Is it normal to be bothered by saving money?

I've had this problem since I started working at 13. My average pay back then was about $130 a week, and it was awesome for me then. But even back then I had the spending problem. I took the week's pay and went home, and before I knew it I had spent everything. On average the pay never lasted more than two days in my hands. I tried saving it, but the idea of saving money makes my brain itch and I hate it. I've tried to give it to other people to keep the savings away from me, but I always end up begging them to have it back because I hate the idea of that money just sitting there so much. What's wrong with me?

  • Nothing is wrong with you. It's very difficult to save money. We are surrounded by temptation and companies spend billions of dollars on marketing designed to make you part with your money. As you get older you realise that you can no longer tolerate living week to week like that and that life is easier if you have a buffer. You won't ever get rich from working and saving but you can build a better quality of life. I didn't start saving till I was 40. You also realise how empty and unsatisfying buying stuff is and how much it weighs you down when you have too many things.

I agree with this comment 100% It may be normal for a young guy your age but it's not a good habit to develop. Work on your self control mate!

Thank you guys! I know it's a bad habit to have, and I do realize that buying things like that is empty but really it's all that calms the itch in my head.

I grew up with people like you. Ive always been good with money but my friends would always be begging me for shit. They wanted me to buy them food and shit. These people had jobs too and they NEVER had money. When they did they would buy all the beer for a night and food and then when they were broke the next day theyd beg for shit again and be like "but i bought the beer last night". God I want to punch the OP in the face right now.

Thanks for answering man, and if I could let you strike me I would for real. I never ask my friend for money it makes me feel horrible. I've always been able to keep the money I need for rent and the important stuff, but I was just asking if it was normal to hate saving the money.
