Is it normal to chug down 5 litres of water in a few minutes?

The limit I can chug down is 5 litres of water, my body can handle it but people think I am a weirdo for doing that and I do this almost everyday even though I know I am overhydrating myself as well as my friends finding it weird that I do this.

I want to ask you guys if any of this that I do is normal?

It's not only weird, it's dangerous.

Drinking a lot of water in a short period can mess up the electrolyte balance in your blood so much that your brain swells, your heartbeat slows and your blood pressure is screwed up. If you happen to drink more water than your body can get rid of fast enough to quickly restore the correct electrolyte balance, then your brain can swell to the point where the veins draining blood from it are pinched shut, but the heart keeps pumping blood into your brain.

This is called cerebral edema, and the result is seizures, brain damage, coma or death.

If you like the idea of dying or you believe it would be cool to have permanent brain damage, then carry on showing off by chugging multiple litres of water, brah.

If you think that doesn't actually sound all that great, then find some other way to make people pay attention to you.

You can overdose on water and that is exactly how you do it

I was dared to drink a whole jug of water in 5 minutes at school. I managed almost all of it then ended up puking in the corridor.

    NEVER again!

I imagine the OP does it just because "LOOK AT MEEEEE!"

Water intoxication is A Thing, but it's the result of the brain being squished inside the skull as I described in my reply, so the hangover could last a lifetime.

      • I don't particularly do it for attention, my intent of asking this was to ask if I'm normal but seeing that I've seen your comment Boojum. I'll try and drink appropriate amounts of water. I also do not ask it for the sake of asking I also asked it because it became somewhat of a habit and I hope you begin to understand. I guess now its time that I stop or that can happen, I've also realised that brain damage is no joke or fucking up my blood pressure and other bad things that can happen.

This post reminds me of a news story I read about a while back:

    https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/drank-too-much-water-woman-dies/article1069137/

Drinking too much water is probably not a good idea.

That is one of the easiest ways to die.

    So, no.

500ml (5dl) of water per hour is the limit anyways.

As Boojum stated, it can be dangerous. Too much water can even kill you. Read this article. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318619#dangers
