Is it normal to have made up extremely developed characters?

In 2015 I was addicted to some game where you could talk to people and I don't know why but I COMPLETELY lied about myself. Name, hair, eyes, age, personality, and everything else were changed so the person I was on there was not me in the slightest.I even made a friend for her too. I made friends on there and by the end of 2017 things started slowing down and I pretty much quit. In the time that I went on that game the person that I pretended was me and her friend developed so much that now if you told someone about them you'd have enough information to convince them that they're real. It's not like an unhealthy obsession with 2 made up people but I created so much about them when I was on there that they literally have relatives with their made up personalities too. I hate that I did this and I wish I never did.

Sorry if this was really long

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

It’s pretty normal. When I was a kid/teenager I would make up characters all the time and escape into their worlds for fun. When I was 13 I wrote a shitty book and although I now know it wasn’t any good I still feel attached to the characters because they represent aspects of my personality and people in my life.

I’ve been doing this all my life. It’s very normal for creative types.

I have characters except I didn't actually sit down and think them up. They've been appearing in my dreams for over a decade in a floating timeline. They have their own adventures and each dream plays like a short episode. I wish they'd stop already. XD

Also, sorry for two comments in one, but I have OCs too! A few actually, and they do have families and stuff like that. My friends do too! If you don't like doing it, that's fine, but if you come around to it you might want to write a book or something about them!

Yes! They are called OCs (Original characters) And there are whole communities for them. Such as deviantart, the youtube ranting, oc, or art community, or amino!
