Is it normal that i am obsessed with losing sleep

Years ago I developed a habit of intentionally losing sleep. I will do anything to lose sleep, chug caffeine, keep the lights on, stay on electronics, etc. I go on no sleep streaks to satisfy my habit (my record is almost five days of being continuously awake). It only recently became an extremely serious worry to me when I considered illegally ordering narcolepsy treatment drugs. This is not like me at all; I am a very goody-two shoes type person. I am aware I need to stop this habit as soon as possible, that is obvious. But does this make me a broken or abnormal person?

this is dangerous. The body needs adequete sleep to properly function. Its pretty much like starving yourself. I heard that if you can resist a habit for 28 days you can resist it for life, so start changing things. this is not healthy at all.

You do know that a lack of restful sleep can age a person quicker, right?

I'm quite young, actually. So i'm not sure that's at the top of my list of worries but i'll remember that.

I work 2 jobs Monday-friday get on average 5-6 hours of sleep. Gotta say its been added to list of worries. Like most humans I want to stay youthful and attractive. But damn money though. Cutting my hours back by alot in 2 months. Inly q little bit till then. A compromise with the boss.

Sleep is so important. The lack of has really had an effect on me

Interesting....it's "abnormal" (using your words) as sleep is a necessary function for optimal health. It's almost like you have insomnia but people suffering from insomnia have a desire to sleep and can't. Mind if I ask how old you are?...and around what age did you develop this habit? When you do sleep, how do you feel when you wake up? Did something in your past related to sleep, possibly a negative experience, bring this about?

I am nineteen years old and I started this habit at around fourteen. The only negative experience I can think of is that I used to pretend to be sleeping every morning so that I didn't have to face my father.

Why cause yourself the extra pain of being tired all the time? It takes me 3-5 hours to get to sleep every night and I’m obsessed with not losing sleep. I’ve tried everything to get to sleep on time.

Because it is a habit, and I am obsessed.
