Is it normal to hate alcohol?

Alcohol is something I rarely touch anymore, because everytime I drank within the last 10 years, it's made me feel worse, even if I only had 2 or 3 drinks. But, that has nothing to do with low tolerance. I didn't feel like I drank too much, I just overall didn't like the feeling it gave me. It never gave me the real chill relax feeling some drugs (like opiates and benzos) have given me. It didn't give me a happy excited feeling like you see it do to many party animals, it never made me really feel like singin and dancing. It made me feel sluggish in a cranky tired way, it made things and people around me bother me more (that part I guess explains the angry drunk type), and it always soured my stomach and gave me horrible acid, and it hurt how well I slept, not helped. That pleasant chill feeling (that I've gotten from oxycodones or kolonipins) was always missing.

Alcohol didn't make me feel as bad when I was younger, but I still could never enjoy it to the extent many young people seemingly did.

I have read that not everyone's bodies react to alcohol the same way. I guess that's why there are wild party drunks, relaxed sleepy drunks, goofy laughing drunks, angry fight-starting drunks, and then those who hardly seem to change much at all (except eventually ready to crash) after drinking. I more or less learned which type I am, and it turned me off drinking (that sure doesn't happen to everyone).

Feel free to jot down any opinions about this, how normal you think I am about the alcohol, and how it affects any of you.

    • I used to drink rum, and bourbon sometimes when younger

  • I have a friend who is ridiculously anti-alcohol especially for someone who's never tried it. I've never been drunk or had a hangover but some wine is nice sometimes. It's just a shame I get headaches easily so I have to be careful with that stuff. It's fun and relaxing and when you're used to the taste wine is delicious especially dessert wine which is sweeter. I'm also small and on top of that don't drink often so I don't need much to feel an effect.

    • The more you drink the more the headache goes away. I have that same problem when I only drink once a month. If im drinking 2 or 3 times a week it goes away

    • I guess, like I said, alcohol effects everyone differently, it seems that you enjoy the effect. I haven't.

      • Well, you know what you you like, and what you don't like, and you're not willing to give in to peer pressure to make other people happy, and that's a good thing.

  • "It never gave me the real chill relax feeling some drugs (like opiates and benzos) have given me", I can relate to this completely, dude. Alcohol is quite a dirty drug. I still like it, but purple drank is way better, and benzos are way cleaner.

  • Yes, it tastes really gross! But on the positive, maybe you will find it easier to stay healthy and in shape without it!

And if you're at a party, or gathering with alcohol, you can witness everyone else under the influence

If you want to relax, try a strong strong brew of chamomile tea, like brew it for 20 minutes whilst you get ready. That's an easy way to loosen up without alcohol :)

Dandelion tea sounds weird though, like you just pull weeds out of the ground and brew them?

  • Yes, it is normal. My brother has never drunk alcohol in his life.

  • Yes.

  • Only normal when you're failing to get up and be productive for the most parts of your days. I mean, alcohol has helped people produce masterpieces throughout history.

    • Yeah, with some people. Alcohol has also caused alot of people to start fights, and has made people act like the biggest jerkass pricks.

      • Some people can't handle alcohol, but unfortunately they still drink. My sister's ex-fiancé would always end up trying to start fights, and was therefore prone to get kicked out of various establishments due to his drinking habit. I've heard some people in Alcoholics Anonymous describe it as like an allergy the way some people react to alcohol. If alcohol doesn't agree with you there's no point in drinking it.

    • Yes, my liver I'm sure has thanked me for not wanting to drink. I don't think I have too bad a liver, I still have a good appetite, I don't have pains in my stomach or trouble keeping food down, all issues when you have liver trouble

  • There is literally not a thing I like about drinking alcohol.
    The taste
    Being drunk
    The hangovers
    Nothing.

    • That's right. And my reasons for not liking it didn't even include the hangover part. Add that to it, and I have had some bad hangovers too, I do hate it.
