Is it normal to close the curtains during daylight?

I know I'm not the only one, but nobody cares what I have an aversion to, e.g. natural light. I put my sunglasses on when going out and spend a tremendous amount of time indoors, and when the sun is piercing through the window, I close the curtains (I saw an Englishman do this in some mystery movie). Is that normal?
