Is it normal; over-emotional whilst pregnant.

My best friend is 5 months pregnant and I'm a little worried as her emotions are extremely up and down, is this normal? I was under the impression it was normal, I don't mean this to sound horrible but she can be quite a depressing person anyway but now she's pregnant she is really bad- she's just spent this week crying.
She's a very closed person and it takes a lot for her to talk about anything, I'm trying really hard to talk to her at the moment and I'm getting there but it's difficult.
Because I'm under the impression it's fairly normal for a pregnant lady to feel like this I've been telling her not to worry, it's normal, it will be okay bla bla bla but should I be doing this? Is a bit too extreme? I'm brilliant at talking to people and giving advice but is this out of my depth and should she be seeking professional help? Or shall I just carry being there for her and hope it's enough? Thank you fellow IINers!

Hormones can make you a totally different person. It's normal. Pregnancy makes your hormones bounce off the fucking wall.

A "normal" pregnancy doesn't really exist. You sound like a good friend. You should look into the benefits of having a doula. Doulas are the women who provide non-medical support to mothers during pregnancy. They are the midwives counterpart. A lot of fathers have been placed into this role but there is something about the female connection that is very beneficial to both parents.
