Is it normal that i've never drank coffee?

I'm 18 years old and I've never really drank coffee in my entire life. I've eaten coffee-flavored chocolates and I think I had a cup or two of grain coffee which I've hated. The one time I've tried coffee was a year ago I think, I had one sip of it and then that was it, it was just too watery and I found it disgusting because I always expected coffee to be thick (later I found out it's not normal for coffee to be watery so I don't know anymore). Other than that, I've never had coffee in my mouth. I always told myself I was too young for coffee because it's technically a drug, but I never decided on an age where it would be okay for me to drink it, so now I'm just here at 18 thinking "damn, I'm definitely old enough to drink coffee now, when did this happen?" Still, I don't really want to try it because I'm scared of being addicted, seeing as most of the people I know can't go for a day without a coffee while I've never had one and I'm doing just fine. So I just wanna ask if it's normal.

Sure, normal. If you don't have an interest, don't drink it. I don't really think it tastes that good and am amazed what some people will pay for coffee at places like Starbucks. The stuff is dirt cheap to make. If you want caffeine, there are other ways to get it.

I had never had coffee until I was 30. It's weird to me that kids nowadays (as young as 9 year-old students of mine) are allowed to drink it.

  • This is normal. I guess it would be strange if you'd never tried it, but you have, and you have your reasons for not drinking it.

Btw, people who're addicted to coffee are addicted to the caffeine in coffee. The same thing can happen with energy drinks and certain sodas.

I just like the taste of black coffee, so I usually drink decaf.

coffee gets expensive-- unless you have an at-home coffee maker, you can spend over 100$ a month easily if you buy it every day. i would say that if you start drinking coffee, and you do get dependent on it, it will make your days without coffee significantly worse and tough to get through.. i would avoid it and maybe only drink it, like an espresso or something, when you really need that pick me up for maybe a college paper you procrastinated on that you have to stay up all night for.. i dont think you need it in your life though.

  • I’m super picky on my coffee just to show it’s always gotta be iced and something vanilla and usually with extra cream and extra liquid sugar.
The addiction part can be controlled just don’t drink a lot of it and every single day. I’m not much of a fan myself and drink maybe a cup of it but mainly just for the caffine and not often. If I had a lot I get kinda to jittery. I wish I liked the taste a little more maybe it’d give me a woken up feeling maybe not to much to the point I rely on it to wake me up and need to have it. But for trying it out the first time go with what you’d think you like if you don’t like hot drinks go with iced and whatever flavoring idk how people drink black, such monsters.

You can drink whatever you like. You're not missing much though, coffee makes me anxious and jittery.

    • Coffee, at least the caffeinated kind, messes me up too.

A while ago I had about 10 oz. of it, and got the symptoms you mentioned, along with brief heart palpitations and cold sweats.
