Is it normal to have debate against a deceptive individual

More specificly an argument in which a person uses unnecessarily complex words in an odd(almost deceptively poetic) manner to convolute his own argument so as to confound his current opponent. I know that this is often a popular form of debate used by apologists and pseudoscience promoters, but I don't know what it's called.

  • Some people purposefully do that to confuse their opponent. It's not deceptive, but it's clearly a technique that has worked for them in the past as a way to confuse a person out of a debate rather than properly address the issue. If something is said with intelligence and confidence, one is more likely to believe it. I can attest to this practice, personally

However, I do know some people will bullshit facts (even subtle changes) to win a debate so it's always good to research BOTH SIDES OF THE ARGUMENT. A good debater will be as diligent in learning the opposing argument as their own.

  • There was a member on here a while ago that used to post the most ridiculously complex stories, it was like he had exchanged every word with a rare synonyms and the resultant text hardly made any sense, he also tried to make it sound like he spoke like this all the time which just made the guy sound like a crazy fuck nugget.

  • MmHmmm. Sounds a bit like someone I don't really know. But I don't know anything. Especially at 330 am. Blah.

  • That is what they call politics my friend! Why else do we have such ill informed voters. They mess with your mind!

  • I feel liked I just stepped into Lit 101 first day of college or you just probed a dictionary to my brain....

  • Idiots, they're trying to intimidate you with their so called intelligence. When really, if they were smart, they'd explain their point of view in a way that people can understand. Otherwise they just come off as dumb ass arrogant cunts...I'm sure they're not though, they're just confused little idiots, i hope they grow up some day.

  • I just typically don't debate with people like this, because I know what they're doing and they usually write out such long walls of text I just can't be assed.

  • If you know they're deceptive....are they really that deceptive?

It's the honest ones you have to watch out for.

    • A dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you've got to watch out for, because you never know when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.

I like Capt. Jack Sparrow way too much. He was hysterical to me in that role. XD

      • Damn you Jack Sparrow!! I guess I'm not as brilliant as I thought since he's the one who originally said that.

Lol yes he is an interesting soul as is the actor who plays him. Did you know Johnny Depp never intended on becoming an actor? It's strange the course life takes us on sometimes.

I wonder how many of us will look back on where we had intended to go, and where we actually went and say, "Huh. I never saw that happening"

        • Hehe, ah well. I've seen you post a lot of insightful things in other places that I'm pretty damn sure are original, and even if a similar reference to something one person said already occurs, it doesn't mean it wasn't an original idea in the head of both of them.

I didn't know that.. do you know what he intended to do previously and how that changed?

I daresay a good bit of us will probably say that... seems more common than people like to think. Considering I'm full steam ahead for an art related career... I'm sure things are going to get interesting.

          • I'm sure they will! What's life without a bit of fun?

Before being an actor, I believe Depp was a musician who did independent films on the side. One thing led to another and eventually his side job became his full time job.

"a good bit of us will probably say that"

I imagine you're right. But it's not necessarily a bad thing.

It's an adventure who's final chapter is obscured. I'm sure you, I, and everyone else has their part to play. Whatever the outcome is, I'm glad to have been a part of this wonderful play called Life.

...Even if I was just an extra in the background *cry*

            • Not a bad thing at all. I think life would get a little too boring if things were really strictly planned out. Why obsess over the end result? What's real is what's now, take the rest as it comes.

Argh, you know I feel like there's something else I want to words here but I can't quite figure out how to coherently say what I want to say. I'll have to get back to you :P
