Is it normal to have an irrational fear of herpes?

SO, I do have anxiety.. I worry about things that are out of my control constantly. I do have this extreme fear of Herpes. I am in a committed relationship, and I never engaged in one night stands (not that you need to to get herpes) I have slept with few people and Everyone I have slept with I was dating and "knew" unfortunately like many I have been cheated on in the past :(. I have this OVERWHELMING fear that I have herpes, because I have heard that it can lie dormant in your body for years. I get regular tests to be sure, and have never tested positive for any STD/STI in my life. I have never seen any symptoms of herpes on my body .. but it can lie dormant! So what if it shows up next month? Or next week? HOW would I explain THAT to my boyfriend he would think I cheated. Is this a rational fear? Or is this my anxiety and I sound totally crazy? Should I take a chill pill or continue freaking, and does anyone else do this?!

Totally normal, but please stop worrying about it you are fine! 134

Normal to worry but honestly there isn't anything you can do about it. Tell any future partners that you were once cheated on and would rather use a condom as protection because you've heard it can lie dormant and get tests until YOU feel certain that you don't have it. Maybe talking with your doctor will help ease your fears.

There are two types of problems in the world: solvable and unsolvable.

If a problem can be solved then it is worth worrying about so that you can work out a solution.

If the problem cannot be solved then worrying only increases your stress and becomes a problem itself.

This situation is of the latter type and therefore I think you need to try to ignore your fear or seek counselling to help you stop worrying.

  • I'm a guy and have always had similar fears.

Your fear isn't irrational. I've not hooked up with so many girls because of it.

I don't have herpes and don't want it and every time I take a risk on a girl that I didn't get tested I tend to worry so I mostly don't hook up with girls I don't have tested anymore.

I have a new interest in a girl I just met at the store she works at, a hot sexy blonde with blue eyes, pretty face and sexy body. I'm already wondering if she's got herpes and if so will I date her?

We flirt and she gives me googly fuck me eyes, so it's a 'done deal'. Yay.
Normally I'd of banged her already but I'm a little paranoid about STDs.
Well there is also this other blondie I may like more so that's another reason hehe.

Even when I have a regular girlfriend I sometimes worry because people cheat and lie about it.

I personally think it should be a crime punishable by law if someone lies about having an STD that you're going to be dating. I feel that everyone should have to submit to testing or show their results when asked for by another person if you're going to date them. Like they must give consent to show their medical records for STDs.

Because we don't have laws like this, these STDs run rampant in our society and they ruin people's lives in some cases even killing people.

It seems for the most part anyone who is not paranoid about herpes either already has it or is ignorant about it.

Google for herpes simplex 2 pictures and get disgusted and scared!

Mainstream media tells you there is no cure because big pharma wants to sell people drugs forever.

Scientists have proven colloidal silver kills the herpes and almost all other known viruses.
"Kill" is not the correct word because viruses aren't really alive but it basically penetrates their cells so they are rendered ineffective.

I've also seen a product online based on natural remedies and herbs that claims to eliminate the herpes virus but over many months or even years of taking the stuff.
I think it basically help builds up your immune system but I'm not sure and have no idea if it works or not.

There are always cures for everything even cancer.
Don't be fooled by the corrupt medical industry and the media machine spreading lies.

From my understanding and memory herpes cannot be undetected for long. What I mean is yes it can lie dormant for years meaning you don't get an outbreak possibly forever but if I recall correctly testing for antibodies will show if you have it or not.

I think there's only like a 3 month window the test won't reveal if you've got the herpes antibodies. Meaning unless you got it within the last few months your body will test positive for herpes antibodies which means your cells are/were trying to fight it off at some point in your life which means you have it.

I'm not sure, I don't remember. Someone correct me. Check it out.

I've had friends that have it and they really really hate it. It ruins their social lives. I remember them in school getting totally depressed and wouldn't date people because of it. Some of them were born with it from their parents :(

I haven't married girls because of it. Well that was part of the reasons. I've not dated other girls because of it but I am someone that tries to live a healthy illness free life.

    Hope that helps.

Herpes should be the least of your worries, Herpes won't kill you. Try worrying about like HPV, that almost always there's NO symptoms, and causes very deadly cervical cancer.

One in four adults have herpes.

There are approximately one million new cases of herpes each year.

More women than men have herpes.

Approximately thirty million Americans have the herpes virus.

There are about 500,000 new cases each year in America.

Approximately 80% of persons having a first episode caused by HSV-2 will have at least one recurrence, while only 50% of persons with HSV-1 will experience a recurrence.

Clinical trials have proved Valaciclovir (an antiviral therapy) to prevent or delay up to 85% of herpes outbreaks.

About 50 percent to 80 percent of the adult population in the United States has oral herpes.

Twenty percent to 25 percent of pregnant women have genital herpes.

It has been estimated that about 20% of the population have genital herpes and 90% have oral herpes (cold sores).

In women, the cervix is infected in about 80% to 90% of initial infections, and vaginal discharge may occur.

Some people may experience several outbreaks during a year, while others have only 1 or 2 outbreaks during their lifetime.

The average number of outbreaks is 4 to 5 a year.

During the active stage, 20% to 25% of people begin to have the active herpes virus present on the skin.

Genital herpes is more common in women (approximately 1 out of 4 women) than in men (almost 1 out of 5).

Genital herpes is the most prevalent viral sexually transmitted disease.

There are more cases of genital herpes than there are all the other viral STDs combined.

The more sex partners you have, the higher the risk of you getting, or having already caught, genital herpes.

Studies have shown that the vast majority (80-90%) of people who have genital herpes have not been diagnosed with the condition.

Every 30 seconds, another person gets genital herpes. The number of cases of genital herpes has gone up by over 30% in the last decade.

If the number of people infected with genital herpes continues to grow at the present rate, it is predicted that in time nearly half the US adult population will have genital herpes.

It is estimated that 99% of all HSV-2 infections are genital.

dude do some research on the herpes simplex virus. you will find that almost 80% of the whole fucking worlds' population actually has this infection. including me I didn't know anything about it until I contracted it when I was 17 years old. the thing about herpes is you probably have it. any little sore you've gotten in and around the inside of your mouth (most commonly in the cheek area) is actually the SDI herpes simplex.

my brother has had it since he was a child. he had it in his cheek and that's about it. he still doesn't believe me when I say it's herpes but I know for a fact it is.

I was unfortunate enough to contract it on my lips from kissing a dirty whore a bunch of times. and when you first get herpes you actually get very sick and it flares really bad. but it's been six years since I first contracted it and in the past four years I've not had a single cold sore. herpes is an extremely common virus that almost everyone has and it also extremely minor.

herpes is the common cold of the SDI world. spread the information.

but yeah most people who have the infection on the cheek already have some tolerance to the infection and it is extremely unlikely that it would move to the lips. though I must recommend not to kiss people with cold sores and do not rub your eyes with spit on your hands because the herpes simplex virus can be spread into your eyeball. (ouch!!)
