Is it normal to fear for what you will be like in the future?

I have obsessions due to my worrying nature (I've been to the doctor and therapists before but they've never really pinpointed what it is exactly that I've got e.g. depression, GAD, OCD etc.) and my obsessions center around becoming something I don't want to be, if that makes sense. A couple of examples of worries are not believing in my religion (Christianity) which was scary and now my worry is becoming a serial killer when I'm older, this is also scary because I really don't want to hurt anybody. These worries scare me as they pop up out of nowhere and the focus of my worrying frequently changes.

    You should google "intrusive thoughts", because that's what you're experiencing. I'm no doctor but it sounds like you have GAD, because the main symptom of GAD is that you worry all the time.

    It's not OCD unless you feel that you need to do rituals or "compulsive behaviors" to try and lessen the worrying.

    I know how it is because I've been dealing with both for most of my life and have been diagnosed.

    A word of advice - also from personal experience - I wouldn't go on medication unless you have OCD or full-on panic attacks, because there is no medication to treat chronic worrying, unfortunately.

    Therapy may or may not work for you depending on the individual therapist, the type/method of therapy, and your willingness to cooperate and do your "homework" (assignments you will be given to help you see things from different perspectives). Therapy never worked for me because in addition to anxiety disorders, I also have Aspergers, which just adds a whole different layer of obstacles for both therapist and patient.

    Keep seeing some sort of therapist. You definitely have things that you need to talk through.

      I wish I could but I went to the doctor and they basically said that I should wait a while first and seeing as it's not affecting my eating or sleeping or anything like that they don't want to send me to a therapist yet. Is there any way you can see one anyway without a referral from a doctor (I'm in the UK).

        I'm in the U.S. so I've got no idea how the British Healthcare System works, but if you're attending a university I know that they often provide free counseling services.

        Try contacting therapists in your area and see if they can see you. Just Google therapists or psychiatrists followed by your location and see what the protocol is.
