Is it normal my pets death made me very depressed?

My budgie died two days ago, I just found him laying there on the bottom of his cage. He's lived with me for around three years, I know usually people will feel sad and just move on but to me it's like my own baby died.

I've been crying all day and even mentioning him is making me cry right now. I loved him so much, I never expected this to happen especially since he was only around 3 years old. I hate my life and if there is a god out there it's a sadistic cunt of a god and I hate him or whatever thought this was okay. I feel like life is worthless because as you go on in life more and more things get taken from you. The only reason I haven't tried to hang myself is because I have another bird to care for as well as my family because they rely on me.

I hate myself and I'm a terrible person and I shouldn't live because I never deserved to.

100% normal. Animals become your family. When my dog dies, I know I'm going to cry my eyes out. She's a huge part of my life and she goes almost everywhere with me. I can't even imagine her being gone... It would just be weird.

  • Birds have a lot of history of being surprising with their health, they almost never show signs. I've been an active part of PETA for a while now and see these cases very often. As radical as PETA can get, we rarely have the ability to blame an owner for avian death. Humans just don't have the ability to recognize signs, if signs are even given, avian health is very susceptible to dramatic out of the blue changes. I would highly suggest you get your second bird checked by a avian specialist to make sure it wasn't a virus going around.

Life sucks and then you die. It's just how it is. But live on and live strong for your second companion and your family too. But it is life, you know it, and your animals know it too. Death can create unity, and that's what should happen. Stick around.

You're in the healthy and normal process of mourning. The fact you even wrote this out is a very good step towards recovery. I'm sorry for your loss, but you will end up a stronger person after this.

Pets become part of the family so it sucks when you lose them. And blaming God for your crappy life is a normal thing to do. But your pet didn't die because God hates you. Pets just don't live very long.

And not get all deep here but your life is gonna suck for as long as you want it to. Wanna change that? Work on putting the negative thoughts to the back of your mind instead of the front. Cut out the negative people and destructive behavior. I don't know you but the negative people I do know keep themselves there.

Turn to that God you hate. You might be surprised how your life turns around. Good luck.
