Is it normal to be afraid of rejecting people?

It just feels awkward and uncomfortable. I block on Facebook and ignore. They tried a few years ago and then again recently. I never implied any interest and consistently ignore. At work I’m friendly and professional. Thankfully the person isn’t on my shift but if I do overtime I’ll see em.

It’s like I’m being forced to acknowledge confront and deal with this cringey uncomfortable thing. Even without a direct rejection isn’t it obvious?

I used to be afraid of rejecting people, but then realised
"why should I care? People are replaceable. They'll get over me in a week."
    Then it became easy.

I don't care much about rejection.
If it's someone I hardly know I just stop talking to them. Not my problem.
If it's someone I know well I tell them straight up i'm not interested, if they don't get it I have no problem blocking.
