Is it normal for people to call my name and smile?

If its people from my year I smile and say hello back, but it is kinda different when girls call my name I start to blush and say hey. This feels weird and somewhat new to me.

Can this be regarded as normal?

      Maybe they meant to distinguish cisgender women (biologically female) but didnt know the term?
