enough for ignoring you telling them that you have a bf. Although running into a stalker is a risk.
