Is it normal that i don't think people in their 60s are elderly?

They are middle aged. and 70s is only a little bit old, but not elderly. I'm only 30 btw. I felt that way when I was younger, too.

50 years ago, people in their 60s were decrepit. Thanks to antioxidants, optimal cardio exercise, and better medications (including viagra), today's 60 year olds look better, think quicker, have more energy, and better muscle tone. This means they party, drink, and fuck like they used to in college. For most people, old age starts in the mid 70's, depending on their heredity, and general health habits.

I agree, my dad is 61 and I don't think he is an old geezer. He's middle aged. He has his wits, he's active, can work and do stuff around the house, still feels in touch with today's world and can drive even more exuberantly than me (amazingly)

Seriously, I decided to mess with my dad while driving from the apartment to the house in the mountains one time. I'd overtake him and do stupid slidey stuff in the corners, floor it in tunnels, floor it at lights, etc. After about 10 minutes my dad decided to teach me a lesson in cornering speed and precision... and I got my ass handed to me by a 61 year old man, with an artificial heart valve, in a VW Tiguan with half of the horsepower I got. As my mom was already at the house and couldn't tell either of us how to drive, we had a little race on a section of road we both know and I lost.

My dad kept that damn thing on the limit. I know how to get the ass out and be all showy, be mostly speedy through corners without wheelspin when I want to, but he knows how to keep a vehicle on the limit.

When we arrived at the house, he laughed and said "What's the matter, I thought you had a 400-whatever hp V8?"
I answered I had DPF issues and the car ran rough (even if getting rid of the DPFs was the first thing I did to make the car run right XD)
He chuckled and then said I'm in charge of making sure his beer glass is full tonight for being a smartass.
I was more than ok with that.

So no, my dad ain't elderly yet. He is just middle aged, even if he still thinks he is in his early 30s deep inside...

Personally, I wouldn't put an age on it. If someone is 63 and they have age-related disabilities, I would consider them elderly. However, if someone is 72 and in good health, I'd say that they're an older person but not 'elderly' per say. I think 'elderly' depends more on one's personal circumstances than a chronological figure.

My great-grandfather died of a stroke in his early fifties.

It's not middle aged considering the average life span of humans currently. Some of course might not appear elderly but they are.

If you regard people aged 60 as middle aged, does that mean you expect them to live to 120?

Stupid label anyway, like elderly or senior: I'm 72 and the term is OLD.

Yeah, probably. I'd be interested to know if there's anyone older on here. I think TheGypsySailor was about the same age, but unfortunately he's long gone.

          Long gone as in dead?
