Is it normal that i fear the dark?

I can't sleep in the dark, but heart rate increases etc unless I have my phone on or a dim-ish light on. The only situations where I can sleep is if there is somebody that is in the room with me. Almost the only time I can sleep in the dark is when I fall asleep from exhaustion (which isn't good). This may be normal for a kid but I'm 13 I don't think this is normal and need a way to get over it. I've been thinking for a long time I may have nyctophobia (fear of the dark) but a very light one.

It's normal but some people think it is childish. I think it's a throw back to out distant ancestors being wary of things in the dark that may be violent. Try a night light.

i believe it's something everybody has ((fear of the dark)) but not everybody CAN get over it..

it's also different from a human to another, cuz everybody has a different belief, imagination and memories.

I've always had a fear of the dark and need a dim light to sleep, but don't need someone with me.

    • I dont need someone with me, rather one or the other. Dim light or person in room with me.

do you really think that a person in the same room as you would be able to save or protect you if a ghost decided to attack you?

it's true.. but when someone is with you in the same room .. you can somehow feel ok if the other person isn't afraid..
but if that person sleeps you feel afraid again, cuz you know you can't talk to him or see how he is awake and not afraid..

It's a known fact ghosts can't get you if you are under the covers with a teddy bear.
