Seems like OCD. Not normal, but many have it.

I like the number 4 too, but it sounds like you're taking it a bit too far.

I think it's a sign of need for structure and consistency for a lot of people, or a need for intellectual stimulation.

I have very similar issues. I often think of sentences in my head and visualize the letters. I will count the letters and the last letter will have to end as a set of 3. If it doesn't, I will alter the sentence to have the same meaning but where the last letter is the 3rd of a set of 3.

For example, if I think to myself, "I am so hungry", I-a-m are 1,2,3...s-o-h are 1,2,3...u-n-g are 1,2,3...r,y are 1,2. In this case, I would add "it hurts" to the sentence to read, "I am so hungry it hurts". R-y-i are now 1,2,3...t-h-u are 1,2,3...and r-t-s are 1,2,3.

Growing up, when my mom would drive I would count between highway road dashes and end on 10s. As well, I would count to 10s between stationary objects like rest stop signs, mile markers, and City signs. Sometimes, I would count between shadows from large trees if I were walking or bicycling.

I'm so used to it I didn't even realize it's strange til I wrote all this.
