Is it normal to “snap selfies” with your smart phone as a habit?

Just wondering, I’ve seen a few people do this in public before? Where they’ll like take out their cell phone camera just out of nowhere and point the camera at them and start snapping cell phone pictures? If you witnessed me doing this what would you say? Like maybe say “I’m not a TV Show Pal, I’m a real person, you can put the camera away?” Basically, is it normal to make a habit out of taking cell phone pictures out in public?
