Is it normal to date a gifted student?

I'm in high school. Almost one more year left and I will be graduating. Throughout my time here, I've met so many different and talented people. Among those people, one of them is a gifted student, which happens to be my first crush back in grade 9. We are very close friends now, and I've still been crushing on him. I love him for who he is. He's funny, respectful, and is always there to help a hand in need. I am planning to confess to him this coming Valentine's Day. Problem is: I've always heard/seen the expectation that gifted students have relationships with gifted students, normal students have relationships with normal students, etc. Not only that, but back in grade 9, before me and my crush were very close friends, he had told me that he does not like me more than a friend. Is it normal to date a gifted student if I am a normal student? Anything that can help my situation, please comment. I really like him.

If this dude has already told you that he's not interested in you as anything more then a friend then it would be really stupid for you to confess your undying love for him, unless you're some kind of foolish glutton for punishment.

I wish I could have been a gifted student in my youth, but if I had been I probably would have preferred to date another gifted student. Alas I am but yet another mediocre student with a higher than average intelligence; I fit firmly into the mold of an underachiever.

I really don't see how him being different would alter anything in your relationship. It's more about whether he's interested in you. Good luck tho. Shoot your shot; you may miss, you may land... whatever happens happens.
